    Please Note:- You cannot connect the GPU Riser to your USB port. The usb cable is just used as an alternative to a ribbon cable, there is no usb interface. You cannot run the gpu riser from a usb port!

      I am very new to all the technical stuff related to mining. I was wondering if you connect the PCIe extension to PCIe 1x slot, will the GPU not reduce in performance since you are providing it with less bandwidth?

    You really should be using an anti-static mat and grounding yourself. Every time you touch components, you are likely transferring a potential electrical charge and making connections which may damage the components.

    SATA extension risers have too many conflicts and glitches, I recommend PCI extension ribbon cables. You can use multiple cables and put your video card at the other side of the room if you want...
    USB extension risers are mostly just for the small PCIe slots that a PCI extension ribbon cable won't work in.
    If you have a mining board with multiple full PCI slots or if you have a gaming board with only a few full slots but a handful of small slots, 4 pin.. Mining boards are cheaper than all the hardware with normal 6gpu motherboards.

    • @IMineBlocks
      @IMineBlocks  3 года назад

      They're okay, I did use them years ago but typically much more expensive than risers.

I discovered one of these "risers, extenders, adapters etc..." online in a market place. I wasnt sure of the compatibility of these or how they worked. Thanks for explaining the PCI-E and the peripherals it really helped me make a lot of sense in purchasing some of these to add on to my other motherboards and create a more optimal old PC with newer components.

    Nice video, thanks. Agree with the comment on plugging directly into the power supply, rather than using short adapter cables. Some PSUs, even high wattage ones, can suffer from higher resistance caused by unnecessary connections. One of our units burnt out when the cable melted, luckily we didn't have a fire.

    Good stuff. Might be useful to mention that 90 degree versions also exist, that would actually allow getting to this x1 slot with x16 GPU installed in the long one (this particular riser in the video would not allow that, as the blue connecting cable is sticking up in the air where the fat GPU case would be).

    So does the x1 channel have enough bandwidth to work with that x16 GPU card?
    Conversely, if you could theoretically fit 4 of the those 1x extenders into a single x16 slot, you would have four 16x GPU cards on one 16x slot.. so what am I missing?

    I know it's a minor, and rather obvious step, but maybe put a pop-up comment about making sure PCI-E powered cable is connected from PSU into GPU. A novice just following these steps might be saved a headache. Also, with these USB connectors, I've heard you don't need to use the molex power on the riser. Is this true? Do you have experience with testing this?

    You've just saved me buying something thats not right for my needs... 5:12 you say that the USB cable can't plug into a USB port as that "simply wont work" and needs to connect to the PCIe mini card adaptor. Is there "something" I can buy - a PCIe to USB that actually plugs into a USB port as I have a laptop and want to buy a riser-type "thing" to attempt to repair a graphics card. So would need to see a video output and connect via USB-A or USB-C (or thunderbolt) to my laptop ?

    The are 2 problems with this setup, 1- you are reducing PC-E speed to 1 lane so if your card is PC-E 16x (16 Lane) and connecting using this adapter, it will drop to PCI-E 1x (1 Lane) , I would instead use a ribbon extender of 16x to 16x

    Is there any way to use it directly in the USB port? "Cause i plan to use it on my laptop which indeed has an ExpressCard slot. So a link to buy an express card with a PCI-E would also be helpful. Thank You!
