When you're going into the lyrical/conscious rap lane, you must start building your core fanbase before you begin getting thrust into the mainstream. Cordae came into the game and instantly got a co-sign from YBN Nahmir and got put on a pedestal where his skillset wasn't allowed to grow because he had to start producing hits and numbers immediately. Instead of rushing Cordae, the label should have let Cordae grow more organically and develop his song-making ability and storytelling abilities before releasing his debut album. Logic had to do it, Kendrick had to do it, and Cole had to do it. You can't rush the process. Your debut is everything in Hip-Hop.
Your absolutely right. Sadly thats how the game is today... new artist dont even think about a mixtape & building a core fan base... they just aim for hits
No real hip hop fans thought he was the next Cole. That’s just an of the moment thing ppl say when somebody comes around making a similar style of music.
