- A new season of Inside The Ambulance kicks off with Neil and Steve responding to a potentially gang-related stabbing while Hannah and Michelle go to the aid of a woman with severe abdominal pain. Time is of the essence as Joe and Sam rush to treat an allergic reaction and Matt and Aaron respond to an unconscious child who fell off his bike.
For the very first time, an ambulance has been rigged with cameras that provide a unique perspective on what it's like to respond to emergency calls. Paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service in England take us right into the heart of the action. We see heroism at work in the actions of these first responders. We also enter the lives of people in crisis and learn their unique stories.

As a Paramedic the absolute most accurate part of this, is the segment of each crew constantly talking about food while going to calls.
That's because they don't have time to eat properly good food on their breaks. They have to drop everything in that one second for a call if they feel they are the only ones in that call vicinity.

I really respect those kids by the bicycle accident! They put the poor guy in a pretty good stable lateral position and were able to explain how it happened and his current state in pretty good detail. Big thumbs up!

In my country, they teach you how to stabilize a person, if there is some accident, in primary school (6-15), also it is your duty by law to help person in danger, unless it endangers you.

I will never understand why paramedics are so underpaid?! Because they didn't spend $100k on schooling? Just look at the work they do, that alone deserves double what they get paid.

The whole idea that an ambulance should cost you money is absurd. The fire department doesn’t send you a bill if they come out and put out your burning house. The cops don’t send you a bill when they stop someone from breaking into your house. Why should urgent medical care be the distinction?

Poor Andy....smh. I can’t IMAGINE just being attacked out of nowhere by street thugs. Helmets are so important for riding bikes especially with this kid that seems accident prone. Hopefully he will hav no more bike accidents.

I am the only one in my family who actually follows the fact that you are supposed to replace a bicycle helmet after a crash, and then after mine got warped in a car. So yeah I’m on my 3rd one and I am doing great. My bike shows some scars and I somehow don’t. Despite skinning my knee. That bike accorded is how I started getting into bike repair as I had to fix a few issues with my bike after that. But it’s working great now years after its crashes

20:58 that is a great idea. To ensure bad drivers are given a warning or a fine for simply stupid driving, they should have cameras in front and back of ambulances...I remember in New York and San Fran, people would chase ambulances to avoid traffic in 90s.
They still do. My husband is a paramedic and the stories he tells about drivers!!
They already do it with stopped school buses they should do it with public service vehicles too
This still happens in Nairobi, Kenya. The sheer number of people speeding at their backs is like a rally track in the middle of the city, the ambulance wailing as it unintentionally leads the charge.

Guess it never,yet happened,but it can. Haveing certain health conditions,diseases and or viruses can do this. There is a rare virus that can make you become re sick over again as a side effect in a week later. Granted tbrowing up is more faster and less likely to re start up. Not many realize that with viruses. Even after you had the main side effects. Not showing anything. You still sick for 5-8 days with it.

Airborne nut allergy? Well that's a fresh hell I never new about!
When you can smell something then that means tiny particles of it are in the air and go into your nose/mouth. Ppl with severe allergies can get a reaction from those particles alone. I knew a dude that swelled up bc he smelled the peanut sauce we cooked a few hours before. Crazy and scary.
@@gentlechaos5911 Yup! And it doesn't even have to enter your mouth to have a severe reaction. I once got a bit of tomato on my skin (severely allergic) and had an extreme allergic reaction from it. Food allergies suck. I'm actually undergoing a new kind of treatment to hopefully reduce the severity of my food allergies :D Fingers crossed it helps! I'm hoping one day there will be a tried and tested method of reducing these kinds of allergies. I'm glad to maybe help be a bit of a guinea pig to maybe get this treatment tested more.

Sound effects/music makes it even harder for me to make out what people are saying. I'm hearing impaired too and I can't make out much of what is said in documentaries, without listening through earphones. Are earphones/headphones a solution that could work for you?

When they said somebody called because of a stabbing I was like why would somebody call an ambulance because of that? I had misunderstood them and I thought they said stubbing as in stubbing your toe...😅

I understand what you mean! in the last year or so I've started with hearing problems. Where I work now there's a lot of talking and they can get very loud. And then there will be radios in different work places. It becomes very agitating. Do you experience any of this agitation or annoyance from this? I was just getting ready to go in and have my hearing checked and then Cobra hit and I keep putting it off. Take care
I am not hearing impaired but I have pretty bad ADHD and Sensory Processing issues, so all of the different combined sounds and varying volume levels (the music and ambient noise is not very well balanced with the speaking) on top of the accents (which I normally would have no issue discerning otherwise) make it very difficult for me to understand what is being said and is happening. CC would be amazing.

