Awesome skills, however I almost lost my left thumb. Cutting wood on my table saw, just as you were in the video. I got a kick back, it happened in a millisecond. My left thumb hit the moving blade. I had to call my wife home from work. She had to take my to the ER to have it stitched back together. The Dr. Said he sees several cases a month, where people have table saw accident. I have at least 30 plus years of wood working experience. It only takes once to have a accident. Plus you might consider removing your ring while using the lathe I have also heard of accidents where people have their fingers severed on the lathe while wareing rings. Be safe, think safety first. Happy wood working. 👍👍👍👍👍😁😁😁😁😁😎
Thank you I’ll keep your advice in mind
Very nice, as a wood turner that was a project after my own heart. May I suggest that if you do a similar project in the future you could use the double stick tape you used on the sound board to stick two boards together, then turn the neck out of them. Then pull the boards apart like you did with the bridge. Then you will have two necks instead of one and a pile of plane shavings.
Thank you. Yes that’s a really good idea
Your not only a great woodworker but you can play music too!!! Asome build man, It was so nice to see how you did it! Great video !
thank you very much
Watching channels like Scrap Wood City definitely have made quarantine a lot more interesting
Nice to hear that. Thank you
Well, the sound of the melody you played is very popular in my country. Greetings from Greece!!
It looked like it was a long process to create this instrument, but you have master it cause this is not the first time you do one of these!!! Awesome!!!
Thank you. It was indeed a long process

Bravo 👏 an odd duck for sure, but it has a unique style. The only thing I’d recommend would be to have hollowed out the inner part of the bowl more, shooting for back and side thicknesses of no more than a 1/4”. Most mandolins that size have backs and sides that are 50% of that thickness, just by comparison.
I've been watching a few episodes of this series and it's very cool work. You could try starting from a calebasse (like the kind of dried pumpkin they use for African instruments), your instrument bodies already have this kind of look and you would get a thinner body without having to remove all this wood.
I definitely want to try a pumpkin. I just didn't have the opportunity to get one so far.
@@ScrapwoodCity Cool! I'm thinking about trying smth myself and it looks like you can order it pretty easily, at least in Europe.
As always, a pleasure to see a master in action. Fantastic, thank you very much for sharing and inspiring us all
Cheers
Thank you very much for the nice words!
*sees six tuners before they get cut* “Don’t do that, don’t give me hope”
Why not! Anyone can do it with a little patience.
This is so cool!!!!
Thank you
Great video Dimitri, I'm not a luther, or a musician, but watching your videos tempts me at time to try my hand at it. But then I realize once again, that except for a mean stereo, I can't make music to save my life. A kazoo is more my speed, lol!
lol, you should try it out! Thanks for the nice words!
I thought the same thing, until about 5 years ago. Over 50 instruments later, I still don't play the best, but I enjoy building. The best part is the look on someone's face when I hand them their new instrument.
This seems to be the longest video you've ever put here but another work of art arose. Nice job, sir !
Thank you! I think this and my cigar box guitar are my longest videos!
Dude its amazing to see you make instruments again! Can you do a balalaika? If it interests you. There is a pdf on how to make them out on the internet
Thanks I actually would like to make one! We'll see!
Great as usual.. I thought for a while there you were going to get to the end of the video and not going to give it a play... And then you came through. Well done :)
thank you
Very nice!
I wish my dad had seen this video before he passed. He had all of those tools.
Lengthy build, mate. 👏
Fantastic work, looks amazing. 👍
thank you
I have an American friend over here who makes fine musical instruments.
Expat Luthier in the Philippines
Great instrument with a great sound! 👍🏻
Thank you
Do you even have ears?
nice video. please more instruments
thank you
Jonny/trash builder _ have you checked SWC's back catalogue? He has made lots of instruments - I think you'd enjoy them!
Well done and thank you! (For the music, too!)
Thanks for watching and commenting
Thumbs up! Awesome job!
