So true. Bike does not know how old the rider is. No one is too old to do ride an adventure motorcycle. It's all in the mindset you have.
Between the ears for sure
At 74 my favourite places to ride are back gravel roads . Roads that are not maintained for year around use & Logging roads etc. I miss my old 04 KLR & was hoping to find a newer model when I found a KLX which I must admit has been fun to explore with, but I miss the comfort & wind protection of the KLR on open paved roads. My older brother is 78 & still rides regularly. Just ride within your abilities. As you age you need to adjust.
Very good points Bill and I hope to be arriving many many many more years
check out a versys 300 or CB500x
@@billcope7434yes the x300 is definitely on my list to check out this yr. Thanks
59 years old here too. Just purchased my third KLR 650. Got the new short version. Love it. Also ride a 17’ BMW RT. Cheers
Congratulations is always nice to have two different bikes for two different reasons. Enjoy the rides.
I'm 64 and have a 2023 klr 650s I ride all the back roads around here and the dirt roads, forest roads I love it
I previously owned an Africa Twin but I found it a little tall and heavy for off road use so after a couple of years, I sold it. Then I bought a Himalayan and I owned this for three years and I got my fill of single track. Recently I bought a KLR 650S which suits me fine. I'm 5'4" and 70 years old. I will be sticking to gravel and easy single track.
Nice and the S did not come out yet when I bought this. I am much taller at 6’3” but knew it would be tough for shorter riders
Same age as yourself and just returned to riding. Bought the Yamaha T7 and set reachable goals with each ride and don’t ever ride above my abilities. I think age brings wisdom and that can help offset our slower reaction time by avoiding certain situations. Great video topic👍.
I appreciate that and I really did consider that bike.
I think you can throw age out the window!....just like street riding...stay within your skill level and you will/can still have a blast on these things!!...great video....thanks for sharing....stay safe out there!!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
That's the plan!
When I was out in the wilds of Canada and Alaska there were plenty of people over 65 out riding those crazy roads. Ran into a group of guys in the local forest tearing it up. The youngest guy was 67.
yup, if you stay relatively healthy and strong enough there is no reason people can do stuff like this as long as their health situation allows it. Im 53 and am at the local motocross track going crazy once a week when its not winter. In the winter im in the gym. Im 5'11 and 220lbs of muscle because of the sport. People call my popeye because my forearms are massive from my death grip on my motocrosser.
Your epic trip
My view is you only live one lifetime so enjoy what makes you happy..
Amen
12 years ago I started riding. Started on a 2011 KLR, and it was tippy toe. Made myself get better, and the gravels roads and trails helped alot. Now at 44 I'm just getting into hard enduro, and always enjoyed the work out with trail riding a KLR, but holy shit hard enduro skillz you up and keeps you in shape. Trying my darndest to line up a snow bike kit for my 450 enduro. Also really wanting the Triumph Tiger sport 660. I just love riding😄
Many middle aged riders switching to the up right, higher veiws in traffic, and the best riding position to travel long hours. Plus the skills learnt on loose surfaces will someday save your bacon✌
I agree with you on the type of roads and I did look at that triumph. It looks pretty sweet.
@@bodeanaventures i mostly want the tiger 660 for commuting and road trips. But I'm sure I'd modify it enough to be more adventurous 😅
56 here. After 12 years of riding road bikes (notably 2004 BMW R1150R for 6 years and a Honda VTX 1300), I went for ADV riding with a 2022 KLR650. Having a lot of fun. Took a few classes to learn the basics of off-roading and ADV bike handling. The KLR is exactly what I needed to learn the fundamentals while still having fun touring at an appropriate pace. I might upgrade to an middle weight ADV twin cylinder bike in the future, but I am definitely glad I took the challenge. I plan to ride for a long time. Not long ago, I met an older rider in his late 70's who decided to downsize to a KTM 390 Adventure for his daily rides, and added a Ural Side Car for his long distance Adventure touring trips. Quite a clever option.
Put dog in sidecar
I'm 68. When I was your age, I thought I was old, too. Little did I know....I was still pretty young.
I am 65 and just recently bought a dual sport. Rode 3 sections of the MABDR. Can't wait to get back and finish it.
I too can’t wait to finish it as well!!
@@Motoramblings maybe I will see you out there! 😊
@@Adventureswithmeme could happen! We were close on timing the last time!!