As to the show. Doing something like this is against the law. For both the victim,abulance and the hospital. Invasion of privacy is one of them. Most who work or been in hospitals knows about this or should.

Filming an severely injured person (even without publishing it) would be a crime. In addition to that it could actually harm the patient. What if the patient has consumed drugs. Knowing that could be important for a doctor or the paramedics, but he might not admit it in front of a camera.
Without camera a patient can be fairly sure about privacy because a doctor or a paramedic must treat patients information confidential (under threat of criminal punishment and losing his license).

They sign releases and agree to be shown. The show doesn't air in real time!

@@EvilasFUDGE Ok....but they really should have brought the "bed" to him so his body would not be stressed even more. Those EMTs should have gotten written up and re-educated how to properly handle patients with stab wounds.
He was probably in shock, and so the pain hadn’t fully registered yet because he still had adrenaline pumping through his body. So he was able to walk to the ambulance.

Their are people who get into really bad accidents and still walk around with broken necks and backs etc.....I had a patient that had a broken neck just walking around. Put her in C- Collar immediatly. Good thing I did cause her neck was broken....If she were to have moved her neck around....she would have died.

My son was stabbed 3 times with a buck knife. In the liver the diaphragm and the lung. He said it felt like he was kicked with a steel toed boot.

Both of my children were "outside" kids. When my youngest was 5/6 y/o, he was out on his brand new big bike & a few older kids in the neighbourhood made fun of him for wearing his FULL safety equipment. (He is ADHD & _wanted_ to wear it, because he fell a lot while learning.) I'm talking knee & elbow pads, wrist guards & helmet.
When my kiddo came in the very 1st night, he was all upset. I told him this, "They're _only_ making fun of you because their parents have no money to buy them _their own_ safety gear." The next day he told this to those older kids, that picked on him. Within 2 days, guess who ALL had safety gear? 😂😂😂😂😂 This 100% worked!! (Also, for rain gear like boots, coats & splash pants.) 😂😂😂😂 Reverse physiology, was invented for parents to use on their children's bullies. Pure evil genius.

I have a sever tree nut allergy and I can confirm anaphylaxis is absolutely terrifying. I couldn't imagine being allergic to them airborne though, that's another level of scary. My allergy is only contact/ingestion.
It's like someone's slowly squeezing their hands around your throat more and more as time passes, until the point you can no longer get any oxygen.
Epi-pens are important, but they also aren't cheap. I don't carry one and so I'm really careful about what I eat, but it's so easy for something to get contaminated without realizing. I think I'd definitely carry one if my allergy was airborne. Yes, I should have one anyway, I agree. But I've made it 28 years without any issues, so it's easy to get complacent.
I had one too it's scary but so glad when EpiPen is nearby...been be blessed as well, I know the feeling..
For you, and others with the same allergy, I thank you for the reminder. I don't use nuts in ANY cooking, and never carry them. I'm not allergic, but I've seen anaphylaxis, and wouldn't want to put anyone through that!
Yep. I am severely allergic to shellfish and have gone into anaphylaxis due to restaurant negligence (they cooked my food in the same pan as shellfish). It's the scariest thing ever.
This explanation of how it feels makes me damn glad that I just got a weird food intolerance to pork but that won't kill me just hurt a lot when I eat it like lactose intolerance does.
Could also cause me to vomit but that's about it.
I can't imagine having to always double check that I won't accidentally eat something that could kill me.
I've got one too, I ingested a small amount of peanut oil and I broke out in hives and had trouble breathing. Even that was super scary. My last life threatening reaction was when I was 4 or 5.
This has been my favourite thing to watch in between my studying as a break. Gives me extra motivation to continue

I really feel for the man who went into anaphylaxis. Had that happen to me once but it didn't get too far thankfully since I was already at the doctor's office. Still traumatizing though. Airborne peanut allergies are the reason why I never ever eat peanuts out of my house.

My son had this problem one time when he was younger. I was sick as well and we just thought we had a mild case of the flu or something.
After watching this, this is exactly what he had. Thank goodness he passed the next day without having to go to hospital!!