You are so bloody talented
Thank you
Simply amazing man keep creating
Looks and sounds beautiful!
thank you
Wonderful job mate and really entertaining vid. I love the sound of the instrument, so far away and evocative - the Greek version of the 'high, lonesome sound'! Didn't you make a thicknessing sander for the lathe a few years ago? You could have used the lathe another way there! Great job Dimitris, thanks mate.
Thanks Mark. You are absolutely right, I forgot about the sander.
Thanks for showing how and sharing that, art work
thank you very much
Indeed a great project with many woodworking techniques. Congrats for a job well done. Keep it up!
Thank you very much!
This is super awesome!
thank you
Great video, thanks !
thank you
Nice little musical instrument Friend! Thanks for sharing the video.👌👍😎JP
Thank you JP
Your very welcome Friend! Have a great week! 😎
thank you really. i love that instrument videos. please share more. also i would like to see your solid body violin experiment. just a suggest ;)
Thank you. The violin is a good idea. I try to make more instruments when I can.
That was a lovely video, Dimitri. I have made a couple of cigar box guitars and strum sticks. I love making musical instruments, but I can only play two songs :-)
Thank you. I am really glad you liked it
Great Project, good to see you make an instrument again! (oh, and I liked the filming of the turning where (because of the speed) it looked like the chisel was in the middle of nowhere!) All the best from Portugal!
Thank you very much, greetings from Greece
Absolutely stunning work! It sounds great too! 😀
hahahahaha this thing sounds sweet! I love it
Brilliant as usual :) ॐ
thank you
Superb-I love your instrument makes-gives me lots of ideas.
thank you
This is awesome.
That was brilliant, sounded really good too!
thank you
the fretboard is T H I C C
Really nice!
thank you
Wow,,, to the max...😆
Thank you
how satisfying is using the lathe
Yeah! nice video! and nice "guitalele"!
thank you
That's what I'm like it.
thank you
why is this so cool
Muy bonita guitarrita y curioso su sonido. Saludos.
Awesome! My first workshop was actually my kitchen! Keep it up!
Great!!!!
Thank you
You never cease to amaze, that was an awesome instrument build! And it also played well...... :)
Thank you
You should try to make a bass banjo
Beautiful work as usual
Can you build a flat back electric oud
it would be great to learn from you
We'll see! it's a good idea! I love oud!
@@ScrapwoodCity
Thank u,
It's beautiful. The back and sides are too thick. I know you wanted to use the lathe and it is hard to get it thinner on the lathe.
i need more handmade guitars
Who doesn't! lol
Super GooD)))))))
thank you
i wish i had tools to do woodworking like this but im very weak and probably couldn't use a saw very well
Strength is a slow gain, small steps can help you gain strength, know how, and ability. 👍You got dis if you want it
that is like a mandolin
I take it you like the Fallout series? I swear I heard the slide change sound that you hear at the load screen of Fallout 3. Nice!
Lol, actually I don’t know what this is
Can you please make a pipa?!?! I would like to know how you would make it.
How would you go about making a wind instrument like a flute or sax out of wood?
7:35 is that blood on the workbench?
Nop. It's paint!
Eres un maestro
You missed a chance to use the lathe to make violin-style friction pegs.
Lol, I guess I did
Mantap lurrr😊
What is the tuning of the instrument ?
With a 20 min video it woulda been nice to have a demo longer than 20 seconds
Make a lapsteel next!
I have already made one, but I will make another one in future.
Yaaaassssss
What about make, Caucasian Phandar? I think you can do it (because you made so good instruments)
I'll do my research! ;)
So it’s like a lute mixed with a ukulele
Efsane beateful
You are going to have tuning issues with the angle of that headstock. try to aim for about 12°
I believe you've just made a cool looking Ukelele ., What do you think ?
I would call it bouzoukelele
Kreatip👍👍👍👍👍😎🇮🇩
Can you make a Mandolin, with 'S' in the Body?
Perhaps in future!
Is that a blood stain by the sander?
Lol, fortunately no, it’s just dye
what strings did you use?
Spoon guitar
That's a bouzouki
God
'as much as possible', I don't see a fully bowed lute-style back on that bih, so minus points
I watching the first
lol, thanks
