Whenever there’s a Harry Potter reference in anything I get super excited. Even when someone says the word “Always” in a non-Harry potter related sentence.
Great suggestions. :) When I was younger, I found Trudi Canavan's The Black Magician trilogy a really interesting and quite different take on magic to Harry Potter. It follows the journey of a girl entering a school of magic, but treats magic differently enough for it not to feel like a rehash of the themes of Harry Potter. She has written more books in the same world recently and I have to say I still really enjoy them! Like Harry Potter they definitely stand the test of time as their reader grows into an adult. :)
So happy you mentioned one of my all time favourite books, Ursula K LeGuin’s A Wizard of Earthsea. I have read and reread (and rebought) that novel countless times. I have happily recommended this book to other readers. Just so satisfyingly done.
I was in 6th grade when the first one came out. I've never found any books or any author that can write the way she did how descriptive she wrote. Pure genius
You've included some of my favourites from when I was just moving on from Harry Potter when I was 11. Charlie Bone was brilliant, and I so want to read it again!
This is just perfect for my 11 year old daughter for whom life is not the same since she finished the Harry Potters!!! Again and again and again! Thanks so mucch for this!
A Tale of Magic by Chris Colfer is another book with some similarities to Harry Potter. The main character finds out she's a fairy (a "good" magic user) and goes to a school where fairies learn to control their powers. Her mentor is basically a combination of Dumbledore and Voldemort.
I am trying to find books which can motivate me to study more. I always liked studying after reading hermonie's character in hp series. I wish I could find more such magical books, which have libraries, study ambitious characters etc.
Harry potter→😍 Percy jackson→☹️ Bertimaeus→☹️ Darren Shan→☹️ Ialways try read books without prejudice,but a book like「harry potter」never appear. Iam【 harry potter addict】….
Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow and Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow. "Morrigan Crow is cursed. Having been born on Eventide, the unluckiest day for any child to be born, she's blamed for all local misfortunes, from hailstorms to heart attacks--and, worst of all, the curse means that Morrigan is doomed to die at midnight on her eleventh birthday. But as Morrigan awaits her fate, a strange and remarkable man named Jupiter North appears. Chased by black-smoke hounds and shadowy hunters on horseback, he whisks her away into the safety of a secret, magical city called Nevermoor."
Keeper of the lost cities is a great one very similar to Harry Potter in many ways but also different. Also I have read Charlie Bone and that is a great one!
I love the idea of this video! I have just got Carry on by Rainbow Rowell and am really excited about it. I love BookTube so much! I get so many amazing reading suggestions from it and hope I give others good suggestions in my videos 😊📚
I found the Chronicles of Narnia helped fill the obsessive gap after Harry Potter, and as an adult I've loved The Magicians, and The Name of the Wind :)
If you like harry potter, you should read SCARLETT LOST IN THE FIVE LANDS by Rajendra Sarilla. It has magic school, dragons, war scenes, and powerful female characters.
I would recommend the fantasy sagas by Tamora Pierce. I loved them, and especially for young girls, the strong female characters they feature are inspiring. Thank you for the lovely video.
Not on the magical theme but still just as good as Harry Potter in that I got lost in the world, I thought Ready Player One was a fantastic read! Def recommend!
If you love Harry potter, you should totally read A tale of magic by chris colfer! It's quite similar, about a young girl who discovers she has magical powers and goes to a magic school, and it is so good I read the whole trilogy in 3 days! It's also quite modern compared to harry potter (the books came out from 2019-2021) and has some lgbt characters.
Aha I'm not actually sure, it was a gift. It changes colour though. Starts off black and when filled with hot liquid the picture appears. That might help you find it - Jean
Well I really enjoyed the Laura series which is kinda the german Harry Potter although it's actually really different and doesn't feature wizards. However I don't know if it has a good translation.
I found Isobelle Carmody's series which I think starts with Obernewtn (over-new-ton with a b in over). It's a bit darker like the final HP books. There's a cat like Crookshanks who mind-talks to the main character. People began to be born with "skills" after a nuclear holocaust years ago and they are not often not accepted by people without skills. Also has some LGBTQ+ characters.

A Pinch of Magic A Sprinkle of Sorcery A Tangle of Spells By Michelle Harrison This wonderful series is about 3 sisters, a family curse, and a pinch of magic
Equal rites seems like the spark for j.k. R. Hail terry Pritchett. Thanks for the vid your the sweetest. Another book that could go in your list. I.m.o. Is John bellairs a house with a clock in its walls. Thanks.

I have been told a lot of good things about Trudi Canavan, I need to check her out, especially whilst I'm in the mood for some magical education :).

As a young girl I loved the worst witch by Jill Murphy I had it on cassette tape read by Miriam Margoyles
Ah I was also a fan of the Worst Witch, such a good suggestion! - Jean
Your voice is very pleasant to my ears that is very important when making videos in my opinion
This is just perfect for my 11 year old daughter for whom life is not the same since she finished the Harry Potters!!! Again and again and again! Thanks so mucch for this!
Wonderful! I hope she enjoys these ^_^ I know how she felt.
The Charlie Bone series is hands down my favorite after Harry Potter. I finished both series in a week and I loved each of them.

I love the Nevermoor series. 😍😍
I love nevermore series too . Waiting for the 4 th book !
I loved the Charlie Bone series growing up! I'm surprised it was never made into films and didn't become more popular after Harry Potter.
Ooh a film would have been awesome of Charlie Bone, if they'd done it well, not like the atrocity that was the adaptation of Eragon - Jean
Pan Macmillan So true! Or like the Percy Jackson movies! Lol
Keeper of the lost cities is a great one very similar to Harry Potter in many ways but also different. Also I have read Charlie Bone and that is a great one!
Ooh thanks for another recommendation - hadn't heard of that one!

I found the Chronicles of Narnia helped fill the obsessive gap after Harry Potter, and as an adult I've loved The Magicians, and The Name of the Wind :)
Yes, Chronicles of Narnia definitely took a similar place in my heart as a child ^_^ thanks for the other recommendations! - Jean
Everyone loves narnia and I might just be insane but I can’t read it for more than half an hour without getting bored
If you like harry potter, you should read SCARLETT LOST IN THE FIVE LANDS by Rajendra Sarilla. It has magic school, dragons, war scenes, and powerful female characters.
