    Our pediatrician and hospital said to never use a rectal thermometer because it can be dangerous if accidentally used incorrectly. It can cause infection and damage to the rectum. We got a thermometer that can go in his ear or on his forehead. It’s pretty accurate! (Not trying to say anyone is wrong for using a rectal one, just wanted to raise awareness. If you feel comfortable with it and know use it properly, then go for it!)

    I'm pregnant with my 3rd kiddo currently. Im very thankful for you sharing this with other moms or moms to be especially because you are an influencer. A lot of RUclipsrs are buying a lot of products that aren't truly needed and leading their followers to believe they need it. Part of their job is to advertise things from their affiliates and part of it is that they can afford extra things that most middle to low income viewers can't. IT'S not crazy expensive to raise kids, truly.
    So again thank you for being realistic and practical ❤❤❤❤❤❤

      I couldn’t agree more! I’ve been watching nursery organization videos and can’t believe how much stuff people buy. Like who needs 15 blankets, 10 swaddles, 50 girl bows, etc. Its really not necessary if you can just wash a few between using. I also think a lot of it has to do with impressing other people with what you have or a new outfit for the baby everyday.

    If you want to warm up your bottle you can also use a crockpot! Put a little water in there and turn heat to low (or high in the morning for a quicker warming) and it can go on all day! You change the water every day in the crockpot and it heats up the bottles really nicely!

    I gave birth in September, and I was looking for a bassinet and I heard so much about the Snoo. It was so recommended and I was on the verge of buying it but for some reason I kept looking for other bassinets that maybe had the same functions and I found that 4moms came out with the Mamaroo bassinet it’s the same as the seat and practically the same as the Snoo and it came out in Canada in August and without thinking twice I got it and it’s around 500$ which is way cheaper than the Snoo that retails here in Canada for 1800$. My baby loves it! So just wanted to recommend this as an alternative to all the mamas that are looking into a bassinet.

    I would like to point out that receiving blankets are SUPER useful when we aren't in a pandemic! we always had them on us when we were out and about and traveling as they are so versatile! they can be a blanket, used to shade your child, to lay them down on in public, as a nursing cover, and to clean spit-up..! we had our second child in July though and definitely have hardly used them at all

      a 'P grabber' (ages 4 months +) or Chewy tube (age 1 +) are great for encouraging chewing. The more chewing on the back teeth the better the jaw development. Little jaws are so malleable before the age of 5/6, set them up for nice spacing rather than crowding and you might save on orthodontics.

      1. For legit snow boots I recommend sorel get waterproof ones
      2. For cute boots it doesn’t really matter but generally I try to get boots that are smooth leather or rubber outside so they don’t soak up a bunch of slush.
      3. Wool socks for if it’s really cold but you only really need this if you are outside a long time
      4. Multiple coats: long down filled coat, short down coat, wool coat or trench for looking nicer, and even some light weight puffer jackets. That being said I am a real Minnesotan and will go somewhere with no jacket at all in the middle of a storm
      5. For basic outfits just sweaters and jeans is perfect with some snazzy boots (I love faux croc print leather) and then spice it with jewelry 😁

  • @KatkaSuriKatka
    @KatkaSuriKatka 3 года назад +1

    Hi, thanks for this video! However, I think you do need some sort of soft slip on baby shoes in case you carry your baby in a wrap/carrier and it is cold outside. I kind of regret not having them at the moment. And about wraps - my son hated being put in a wrap, but it turns out the babies usually complain about other things than the wrapping itself. Eg. Sitting in a wet diaper or the act of putting them inside the wrap can be uncomfortable, just like putting on clothes. I ended up putting him inside the wrap while asleep for a few weeks, now he is 4 months and totally OK with it, provided the diaper is dry :D also, breastfeeding while in a wrap soothes. And Babybjorn carrier is actually not a very good carrier - babies in a carrier should always have their but lower than their knees. Otherwise they are literally hanging on their genitalia, and their hips are not in a healthy position ;) So no wonder if he complains. Also, the back support should not be padded - back of the baby should form a nice C shape, always facing the carrying person. I am sure you could rent and try come other brand, but I recommend doing some research first :D
    But as you said, every baby and family are different. Mine is not a fan of a pram and currently latches properly only while in a wrap/carrier.. so it is life saving for me, but you may be doing just as well without it ;)