That is awesome. I’ve heard so much about it.
71 and riding a 21 Africa Twin 1100 AS DCT and loving it.
Inspiring
I'm 61, will be riding next spring, we're up to 6 riders going with us. 4 klrs, 1 honda 450 & a ktm 390, 90 % back road or lite trails, KOA camping when we have too.
That sounds like a riot!
I'm 51 and NO! you are NOT too old. Looks like you really enjoy riding so keep riding brother. We have the same bike, I have a gen3 2023 yellow. I use it as a daily commute rain, shine and all weather. Do you still have the stock tires? I changed to Motoz Tractionator GPS at 3000 miles. Anyways, stay young bud.
Thanks and yea still stock tires. Figured I would flip them out after I burn through them. You liking the tires?
I am nearly 61 and ride a Harley lowrider st and a KTM690 enduro hope to stay healthy enough to ride well into my 80s
Love it and I plan to do the same!
I'm 57 and I bought a street bike last year. I almost went with a KLR 650 though. I really like my Vulcan 900, but the KLR just looks like a lot of fun to me. I just happened upon a good deal.
I have a YZ250 two-stroke and hit the local track once a week when its not winter, sometimes twice a week if work allows.. Im 53 now. I have bene told a MILLION times by people I know that Im too old for the sport since I was in my early 40's. It annoys the hell out of me when I hear it and I sort of lay into them with "Why? Im strong and healthy so why do you think I should stop exactly?" and they say things like "oh you dont bounce back as fast when you get hurt" etc and I tell them Ive bene doing this for 30 years now and I dont get injured as badly because im so strong and healthy all the time and when i do hurt myself, I heal up and move on. Im 5'11 and 220lbs and pretty much solid muscle because of my sport. People mean well but they are clueless.
Someone always told me don’t worry about opinions coming from those that you wouldn’t ask it from.
I'm 72 and am now preparing my 30yo Tiger ( carb model) for a circa 3500km tour from Germany to Orkney/Shetland and Ireland next spring, and when that's done have a 8-9 thou' km tour thro' Europe/ Cyprus and Turkey and NO time schedule, camping as much as possible. PS, No Motorways.
Oh my that sounds amazing
I like how you're talking about being an older rider and leave your blinker on for a good while. They're not self cancelling on this bike unfortunately 😂
I laugh at myself all the time when I do that and so used to my Harleys canceling 🤷♂️
Never too old to ride ADV. 65 and i ride a Yamaha Super Tenere 1200. And i am looking for a new KIR650. Old dudes rule 😀
Amen!
we had our Goldwing's, and Harleys, now, it's time to slow down, and enjoy the dirt roads, and do some moto camping.
That sounds nice
I can’t imagine not having an ADV bike now. It’s too much fun, and that may be where the age thing comes in. Most of us that are on ADV bikes now, have a ton of experience on street bikes. I think maybe part of the reason I enjoy this so much is because street riding doesn’t present the “fun” factor as much as it used to….??
That’s a great point going from the street to adventure
59 isn't old at all if you take care of yourself and your mindset
is locked in to never, ever quit
ride till you can't !!95 !!!!! let's F go!!!!!!!
There ya go brother, love your tude. Well, most of the time.
Hey, also 59 and I gave up my street bike for my KLR. Once we get used to the ADV suspension you get spoiled for anything else. What back trouble? The plush ride and seat makes it way easier to manage riding for me at least. It's the most fun riding I've had in my lifetime for certain. The slower thumpers too are what appeals to me.
Totally get that and this bike is fun!
I took my road test on a ice covered, road. (the lady that, did my certification, thought I was crazy, for just showing up), med December. I did my figure 8 on ice.
Nice work!
@@bodeanaventures been riding since 1979, 11 bikes, and over 400,000 Plus miles. time to break in the 24, KLR
I'm 88 be 89 next month, if your in good shape no reason to quit riding. Rode to PNW twice and Alaska 1 time from So Cal on a KLR don't get in a hurry take back roads see what this country is about !!!
59 is not old. I'm not that far behind. :) Funny how when we were young 50s was old but now that we are here, not so much. I guess it's all in how you feel. As long as you are comfortable, you're never too old to ride an ADV bike. Safe riding up there!
