    1.
Silver beads made of tubes, a sliding pendant, and a mosaic of mother-of-pearl inside. Combination of glossy and satin textures, gold with gradient.
From a visual point of view, I was inspired by sculptor Alexander Calder and his collection of jewellery. Gerd Rothmann's approach to jewellery in An Unconventional Dialogue with the Human Body was also impressed. He rethought the traditional forms, functions, and places of wearing jewellery, on the basis of which my pendant appeared without a direct purpose of storage.
And finally, the reference was the Ukrainian traditional decoration - zgarda, in which the beads were brass or copper tubes, which is why some details of my necklace are gilded."

Hi 🤟 My name is Denis and this is my competitive work. It turned out that it is the result of my journey in a yearlong jewellery.
On August 6, 2022, I came to school and from the first step I realized that this was exactly what I wanted. In addition to the opportunity to touch tools, it was the school and Alexander's idea that conquered me. In a year of dedicated work, I understand that everything is still ahead. Step by step, exactly how the pebbles in the ring stand. If it is possible to install one stone well, you can repeat it many more times.
Endless gratitude to Alexander for the right approach and support, to all colleagues from school, because next to you and your curiosity I do and will continue to do. Many thanks to Ukraine for the fact that we all gathered at that time.
Everyone's victory is personal and common for our country 🤟❤"

War kills not only people, but also destroys many works of art from paintings to architectural monuments. So, I was wont to move that beautiful house that I saw to silver until it was destroyed by war, negligence or corrupt new buildings, like several old buildings in Podil.
The house, the architecture of which became the basis for my decoration, is located at 33 Saksaganskoho St., Kyiv. It was designed by Kyiv architect Zechzer Joseph Abramovich at the request of the merchant H.B.B. Groonfain and completed in 1911. Now it has the status of an architectural monument of local importance of Ukraine.
At first, I planned to make a pendant, but later I realized that it would be more interesting to make a decoration - a transformer. So I added a detachable ham to the design that is easy to insert and at the same time fixes the ring well on the finger. Given the small size of the decoration, it was necessary to abandon some of the decorative elements that are on the house and slightly change the appearance of the facade, while retaining its characteristic features.
So, 18 handmade silver elements + 3 grenades + 14 relatively successful rations (and countless unsuccessful ones) + a ton of despair that it does not want to be soldered (especially bothered with attaching towers to the base and lower balls to the bottom of the balconies) and in total the decoration is ready)
    4.
"The inspiration for my work was Renaissance star maps. This decoration is about the ease of rotation of the celestial bodies and about the world in which a person can feel the center, not a small grain of sand on the outskirts of the galaxy.
For the sun, the sunstone is chosen, for the stars - blue aquamarines, reminding me of the sky on a clear day. Pendants are removed and put on, so the decoration is transformed to different situations and wishes of its owner."
    5.
    Polina's miracle flower
Our cultural heritage is undergoing daily destruction due to Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. We have to talk about it, reproduce destroyed art and preserve memory of it.
A miracle flower flickering with 133 tiny green cubic zirkonias is not just a silver pendant. This is a bright memory of the Ukrainian artist-naivist Polina Raiko, whose house and work were tragically destroyed by Russian terrorist troops after the destruction of the Kakhovka dam in Oleshky, Kherson region.
A flower with two luxurious pheasants decorated the bedroom wall next to the artist's bed. After flooding, clay walls depicting a flower fell off. Only some fragments of pheasants were partially preserved.
"The decorations we wear tell stories. The pendant represents the miracle heritage of Pelagia. This is my way to honour the memory of an outstanding Ukrainian artist." - Lisa, a student of the Kyiv Jewelry School.
The life of Pelagia Andreevna Raiko was deeply marked by tragedy, she experienced the unbearable losses of her husband, daughter and son. But the artist found healing in her work. Spending her entire modest pension on paints and brushes, Polina Raiko turned her home into a bright canvas that personified her spirit and fortitude. The artist started creating at the age of 69.
This decoration is a reminder that art may be lost for a while but lives as long as we remember it.
    6.
In this work, I wanted to try to combine things that at first glance do not combine together.
In the bracelet you can see quartz of different colours, amethysts, topaz, onyxes. They all intertwine with each other and create a multi-coloured harmonious picture. And despite the different shapes, cut, transparency, size, and colour, they are all unique and beautiful in their own way, such a parallel can be made with people. Each of us has our own character, potential, destiny, path, but in any case, we are all unique, precious, beautiful, and necessary, and together we can create a beautiful world.
The emphasis is on the ring in yellow and blue colours as a symbol of the Ukrainian people.
You can wear a bracelet and a ring separately; easy separation is provided.
The creation process is quite painstaking and long-lasting. It was not the first time that soldering and fastening were used, but I am satisfied with the result :) ".
    7.
People always try to implement something material, it confirms and strengthens their hopes. A cross, as a symbol of faith in any time. The symbol of salvation and protection from evil.
My house is now occupied, that’s what I have - that’s all I have.
    8.
People always try to translate the immensible into something material, it seems to confirm and strengthen their hopes. Cross as a symbol of faith at any time. Symbol of salvation and protection from evil.
My home is now occupied, so faith is all I have.
The crown of thorns is the crown of the winner and at the same time a symbol of pain and the pinnacle of suffering.
For me, the current has become a symbol that the Saviour knows about our hidden pains, and He can heal us."
    9.
    Lie the beam!
Newton in 1666 decomposed a white beam of light into a spectrum, suggesting that white light has a complex structure, that is, it is a mixture of all the colours of the rainbow.
This decoration is made for a friend who is an important person in my life. I wanted to create a decoration that would convey feelings, words and meanings for which I can't pick up words. I found these meanings in the prism and such a phenomenon as the dispersion of light.
"Prism is an optical element in the form of a multifaceted body made of light-transparent material, which is used to change the direction of propagation of light beams, decomposition of white light into a spectrum, polarization of light, etc.
The property of the prism to decompose light is due to the phenomenon of light dispersion."
"The dispersion of light is the phenomenon of decomposition of light into a spectrum caused by the dependence of the absolute refractive index of the medium on the frequency of the light wave."
Thanks to my friend, I explore my own colours, the colours of my capabilities and the world around me.
And my friend doesn't like to wear jewellery. So, I chose the one that didn't touch his body and served as a game on a sunny day.
    Catch the ray, my friend!"