    • @brittanylockwood6085
      @brittanylockwood6085 3 года назад +1

      Sorry for commenting,
      But you don’t need much more than a baby born in the winter, unless you live in a normally freezing cold state during the winter. When babies are first born, they can’t regulate their temperature properly, so you will still want some long sleeve outfits for about the first few weeks-first month or so. If you’re someone who likes to be outside and plans to have the baby outside a ton, maybe an outdoor mat/towel, or a place to put them. Fisher Price has the little circle dome with the hood that goes over it, that’s a lifesaver for me and we live in FL. A hat and sunglassesif you like to walk with baby outside. Some shorter sleeve outfits, but you can probably get away with 3-6 months at max if you get cold falls and winters. Honestly, living somewhere it’s consistently in the 80s/90s, we don’t use a lot extra compared to having a baby in the winter. Hope that helps some. Sunblock too. But you really won’t need much for the first summer unless you pretty much live outside with the baby.

We actually bought a mini crib off Amazon because she got too tall for her bassinet around 4 months old and I wasn’t ready to let her sleep in her room (I have pretty bad PPD/PPA). For the mini crib, mattress, and sheets we spent $150 vs bassinets are normally $200ish. And she uses the mini crib still at 10 months old at my moms house since it doesn’t take up a lot of room.

    Thank you for this video. I just want to note that I enjoyed using this rocker because it was lightweight so I can transfer it from room to room, I used all a lot when I was in the shower I would put her there and I would know she would be safe as I showered. However every moment every situation is different, it is expensive and so maybe try to find it on Facebook marketplace

    I'm a mom of 2 and agree with 99% of this! Each baby is so different, my first loved pacifiers and my second never took one, my first loved being wrapped and my second didn't like being in a baby carrier till around 7 months.

    Lots of blankets are good if you have a spitty up baby or you leak a lot of milk. Also, the forehead thermometers are awesome once they’re older/toddlers and won’t stay still to their temperature or hate the feeling of the thermometer. Totally agree about pretty much everything else though-also had a bottler warmer and my Mom and husband would always just warm the milk in a mug of hot water anyways

    Yesss!! So many good things on this list I agree with. Especially the newborn clothes, I had so many and my baby was in 0-3 and 3 months right when she was born 😅

    Braun makes a great ear Thermometer.
    Don't panic if your baby doesn't want a pacifier. Their tongue is supposed to be up on the hard palate (roof of mouth) and that stimulates the nerves in the skin/gum which sends happy soothing signals to the brain.

    It surprises me that people don't think to look for certain things second hand like expensive carriers, bassinets, nursery furniture, clothes etc. Baby items and gear are only used for a short time and there is an over abundance of gently used second hand items almost anything you can want. I bought almost everything second hand.

    • @evelynduron6549
      @evelynduron6549 3 года назад

      Yup!! We got everything second hand except for his monitor, car seat, and diaper bag. The furniture we got was 250 and retail value it was 3k cause it’s from France.

    Another tip regarding diaper pails. Get doggie poop bags and tie up your dirty diapers inside one and toss in your regular trash can. They will lock in the smell just as well until you take your regular trash out.

    I agree with the baby bottle and sterilizer one. It’s nice to have but you can definitely go without. I personally love that I have it because my dishwasher takes like 4 hrs to wash & sterilize. My sterilizer a only takes 6 minutes so I prefer the convenience of it. But honestly if you schedule yourself right you can just do that overnight and have them ready in the morning.

    On the note of different pacifiers or even different bottle brands I know there are some companies that actually do assorted brand boxes so you can get one of each brand to try out what your baby will take. That could definitely help prevent buying who bottle systems that might not work for your baby or pacie brands that they baby will just reject.

    The only pacifiers my first son used were the free green ones from the hospital. He never really needed any others nor did he use them very long. They are overrated and were a hassle for my sis to wean her little girl off of.

    i have 800 swaddle blankets so my dogs use three of them as blankets. In case you also have too many swaddles you can use it on dogs as well.
