I find Nikon Jpegs to be pretty good if you going for the natural look straight from the camera. The Rich Tone Portrait preset is pretty good. I personally always shoot RAW. I tried to do Jpegs, but many times end up wanting a different look later and RAW give me more flexibility with a couple clicks. I use Nikon's own NX Studio Raw editor so it has the default preset. Nikon got the image quality and the quality lenses. If they update the film simulation soon it will be a massive hit.

I'm a little confused by you adding "film simulations" to the Zf... it does come with 20-ish "Picture Controls," and they can be customized. Not to the extent that the film simulations can be on Fujifilm, and yeah, Nikon totally skipped the grain, but they're not that bad. Totally wish Nikon would give us extensive customization with what they call Picture Controls, including grain, but I'll take what I can get, I love the full frame and Nikon colors. My theory on the grain is that the Nikon IQ is SO clean and crisp, they don't want people "messing it up" with grain haha. Import into LR using "in camera preset" option and you get the Nikon Picture Control on the RAW NEF and baked into the JPG, best of both!
I think the new Nikon Flexible Color Picture Control might come close to the Fujifilm Recipes system

Didn't Nikon announced a system similar as Lumix with their LUTs where you can just download film recipes?
I think it's only available for the Z6 III but will come to the other Z's later on

They just need a better set of retro lenses. Absolutely sigma need to bring out the i series for Nikon. I ise them on Loint and they are absolutely my favourites.
I use the Voigtländer 50 1.2 and 40 1.2 native z-mount, as well as Zeiss Distagon and Planar f-mount via FTZII adapter in mine, a very nice experience. There are also quite a few very good old AF-D lenses, like the 85 1.4, 105 and 135 F2 DC lenses, all going very well with this body. All in MF of course, but they again, this is why I got the Zf as a travel camera.
tempted... just that screen, ditching one of my fuji xh2 because of it, want a photo 1st camera so only option is the XT5 but again don't want 40mp.
Need this camera but in the ZFc size and with proper 4k60. If Sony can do it, Nikon can do it (and look good)

That custom settings thing is interesting, If i knew about that a couple months ago i wouldve pulled the trigger on this! kind of a silly question but if youre uploading these custom settings through SD then you format your card through the camera will that remove the custom settings? or because you created a new folder the camera wont touch that folder when its formatting the card?
also also Have you thought about using the nikon Z to E adapter with the ZF?
It loads those custom picture controls to the camera (there's 10 slots available). So you can reformat your card after you load them and they will remain.
What camera strap are you using?

Highly recommend the Fuji X100VI. Much improved video capabilities thanks to the IBIS, great photo capabilities, and overall just a fun camera to use. I only use JPG and SOOC photo/video with this camera, which is the complete opposite of every other camera I own.
Not trying to crash the party, but (I think) all of these custom settings need to be "lens-sensor specific" (I know that's a lot of work, but I did it for Panasonic...it's on my website.)😃
If you did the B&W in-camera, i really like how this camera renders💯 im guessing it would look amazing with their vintage Nikkors!
The lack of viewfinder doesn't put me off too much; after all, my iPhone doesn't have one either and I shoot plenty on that. But the lens situation isn't working for me. I'd like to see a compact L mount offering at f2 or better. But the camera is pretty cool. It's on my maybe list since I can't find a fuji.
I have it and the only negative is for a latest and greatest it does cropped 4K60. My ancient 7 year old GH5 even does uncropped 4K.
I think we should start pronouncing it Nee-koh-n, just to throw off the whole western world
XT-5 Fuji Juice? or XS-20 Fuji Juice? it can just be those little juice box drinks for kids and you can keep the big O 40's with OJ still yet.
Great Video, I love my Zf, I traded my Zfc in for the Zf nine months ago and apple still do not support the raw format for the Zf, so keep shooting Jpegs.
xt3 and xt4 are both awesome cameras. the video qualiry is good..

Can anyone confirm if the picture control website is effective in term of color control? It seems to me the “recipes” there just affect the tone curve but not color… I am new to Nikon and that website. Please advise if anyone know. Thanks!

Nikon watched a bunch of their customers switch to Fuji and decided they needed to get into the retro camera body game. I do like the looks of this Nikon and I like Nikon cameras better than Cannon and Sony, but Fuji will always get my money.

I’ve heard this has horrendous ergonomics
As with everything in life, it is subjective. I have large hands, and with smaller lenses, it is decent without the Smallrig grip. Add that grip, and it feels good even with longer lenses. Generally, one anyway supports larger lenses with the left-hand, so it is a non-issue. I mean, it has better ergos than the Leica M-series, for example, and people don’t complain about those :)
