Out of a 12.5 inch barrel at a 1:3 twist the round will make 4.17 revolutions while inside the barrel. Assuming that the MV is around 1 thousand (because you’re running subsonic) we can say that you’re getting around 250,000 RPM at the muzzle. Furthermore, let’s say that you’re running supersonic. Estimated MV of 2,400 doing the same calculation would get you an estimated RPM of 600,000 at the muzzle. For reference a standard .556 out of a 14.5 inch barrel has an RPM of an estimated 340,875. Almost half the speed of the 8.6.

I wanted a 375 socom for a while. I think it’s an excellent option. Possibly better than an 8.6… but the things that set it apart from 375/458 socom is magazine capacity and twist rate

The idea behind the short gas length is dwell time. The section of barrel forward of the gas port remains pressurized to ensure the action cycles properly before the bullet leaves the bore. Very neat rife. Thanks for covering it.
The supersonic round in that short of a barrel AR would make a hell of a home defense weapon that would serve multiple things. You could hunt, use it for varmints on a ranch, home protection. It seems to be a multi-purpose round and rifle in a semi-automatic compact design.
Watch GT’s vid with the fix by q, rounds were going thru 3 gel blocks like it was nothing. You better be damn certain you have a round that will expand on penetration or impact else it’s going through the whole house, no matter what it hits.
@@got556 Round selection is important and always will be. The whole modern craze of sub-sonic ammo is exactly like back in the black powder days with limited velocity to stay below the Mach means to increase effectiveness (power) you must increase bullet weight. With the 'Holy Black' the propellant does the limiting and is why there were so many huge cartridges firing massively heavy bullets when large game was being hunted. Now with the need to stay below the Mach...the same method of increasing power is being employed...and I find this interesting. What goes around...comes around.
That's why I never got into 300bo for it's effectiveness at supersonic speeds there's nothing I'm going to shoot that a 223 won't handle and suppresed there's not a huge difference. At subsonic ranges which I would consider home defense ranges a 45acp does the same thing but expands reliably without spending a fortune on fancy bullets. I think 300bo is fun out of a bolt action but I just have no need for it. It's not quiet enough from a gas gun to make it interesting
Several videos of Q’s boom box (8.6 honey badger) from shot show. The original videos of the 8.6 from like 5 years ago on kitbadger’s channel had a 12.5 Noveske gas gun. This has been the plan all along for tier 1 units to be performing 8.6 implants in far away lands.

@@MylesKillisWith the extra pressure from a can and a tuned gas system, sure. I never said that it was a good idea. I stated that you could if price and practicality were a concern. You'd have to tailor those loads. Just like the 8.6 BLK was. While I never guaranteed anything and stated that it could, with a 200 gr pill at 1100 fps... a tad over 500 fpe will be like a mid .357 Mag. About 200 fpe less than 8.6 BLK.
I have one with 8" Faxon barrel and love it. An AR10 with an 8" barrel just looks stupid cool. I don't see the point in Faxon's 12" or 16" barrels when the 8" barrel is already capable of going supersonic. If the round serves legitimate purpose, which is debatable, it's only shooting subsonic and suppressed. The fact you can shoot subsonic out past 100 yards and still have a decent amount of energy is awesome. Shooting supersonic 8.6BLK on the other hand makes me no sense when there are so many other cartridges with much better ballistics for a fraction of the cost. You also pretty much have to reload if you want to shoot 8.6BLK. Commercial ammo is pretty much impossible to find, but 6.5 brass is easy to convert and 338 bullets are plentiful.
Micah grows on ya! I didn't really like him when I first saw him on Garand Thumb. I'm an asshole! I like the guy, now. I know he doesn't care, but I'm growing in maturity, I guess. 😛
The idea of this reminds me a lot of the VSS Vintorez or AS VAL in 9x39... its gas is siphoned off just after the bullet starts moving as well. Only big difference is this isn't "integrally" suppressed and is hammer fired. This is a very cool cartridge and I think it will do really good for short range suppressed hunting, really quite near the perfect setup for hunting big game, honestly.
Faxon is the original barrel partner with Kevin and Q for the development of the 8.6. That's why they build a working gun. They have all development knowledge and tooling to build 8.6 on their own. Honestly, Faxon builds good barrels in my limited experience, I have never had an issue.
I went out deer hunting with my homebuilt 8.6 ar-10 and got excited and forgot to record. But I will tell you when that round hit a deer it sounded awful 😂
Twist rate of those calibers aren't the 3-1 the 8.6 is, but should be... The twist rate adds a tremendous amount of kinetic energy that the 458 and 45/70 don't have, but probably should...
Currently I got the 12in Barrell, putting it onto a Aero upper and lower. Waiting on adjustable gas block and handguards. I had to go with the SLR for the length in order to put can on end. Over the last 5 months of carefully buying parts 2 boxes of ammo per month. Learning how to reload.
The 8.6 Blackout is the first new AR I’ve been excited about since the Nemo. Can you buy the barrels and components to put one together, or are they only available as a complete rifle?
Yes these Faxon barrels can work on regular DPMS high or low style receivers, such as Aero receivers. (high or low only matters when matching the receiver with a handguard. It just means the picatinny rail is high or low)
I built one a few months ago with the Faxon barrel. Reloading ammo at home has helped with the cost of ammo but it is still SUPER pricey. Such a fun round.
I built an 8.6 out of a Faxon barrel and Ballistic Advantage/Aero stuff with an Omega 36M. It works great. Ballistic Advantage is working on an 8.6 barrel. They had it at the range at shot show for people to shoot.
It’s definitely not .300blk performance. Not even close lol. The 1:3 twist delivers a 285 grain slug with crazy rotational energy that’s capable of putting down crazy huge game. This is not the case at all with .300blk
@@micahmayfield The 285 grain eld-m load that is subsonic? @1070 fps to be fair to them so 1:3 twist is only 256k RPM which is exactly the same as a regular off the shelf rifle rotation, it only gets the high rotational speed when you are sending it at 2k+ fps their 1:3 vs 1:9 example video is using 300 grain supersonic loads.
Yeah not a single person was expecting the Doom Slayer to enter the chat. Dude made the Rattler look like a toy. What a trooper Scott is just eating brass to the eye lol.
Ouch! He took that hot casing on the eyeball. It's a good thing that wasn't immediately after or during the mag dumps. I'll try to remember this when he shows up wearing glasses the next time.
Here is the basic idea behind 8.6 Blackout. The speed of sound doesn’t care how much your bullet weighs. Stay under 1,100 fps and the bullet is subsonic, regardless of whether it weighs 100 grains or 300 grains. It looks like 300 Blackout subsonic ammunition tops out at 220 grains. 8.6 Blackout subsonic ammo starts at 285 grains and goes up from there. Then there’s the 1:3 twist rate. With the right bullet the results in ballistic gel are pretty amazing. All that said, subsonic .45-70 using a 405 grain bullet is totally doable…