That’s a good point I remember being as a teenager and thought my parents in their 40s were old 😂
Great video. If I am as old as I feel than I am about 150 years old. Ride Safe
Depends on the day here too my friend
I, too, am 59,ride everday. We need to practice more often.Parking lots are my play ground.Have a R.E.Himmy and Kawaski Versa x300.
Very nice and you are right on the practicing for sure
Stay safe, stay young at heart! And dont let anyone tell you that you are to old to do anything! Love your content on both channels, keep up the good work!
Amen to that and really appreciate it. I get to do this for fun and it’s really cool to talk, ride, and even meet people with the same love and passion I have for motorcycles.
66 here, still git'n aft'a it. Although a little more cautious, obviously. New ankle, two knees, two hips and, both shoulders. definitely don't wanna fall. Still have fun though. Riding a 2020 KTM 390 Adventure with numerous mods.
That’s awesome Dan and I hope we both get many many more years of riding.
I'm 64 & have a 16 year old son , we will be riding our Gen 3 KLR'S from Dallas to Yosemite summer 2024 if old age don't get me first Lol
That will be amazing memories, enjoy that!
I am close to seventy and still riding, hope to keep it going many more years, my motor cycles are the one thing that make the years behind only be used to store the memories!!
Amen to that James
71 yrs here and riding a 23 KLRS. Don't go by the age number. Some of us has taken care of ourselves.
Amen to that
Fellow Michigander and Klr rider love the channel
Thanks I appreciate that. I need to find more places to ride in our beautiful state. Whereabouts are you?
@@bodeanaventures I live near grand rapids and I go to the Manistee national foster a lot
Perfect thanks!
you bet
I’m older also and would love to have an adventure bike
Hope you can one day
I did a video with a buddy talking about how most ADV riders are “older”. I can’t convince my son to buy one to save my life!!! I don’t think we’ll be too old, maybe we’ll get too “unable”…..
The physical aspect of off-road riding is surely a consideration. But it has more to do with fitness, than age. If you're out of shape and think you're going to jump on an ADV and start having a good ol' time ripping around off-road, you will be in for a big sore-ass surprise. 😁 In fact, even in-shape you'll still need to train up for it.... That said, off-roading is the most fun we can have on motorcycles, so yes ADVing is worth the cost at any age. Now if I can just stop taking about it, pick an ADV and buy it... I can get on with the show...
Time to roll dude
🛑🛑 I’m sensing a “common theme” on both you channels. 😂
Do you have a Birthday coming up or what??
I always have a birthday coming up by say 😂
@@bodeanaventures
You birthday was Saturday when you got that Buck. 👍
If you want to challenge yourself and your age, sell that mini bike and buy a adventure bike. Then go tear up some dirt, ride like a madman down some nasty trails. Get crazy and live a little. I'm the same age as you and own a Triumph 900 rally Pro and ride the hell out of it. Not on the street passing cornfields, but on the worst backroads in AZ. Michigan has some awesome trails that you could "adventure" on so why are you riding like an old man driving 10 under the speed limit? At our age time is short and we don't have time to be complacent.
That’s a great point, and I really have been thinking about maybe something a little bit more. I’ll check out to triumph.
@@bodeanaventures it's a beast of a bike. It took me 2 months to figure it out. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Isn't age just a number?
Your only as old as you think you are 😊
Hell yes it is
I’m getting that bike tomorrow what is that phone mount?
It’s a quad lock, will probably end up with a GPS instead
I’ll check in to that that bar is really small for the mount
I think the mount I ordered was considered the perch mount because the bar is so small@@Brandn43
Do you have videos of you riding your Harleys ??
Hi John and yes I do. Here is the link to my BoDean 52 RUclips channel

De que tamaño es el Top case??? Lts
Comes on the traveler model
rideing with your turn signal on shows your age.
Have to say that there are many folks out there on You Tube saying the same thing! Your vid has absolutely no ADV style riding and adds little to what most ADV riders know.
Riding around on paved roads pontificating does not do it for me. Disappointed as a fellow ADV/KLR rider that i have learnt nothing from your post. Sorry to be critical but many of
us search for information and/or entertaining riding. I don.t count this post as either. Happy that you have plenty of less analytical or discerning comments.
Appreciate the feedback Mike and some channels just don’t do it for folks. You have a great weekend and happy riding your KLR
