The first episode where Ash and Team Rocket actually team up!
Also, it's a great example of the Pokemon Anime calling back to the games, with the introduction of the Poke Flute to the series!
I'm surprised the water didn't just burst right out as Snorlax stood up
In the original episode, (literally in the last 2 min, AFTER Snorlax gets up) they reveal that Snorlax was not the cause of the blockage, but rather a bunch of vines. However, Snorlax eats vines, so waking up Snorlax ultimately had the same effect anyway as he gets up, eats them all, and clears the blockage.
When abridging, I often have to make cuts like this which don't really affect the plot. At the end of the day, waking up Snorlax still had the intended effect, so the surprise reveal didn't really serve a purpose outside of shifting blame away from Snorlax himself.

Yeah… too bad the town’s probably doomed for the year. The river flowing again doesn’t fix the crops that turned to dust, and there’s no more food in the town. They either need to move or all die.
Still, it was nice seeing our heroes teaming up with our other heroes. Oh, you thought Team Rocket was evil? They’ve never actually stolen a Pokémon (successfully).
What's worse is that in the original episode, the Mayor explains the river only dried up 2 weeks ago?
It would certainly explain why the crops are dead, but how on earth did they run out of food so fast? Shouldn't they still have stores from the last harvest?
Also, Brock asks the Mayor why nobody ever bothered to check upstream, but the Mayor only says that they "don't dare go there," and never explains why they don't dare.
Doesn't Team Rocket like, have a pokeball or something? While the pokeball is still shaking they can just throw it away and even if the snorlax gets out the river would flow again
I had to cut it for time, but both Team Rocket and Ash actually do try this strategy and the pokeball just bounces off Snorlax's fat.
It's never explained why this doesn't work, but it's implied to be because Snorlax had already been captured by the hippie, and so already had a trainer.
Something tells me that wasn't the tone of voice Poke Flute guy had in the original Japanese.