Twist rate of those calibers aren't the 3-1 the 8.6 is, but should be... The twist rate adds a tremendous amount of kinetic energy that the 458 and 45/70 don't have, but probably should...
@@popinmobeat it in what way? Distance? Stopping power? Damage? Accuracy? Cuz the AR10 is usually a bigger round with a longer barrel.
there isnt a need for it when you have rounds like 5.56,.300blk,350 legend,6mm arc and more @@bombomos
45 Raptor: Am I a joke to you?
The 8.6 Blackout is the first new AR I’ve been excited about since the Nemo. Can you buy the barrels and components to put one together, or are they only available as a complete rifle?
Faxxon has barrels, when they’re in stock at least…
@@dsm02c sweet, that’s all I needed to know
I’m not going to lie… there was not a single comment that could’ve actually prepared me for how big Scott is. Holy cow that’s a lot of man! 😳
Bros going to be in debt after this video for sure
Yes these Faxon barrels can work on regular DPMS high or low style receivers, such as Aero receivers. (high or low only matters when matching the receiver with a handguard. It just means the picatinny rail is high or low)
Scott how many IU’s of wheaties you takin?
I built one a few months ago with the Faxon barrel. Reloading ammo at home has helped with the cost of ammo but it is still SUPER pricey. Such a fun round.
Scott took a caseing to the eye like its dust😂😂😂 wear your ppe fr!
I built an 8.6 out of a Faxon barrel and Ballistic Advantage/Aero stuff with an Omega 36M. It works great. Ballistic Advantage is working on an 8.6 barrel. They had it at the range at shot show for people to shoot.
Neat, 300BO performance ,338LM pricing.
Scott wearing Micah's shirt is priceless!
The freeze frame of that dudes face at 8:03 😐
Yeah not a single person was expecting the Doom Slayer to enter the chat. Dude made the Rattler look like a toy.
What a trooper Scott is just eating brass to the eye lol.
"that was really funny, but also dumb"
Can someone tell him that's why we are here?
Ouch! He took that hot casing on the eyeball. It's a good thing that wasn't immediately after or during the mag dumps. I'll try to remember this when he shows up wearing glasses the next time.
first
How are you actually first? The video is less than an hour long and your comment is 8 hours old
Are you the editor?
Lmao
Don't tell them your secrets, just be first every time
I enjoy the great comic relief.
For some reason you also seem to make it educational at least for me.
Keep up the good work.
Thank you
Whatever the rounds , we all need to get proficient and ready for reloading.
Kevin Brittingham performed magic designing the 8.6
That’s why this round will fail. People can’t afford to blow through 556 like before let alone some Gucci round that costs $$$$
Eh maybe, but once more rifles are made for it and more ammo is made cost will come down.
People still love their battle rifles chambered in 308, and they blow through 308 as well.
You’re acting like the average person is financially responsible. That shipped sailed long ago with the introduction of credit cards.
@@samfisherxboxog8925 thank you so much…..I try!
was not prepared how much of an absolute unit Scott was. that small 300 blackout makes him look comically huge.
Dudes definitely a beast that casing hit him right in the eye and he hardly flinched
Second guy straight tryed to eat those cases for breakfast what a beast 🤘shook it off like a mosquito 🦟
bro Scott is an absolute unit
Came for the 8.6 , staying for Scott. #DefNotHomo
8.6 blk is for when scott is running at you in a dark alley.
GQ Armory sells ar-10 based semi auto 8.6 blackout also. They have all barrel lengths available in pistol or SBR format
Scott is the guy she told you not to worry about.
7:30 Scott just ignored that case hitting his temple
Jack Reacher there gets beaned in the eye twice and doesnt say a word. Champ.
