We did the same in 2023 Dave, switched from a Coachman VIP 520/4 caravan to a Transit Mk8 XLWB campervan and we're absolutely loving it!! Since switching to a campervan we've toured Europe 4 times, including one trip to Norway....it's so much easier having access to Aires and even wild camping, (especially in Norway) that's all possible in an off-grid campervan 😀 I don't think we will ever go back to caravaning.
Hi Stuart, We got into caravanning when the kids were young and it has been a great twenty odd years. But it's been just the two of us for the past seven years or so and like you we want to explore further afield. A trip back to Sweden is definitely on our list and I think with the new van it will be easier to extend into Norway which I haven't visited since I was a child. Glad you liked the video, more on the way. Dave
Congratulations Dave, interestingly we came from a similar campervan to caravan. Adria, a good choice. For road trips like Sweden, campervans are ideal, in 2021 we spent 4.5 weeks in the Outer Hebrides/Skye. Look forward to your new adventures👍
Thank you Stewart. The change has certainly filled us with a new sense for adventure, itching to get out in the new van. Hopefully will do a short overnight stay in late January and then our first proper trip is South West Scotland around Easter time.
Really interesting to follow. We’ve just bought our first Motorhome for very similar reasons, we both want to travel more, we’re a bit older than you and my husband was finding the caravan setup hard work. Primarily though it is because we want the ease of travelling, we have a dog so needed the space plus occasional grandchildren along for the ride.
Hi Sandra, Sounds like we shall be learning together :-) I agree whilst I'm not struggling yet, as I've got on in years I've found myself less inclined to put the full awning up. Three stop holidays have given way to two stops and so on. Hopefully the Adria will give us a new lease on touring life. Hope all goes well for you in your motorhome. Dave
Nice Adria. I wanted a campervan but I hired one for a week first and struggled with the reduced floor area with the dogs. Also, like you mentioned, the noise whilst driving was really surprising and I found it pretty stressy. I'm sure a caravan is just as bad but the benefit is you can't hear it. You can probably sort that out with the Adria though, good quality vans. Look forward to seeing how you get on with it.
Thanks Andy. It's just me and Deb so floor space less of an issue. Though you do kind of get that air travel vibe trying to pass each other, which I imagine could get interesting with dogs in the van 🤣. Noise is less now we have arranged our gear better. That first trip to Walton we had stuff just chucked in the garage. Expect videos on extreme cupboard and garage organisation soon! (Which could also be useful for caravans.)
Many congratulations on your camperrvan... a good choice! I certainly intend to stay a subscriber as I agree there are many crossovers between Caravans, Campers and Motorhomes despite what some say. We have an Eriba 535GT towed by a VW Multivan so a slightly unusual but in our opinion, nimble and flexible unit but of course do miss out on the European Aires Keep the great content coming! Thanks Brian
Thank you, more content certainly on the way. So hope you enjoy it. That's certainly a different and pretty cool combination you've got. Always good to see interesting outfits on the road and on site. Dave
Lovely update and well done. Really chuffed for you both and cannot wait to follow your new adventures.
Take care.
Dan.
Thanks Dan that means a lot.
