To jenser94 It is called 'Retiring' a number. You have to have a legendary status in order to retire your jersey number. This only concerns the NBA, it has nothing to do with high school. When you retire a jersey, that number is only retired for the team you played for. So in Mj's case, no one else is allowed to wear 23 on Chicago Bulls. LeBron can wear 23 all he likes, he plays for a different team.
