    Tbh, I really do like the new 737 Max retrofit on United. The economy IFE screens remind me of the ones on Delta and the First Class ones remind me of the ones in United Polaris kind of. Recently went to Cancun on United and I’m going to be honest, I had a really good experience with them a few days ago when I was coming home to MSP. Due to multiple delays and cancellations in Houston a few days ago, a lot of people were displaced and had no place to stay. United ended up giving me lounge access in Houston and Denver, three $20 meal vouchers, an amenity kit, 2 Lyft Lux Black rides to and from the airport and a 5 star hotel for me to stay at just because I booked business class.

    I was on a 737-900ER of United from Tampa to San Francisco back in April of 2022, I had the similar interior and we had the Panasonic WiFi on our aircraft. Didn’t have the new interior though as ours was from September of 2009.

      Technically, none of their 737s have Panasonic. United has 3 types of wifi: Viasat (found on all MAXes, few A319s, planned as part of NEXT for 737NG and ex-CO 757-300s), Panasonic (found on ex-ATA 757-300s, most A319s, all A320s, all 757-200s and widebodies, will be on those planes for years to come), and Thales (all unretrofiited 737NGs, unretrofitted ex-CO 757-300s, will be replaced by Viasat as part of NEXT for those planes). Viasat is fast, Panasonic is slow but reliable, Thales is slow and unreliable.

    That IFE was used on Jetblue until a few years ago.

      Still is on the E190s. At least those have 34 inches of legroom!

    Travelog, I (clears throat)-I have a confession to make.
    I actually prefer the BYOD model over regular IFE. And I hate it when I need to hold my phone or lay it on the tray table (instead of placing it on the dedicated device holder).
    I might also add how the screens make seats thicker, which usually means less personal space. You see this when comparing AA’s “Project Oasis” interiors with, say, DL’s interiors. AA’s are definitely more spacious (except on the 737s).
    But to each their own, I guess.
    Also: No clunky IFE boxes when there aren’t any screens, which is a plus.

      I actually agree strongly. I prefer byod

    FYI United is retrofitting the domestic 777-200's. When the PW's were grounded, UA retrofitted an extra 3 777's with AVOD in every seat. Given though, since then there haven't been any retrofits, but I would assume its due to how much capacity loss is at stake when a Dom 777 is taken out of service.

      I hope you are right but that’s not my impression. It’s not on their current tracker as far as I am aware, and other material available days that they aren’t. But hopefully I’m mistaken!

    I'm sure United is actually prioritizing new planes. The reason why that's slow is the same reason why all other Boeing customers are not taking new planes as fast. Boeing is battling with production issues and Airbus has an insane backlog, which translates to an insane waiting time. United faces 2 bottlenecks: one at Panasonic and one at Boeing, and since both are external of United, there is nothing United can do no matter how hard they try. To sum it up, United is introducing NEXT as fast as these bottlenecks would allow.

      Yep, ideally I would have re-edited this to include what United said in their most recent financial report about the delays to the refits, but just touched down in ORD about 10 minutes ago…

    On the Polaris end, the Covid restrictions and supply issues from Safran have come to a close, so United could finally retrofit widebodies faster than before. It is obvious that the critics that demand a consistent hard product has been in United's face a lot more than any other type of critic because since United is retrofitting more planes at a time, this means United is now short on planes to fly on routes such as EWR-HNL.

    I was on a couple of these last winter. Very dated and the IFE didn't work. The retrofits can't come soon enough.

    what are your thoughts of hypothetical slowdowns in NEXT caused by the latest MAX9 grounding? would you blame United for that?

    • @Travelog
      @Travelog  10 месяцев назад

      Well I’d blame them for buying the MAX to begin with…
      I actually got to fly United NEXT on a random flight a few months ago (video coming in a few months) and it was pretty great. I will be incredibly positive. I just wish they actually delivered on what they promise, or don’t over promise for once…

    Can you use Bluetooth for the screens or only plug in earphones?

    • @Travelog
      @Travelog  8 месяцев назад

      The old screens, plug in only. I fortunately finally got to fly the new United interior (video in a few weeks) and that does have Bluetooth pairing.

      @@Travelog thanks for the update. I’m flying on one tomorrow but not sure if it will be really old model.

      And you won’t know. Check-in in the app said no screens. Boarded the plane. Literally only realized it was the new interior when I turned into my row to sit down.

    3:02 As you may know United has updated their safety video this year, I flew on another 737-800 with this interior down to PVR last month, they presented the old safety video with BTS parts of the new safety video on their DirecTV: ruclips.net/video/kSaIBNi_1pE/видео.html

    I prefer BYOD provided there is reliable power. Delta designed and produced its own IFE and it's unreliable. Flight after flight, there are so many issues that I think someone should get fired over the new IFE. Our own devices are far superior and who doesn't carry a phone or tablet these days...

    I have half a million miles on United. That is hands down their worst interior. It’s the tightest in economy, the DTV sucks, and the seatbacks are hard

      I disagree. That title would be a tie between their A320s and their 777-200 Domestic