There are such evil people out there that just love to harm others. It's frightening and makes me want to stay home unless it's absolutely necessary to go out. I have seen many things and have had many things happen to me on the streets, luckily I haven't been shot or stabbed but everything else was hell

I have had anaphylactic allergic reaction once. Only once, I am very lucky. I was given a prescription for 2 epi-pens, and told that if it ever happens again, to use both one right after the other, then call for an ambulance. This means I can never enjoy shellfish again, and now I have watched this, I am wondering if my asthma has been acting up so much recently because I live pretty close to a Chinese restaurant. I have lived here about 2 years now, and my asthma has been making life much more unpleasant since I moved here. I thought it was the tree outside my front door or something. I know that restaurant cooks crab legs and shrimp and other shell fish. I guess it's time for me to move. I am rather fond of proper breathing.
You should definitely ask your doc about it, it may well be due to you being so close to the restaurant

The no fish club!! I have never been able to have shellfish but about 15-16 yrs ago it went to all fish. It's bites! When I was about 16 I became allergic to oranges too.
@@cutebutsadisticable I used to be able to eat shell fish, and I loved it! Now I can't even smell shrimp cooking without needing medication. I almost cry about not being able to eat those foods any more! I rarely eat out now because they have to clean the whole kitchen just for my allergy. I don't think it is fair to them, so I stay home and don't order out. The world does not revolve around me.
My goal after this is to get CPR certified and complete a lot of first aid courses. These people are real heroes. Greetings from the US.

Kid didn't cry until his dad showed up, and then asked for his mom. That would have been a red flag for me. Especially with Dad being aggressive when he arrived. JMO
not everything is a red flag when it comes to children crying. children are more predisposition to ask for their mothers when in pain/need and that's just pure fact. and they also cry in company of their parents more often because they feel more protected this way and know there's someone holding the ground now and they don't have to. and the dad didn't get aggressive, probably just shocked or something. put yourself in his shoes and see what you'd do. i think it would've been a red flag if the boy started flinching when dad got closer to help move him into a different position (which he didn't)
So often when kids get injured, they'll be super tough and stoic until a parent shows up and they don't have to be anymore. But they also immediately pick up on the parents' emotions. So when you get parents that can stay calm and rational, the kids tend to stay that way as well. But when parents show up in full panic mode those kids will lose it. So whenever I had that situation I would give the parents something to do. Have them talk to a partner to get all the information, or like the medic did with the dad, actively involve them in the care in some way. It'll help them focus and calm down, and the kid usually calms down as well.
It's if the kid doesn't care if the parent is there, has no reaction to their presence, or doesn't ask for them (obviously not talking about teens afraid to get in trouble here) that I would maybe have some concerns.
I miss working as a paramedic both in the ground ambulance & the air. Also miss working as an ER nurse as well. There was never a dull day.
I have a question because I’m looking to study in the medical field but am I going to be able to spend time with my future wife or future girlfriend and what I’m going for is firefighter or paramedic
@@obi4371 If you are in the US most paramedic programs are actually taught at colleges and are 2yr programs. Firefighter is a bit different as different states & cities run their programs differently. But I think the longest fire academy program I’ve heard of was 6wks. After that it’s all on the job training and working your way up. Of course in places where fire & EMS are combined you will have to complete both unless they hire non-firefighter paramedics. 🤷🏻♀️ hope that helped!
Edit: to be clear…you go to your state fire academy and stay there for the required time. Different ones have different policies on visits and some allow you home on weekends. Just have to check in the state/city you want to work in as each state/big city does their own licensing. Paramedic license are typically good for several states but always check.
@@obi4371 As a firefighter be prepared to miss every important event in your life. Weddings, birthdays, holidays etc. You'll usually work 24hrs straight and then be off for 48hrs. It's a really tough job on relationships. Someone else might have more information, seeing as I am only writing my exams currently and haven't worked in the field.

My oldest son has never owned a bike, motorcycle, or car that he hasn't wrecked. I know how those parents feel.
This is the first episode I have seen. Now I am going to binge watch them all. I love how polite they are. So different from the medics here. But the medics here have good reason to be how they are. Low pay, alot of hours, and people they treat who don't appreciate the hard work that first responders put in. Oh, and these ambulances are stick shifts?! 😂 that doesn't seem safe but it's what everyone drives there I guess.

I love ALL the rescue ,paramedic, emergency shows..they are entertaining, & educational..All the emergency workers are heaven sent in my eyes, I have so much respect & admiration for every one of them in our world..I could never do 1% of what they do to save lives ! I thought Andy was 18-20 yrs old, looks young..im only a few minutes into the show so idk if he ends up being ok so im praying he's ok and makes a full recovery, them gangsters should be ashamed of themselves for stabbing someone, all of them against 1 person is cowardly& pitiful smh..

There is no punishment(besides life or death penalty) or rehab that will fix that
