- Rescuing 11 Raccoons
Gates Wildlife Field Supervisor Joel was called out to rescue 11 raccoons from a closed in porch of a home. As you will see in the video, the house was under full renovation and the back door was left open one night. Once inside, the raccoons made their way through a broken window leading into the front porch of the home. One by one, the raccoons must have followed each other into the porch area. The window was too high for the raccoons to get back inside and the front door to the porch was closed, leaving this group of raccoons stuck for the night.
The next day, the construction workers showed up to find 11 raccoons huddled in the front room and immediately called us, not knowing what to do.
Joel was able to use his catch pole to carefully persuade each raccoon, one by one, outdoors.
One raccoon ran out the door before the video had started. (In case anyone is counting)

@ToroMc Toro Shouldn't that be the other way around? if it's in a public place it's dangerous but if it's your private property that's fine? Public area's like a park or somewhere else they could bite bystanders, someones kids etc but on your porch you know where they are and can take responsibility, monitor and safely keep your distance.
I've seen coyotes, bobcats and copperheads right outside my door, I just sweet talk them or ignore them. I don't think people should think too much into it.

I love it. At first you think "oh he's a professional, he sure will have special equipment and such" then you see him poking them with a stick until they get annoyed and leave.

Those were some calm and well feed raccoons. Every one of then was chubby, cute and non-aggressive.

They're not fat, they're weight-challenged, thank you very much.
They have to get that fat to survive winter. They go into torpor and sleep most of the winter. By spring they will be 30% lighter, more if the winter is a very long and hard one.

Raccoons are dangerous in a house cuz they tend to rip up wires in the attic then a fire starts and they die in fires to. Raccoon to comfy with people can become a real safety issue and even deadly to people if the poor thing contracts rabies at anytime. Raccoon can transmit rabies up to 18 mos before first symptom.
I am so glad no harm came to those beautiful precious raccoons. I thank the Animal Control Officer for doing a Wonderful A-1 job of gently disbursing those little fellas. GOD BLESS YOU. 👍👍👍