My idea revolves around creating a pendant that boasts a minimalist and contemporary form while simultaneously interpreting the ancient imagery of our ancestors regarding the Universe. This pendant consists of two hemispheres that replicate the image of the sky and the cosmic dome, representing the heart of the World’s Creation. One of the hemispheres portrays the starry sky, reminiscent of the scattered sand that transformed into stars. The other hemisphere features a more streamlined design, representing the sunny sky. The pendant is meticulously handcrafted from silver. Each hemisphere has a diameter of 32 mm, and the overall height is 17 mm. The rotating mechanism allows for a smooth transition of the pendant from the sunny side to the starry image, providing the opportunity to alter its appearance based on one’s mood. This pendant is my creative interpretation of our cultural heritage, inspired to translate age-old symbolism into a modern context.

The Crown of thorns piece has a so much meaning in this tough times. I like it so much and definitely it has to be worn out. It is a mirror of times piece presented in a elegant way.

A lot of rustic yet contemporary, classic designs. I see great potential from these craftsman. When I look at work of High Jewelry there is not much symmetry; there is more of a refined method of chaos and madness. In an industry that symmetric shapes are so important, it’s nice to see these pieces that are vibrant without being a mirroring balance. 👍

I was so impressed with David's work on that.It was truly a difficult thing to do given that, as you say, they are all beautiful pieces in their own right. Thank you for your input and for tuning in this week. Back next Sunday with the second part of the mechanised ring tutorial - have a great week. 😊

1st piece was extremely interesting. It had a nice flow and a vintage art deco vibe.
2nd piece is just wow. I definitely cant wait to get this good!
3rd piece was very visually appealing. The shape, the stones, the detachable shank.... creativity 100 lol.
4th piece was one of those that would stand out because of how insanely unique yet simple it is. The nylon is such a cool touch. The stars definitely appear to be suspended by gravity!

Hiya, excellent work from all of the entrants. Yes, I, too, loved the Crown of Thorns best. The ring was my second choice, but it was quite contemporary. Thank you for sharing both the work and your views.
    Stay safe, Steve...

Oh yeah and the pave ring at 1 year is absolutely brilliant, I'm only just getting into hand marking and cutting the seats like that and I'm at 3 years of self teaching

Thanks for your comments Jack, good to hear from you and appreciate your perspective. Great to hear you are getting into the set-work, perhaps that's another video for the list (pave-setting) we'll definitely get one up the next time one passes through the workshop. Keep going - I am self-taught and qualified as well and to be honest, we never stop learning (that is my experience in this trade) but it keeps things exciting when I approach them from a place of curiosity. Have a great week!

@@jacothejewelleryes that would be great you are very good at explaining things, there are a view decent videos on pave but there's so many things to consider that is difficult to condense everything into one place.
I'm looking to go to Italy next year to complete a couple of advanced short courses to get some kind of qualifications, as I don't feel the traditional apprenticeships offered in Australia are suited to me anymore. I will always be learning and looking to "apprentice" under someone though, as you say you never stop learning.
