I was confused for a sec because my accent makes the words "Mass" and "Grass" rhyme completely so I completely missed that when I read it for the first time.
thankyou sir this is very helpful! could you say that the ‘strangers features’ and ‘half formed ghost’ are symbolic of himself, and how perhaps the guilt of seeing death and not helping has led him to not recognise himself from his immunity to feeling pain.
you didn't use "fields which don't explode beneath running children in a nightmares heat"? I have always found this to be the most powerful line in the poem.
@@miarose5340 its relating to a picture in instanbul, its a very famous picture of these children running away from war. children represent innocence and duffy is emphasising that this innocence is taken away from them.
@@diya4914 Sorry, but I think the imagery is referring to "the Napalm Girl", a powerful picture of children running from acid in Vietnam, not Istanbul.
Could you say that this poem has a cyclical structure as Duffy begins and ends with a varying Trochaic and Iambic rhythm which unsettles the reader and shows the continuously unsettling nature of war?
He Mr Salles I have a question should I use the fosse way in every paragraph or should my whole essay be the fosse way it self, what I mean by this is should I try to get all the fosse way techniques in to one paragraph and repeat, or should my first paragraph be about the opening then the next should be about the form and so on...?
I love the idea of the Trochaic and Iambic, however when looking at the first selected quotation and then the second one, you can see that the order of the rhymes comes changes, reflecting wars rapid, hectic ever-changing atmosphere??…
If i were to write ab essay on war photographer should I include this idea? 'Dark rooms' were generally 'dark' -except for a red light; pictures hung onto the wall to dry and chemicals scattered everywhere. Through the intoxicating setting of the 'dark room' as well as the intoxicated structure of the poem; Duffy mirrors the troubled state the photographer is massed with.
No, you are approaching it as a piece of creative writing. She doesn't give us any images of intoxication, and you can't assume that from 'dark room'. You can only work with quotations. Also, the photographs were always hung on a line, so the air could get to them - they would be pegged. The room was pitch black, as any trace of light would overexpose the negatives. The red light was on a different spectrum.

What does the 's' sound in "spools of suffering set out" mimic?
Maybe the 's' sounds mimic the sound of the shutters of the camera as they 'snap' to take the photos/burst of photos.
