Growing up in the 90's, you would see a wonder goal maybe 5-10 times a season. Football was still great and the players were skillful, but it was more direct and players took less chances. I still remember people thinking they had seen a miracle when Beckham score against Wimbledon from the halfway line. Now you see around 10-20 wonder goals every month and I don't think people appreciate them as much anymore when you see them so often. It's incredible.
I think it has to do with smaller leagues around the world having a spot light finally. I remember watching Santos and Fluminense, River Plate vs Boca Juniors, etc around 3am in the morning as a kid, and honestly it was my favorite football. Also, Al-Ahly vs Zamalek in Egypt was beautiful too.
No the difference Is the access to view these games. How could you possibly see these goals before? There was no one making these videos taking goals from all over the planet into one video. These goals always happened just you didnt know

Fullbacks were more defensively oriented and you had defensive midfielders like Keane , Viera , Makelele etc ... Quality of players (bar Messi and Ronaldo ) has downgraded and it's now much easier to score 30+ goals in PL and all other big leagues
