When you're going into the lyrical/conscious rap lane, you must start building your core fanbase before you begin getting thrust into the mainstream. Cordae came into the game and instantly got a co-sign from YBN Nahmir and got put on a pedestal where his skillset wasn't allowed to grow because he had to start producing hits and numbers immediately. Instead of rushing Cordae, the label should have let Cordae grow more organically and develop his song-making ability and storytelling abilities before releasing his debut album. Logic had to do it, Kendrick had to do it, and Cole had to do it. You can't rush the process. Your debut is everything in Hip-Hop.

No real hip hop fans thought he was the next Cole. That’s just an of the moment thing ppl say when somebody comes around making a similar style of music. I think both his albums are solid, easy going sunday-afternoon type of hip hop albums. “Thousand Words” and “Thornton Street” prolly my favorite songs of his. I think he’ll be jus fine.. it’s only stunted growth if you overhyped his commercial potential to begin with

@@kenyoungmartin2525I agree, he took himself and music to seriously in a sense he thought people would see him above the other rappers his age because he wasn’t really doing drill. But the lyrical approach just came off as artificial, and very formulaic, like Diet Jcole. With his age and voice he could’ve bought back the R&B genre back into mainstream by doing more collabs with commercial singers and trying to be more radio friendly. He seems like someone that’ll fit in the MTV Scene but not someone you would put in your all time rapper list. I think his major blip is he let the masses ostracize him out of his age demographic. Like stated, he had music out before linking with YBN but nobody was listening. The reason for YBN blowing up cause their crew fit hit an of array of “type” rappers. Once he left it kinda showed how an opportunist he seemed & from them to blow up from meeting on a video game would seem dope to the kids of their generation. He don’t even collaborate with anyone of his age like that.

Nobody could be j cole but cordae in the wrong generation if this was the 90s he would be respected like cole but he one of those corny rappers like hopsin logic etc simply put wrong generation no originality just tryna sound like the next man his last album had no skips tho

I don't think he was dubbed as THE NEXT J Cole it was more of "he sounds like J Cole" which there is a difference. I like Cordae but I do think he should have tweaked his style a bit to make his sound more him instead of having a full album of J cole b side beats. He can still turn it around.

He mid and at the end of the day he REALLY got noticed for like low key dissing the nigga he trying to be JUST like and that leaves a bad taste whether people admit it or not. Cole has hit making ability Cordae just a good rapper like JID. Eventually there’ll be another Cole practically but this just wasn’t him

Check out this dude name Aaron May. I discovered him recently & this dude is the CLOSEST I've heard to Cole. From voice, to wordplay. Even easy to look on the eyes. He got a song called "I'm Good Luv, Enjoy" you can't tell me that don't sound & remind you of "Can't Get Enough" by Cole.
