They were absolutely HUGE in Europe, but this was really their only hit in the US, which is funny because it really doesn't sound anything like the rest of their stuff. It doesn't hurt that Nina Persson is one of the most beautiful women ever. And you're right: she kind of "babydolled" her voice for this one. "Erase/Rewind" and "My Favorite Game" will give you a real taste of this band.
The only album I know by The Cardigans is Gran Turismo, from which I would recommend ”Erase/Rewind”. I don’t know why, but the song reminded me of ”Winchester Cathedral” by The New Vaudeville Band back in the 60s, which my sister (and me sometimes) used to attempt to imitate by singing into a plastic beaker. (The Cardigans sound SO much better!) Lex: Next time Brad’s heart gets too rugged play him ”Tonight You Belong to Me” by Patience and Prudence (1956).

The Cardigans early stuff was more of a lounge rock with her sweet sounding vocals often singing about darker subjects. They did a couple Black Sabbath covers, including Iron Man, in that style. Gran Turismo is more of a standard pop rock album, but very good. They also did a great cover of Burning Down The House with Tom Jones sharing the vocal duties.
This is just one facet of the Cardigans - they've got some big rockers too. Nina Persson lends her vocal talent to the Manic Street Preachers track "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough" - well worth a listen.

You could have heard it anywhere (it was pretty popular for a while). It was also featured in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet (Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes). I feel that Lex was on the right track with the song's content... like it's more about being in love with the idea of love because obviously the person she's singing about is not returning her feelings but she doesn't really care because she's a fool for love (hence "Lovefool").
You are forgetting the best place you could have heard it. Jim singing it to annoy Karen in The Office. Because it is impossible to get it out of your head once you hear it.
This is a great band but often underestimated. They started with cute pop covers of Black Sabbath songs. An honest admiration of the band, no joke. The Cardigans are a really great band, but unfortunately most of their catalogue is quite overlooked because of the enormous success of "Lovefool". If you decide to delve deeper in to their oeuvre, I want to warmly recommend their second album Life, which is chock-full of bangers: there is "Carnival", "Gordon's Gardenparty", "Tomorrow", "Fine" and "Hey! In my humble opinion, Life is one of the best albums of all time and certainly one of the finest indie pop albums ever made (ofc also the other Cardigans albums are really good). Giving me 90's roller rink flashbacks.
Enter the 80sssssssss Back to the 80sss
"Whether happen to those guys" Andy from the office
This is one of those songs that get stuck in ur head ... good song but yea
Carnival by The Cardigans should be next
My Favorite Game is their best song, with a great video. Nina Persson is a CUTIE.
I think that Gran Turismo it's a very underrated pearl :) sooo many hits! And their unique style! I love this band!!
If you've seen Romeo & Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio that's probably where you heard this song before
It's a Swedish band. I remember when it came out. Love it. I think you should check out thier new songs
I also like their Burning Down the House cover with Tom Jones.
The Cardigans are from Sweden FYI.
I wouldn't be surprised if y'all have heard this one at some point, this was a huge hit in the late 90's and was used in a lot of movies and TV shows of that era.
The Cardigans are in their own leage. Dark humour and cynicism in a lovely package. You should check their Black Sabbath covers
So, this band also did a few Black Sabbath covers. Check out "War Pigs." Yes, they actually did a few Black Sabbath covers.
...sort of a 70s revival from the 90s...you gotta love the blue eyed blond.(Nina Perrson)..It is a great album ( The First Band on the Moon)...their cover of "Iron Man "is fun...also "Carnival" from the Austin Powers soundtrack is great
From someone who is not really a cardigan fan, loosing my favorite game is something else... specially so the video that is both high production value as well as very dark
