One additional thing I'd mention about the logo is that the 60th anniversary is also know as the diamond anniversary, so RTD bringing back the diamond logo for the show is a nice visual pun.
The way the “Who” lights up its like it’s lined with regeneration energy, which is pretty cool But also, Disney+ is only carrying 60th specials-onwards. HBO Max is still carrying series 1-13. The big deal is that the show is leaving BBC America
That’s my big deal cause bbc America was how I got to see the show now putting it behind a paywall adds an extra expense cause I have cable for the doctor a a few other shows I watch
Well, Doctor who on Disney+ is such a big deal for the Latin American fans. I've been watching it illegally for decades now, just because the BBC didn't have any partnerships with an streaming service to distribute it here.
As an Australian the move to Disney+ is really frustrating. Doctor Who used to air on ABC, which is our publicly funded free tv channel, and was also available to stream post airing on the ABC’s free streaming platform. The ABC has a long history with doctor who; there used to be a doctor who fan show on the abc called Whovians, which would air after each new doctor who episode and would have people discussing the episode and theorising. It was brilliant and I even went along to the recordings of the episodes they filmed to accompany 13’s first series. For that all to be gone and doctor who to now be put behind a paywall is really frustrating. For people in countries where it was already behind a paywall/wasn’t available at all I can see how this is a positive thing, but for us in Australia where doctor who has always been freely available and celebrated/cherished on the ABC, it’s really sad for all that to be lost to Disney+
It's probable that broadcast rights are dealt with separately to streaming rights, so it's still possible ABC will still get to air the show. However Disney might have worked into their exclusivity a clause that there would need to be a delay before that could happen.
My prediction for the 60th is it's going explore Tennant's Doctor/Some Fandoms fear of change and the desire to return to the safety of the familiar past, which NPH's character exploits "I'll give you that life back for a price" leaving the unknown future (Ncuti) trapped inside the Doctor's head, with the Doctor learning to embrace the future, and hand over control. It's a clever way to help people feel at ease with all the new ideas Russell wishes to explore.
Let's be honest, often times when Disney is touching existing property I think, Oh No, they're gonna "Disneyfy it" but Doctor Who is exactly the property that fits in the Disney demographic. It's directed at children but also appeals to a lot of adults and can thereby be a family oriented programming. Which ist basically the essence of the Disney brand.
NOTE: This does also mean that Doctor Who will be coming off of BBC America, which will have a negative impact on those who watched it in the US during initial broadcast instead of through a streaming service. Also while the announcement only mentioned "new" episodes, there is absolutely no reason to believe that Disney+ won't get the back catalog of Series 1-13. Disney plus cost so much. Also First Disney+ plan $7.99/mo which is 95.98 a year. Second plan is $13.99/mo which is 167.88 a year and the third plan $19.99/mo which is 239.88 a year and any of those plans are a lot of money. I do stream Doctor who on You Tube and Amazon prime, but I don't have prime membership and all that is cheaper to watch than Disney+ The price is way to high. It was cheaper to watch it on Amazon Prime and on You Tube.
@@johnmeyer4789 Year but Disney+ cost way to much for me any may other people that now will not be able to see the show. Amazon Prime and You Tube was much cheaper to stream it on.
Although from what I'm told of BBCA's penetration in the US and how they handled broadcasting the show (I forget if BBCA did the 'speed up some parts to fit more commercials in' or if that was syfy and BBCA just did the 'ludicrous amounts of commercials' stuff, I get the impression iTunes purchases of the show was a more reliable indicator of how it was doing in the US prior to it going to HBO Max.
As an American who has been unable to watch Doctor as it premiers after cutting the cable, only when it comes on HBO Max, I am very excited about this. I don’t think people realize how few people across the world are actually able to watch the show as it airs nowadays.
I hope they do more promotional material with ncuti gatwa explaining more baseline Doctor Who info. It will help bring new fans up to speed so they don’t waste old fans time early on.
Wow, I'm polar opposite on the Moffat logo. I find the DW icon to be some genius design. The new neo-70s logo? I'm not sure, might be too retro for me. I think it's the way 'Doctor' is written in that arched box. I dunno, kind of looks like something off old food packaging?
I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t a little nervous about the “creative input” that Disney could have. I wouldn’t want them to strong arm the production to change the tone or a message of a story. I do appreciate the increased accessibility though.
I don't think they'll have any. I'm not sure how it works. But in the UK, it's still airing on the BBC (& the UK exclusive service, BBC iPlayer). I think Disney is just a distributor
@@friendlyotaku9525 Its not about the control; its about the price. Also First Disney+ plan $7.99/mo which is 95.98 a year. Second plan is $13.99/mo which is 167.88 a year and the third plan $19.99/mo which is 239.88 a year and any of those plans are a lot of money. Warner Bros were suppose to be in talks to buy Bad Wolf but that may have fell through with the Discovery merger. Plus the BBC is in poor financial shape. Selling the Doctor Who IP to Disney could fund the BBC drama department for years and Bad wolf could produce more shows. Disney loves that kind of synergy.
Good for the show to get this opportunity to really push into mainstream pop culture again, but I don't know how to feel about the disney+ exclusivity yet. German TV shows DW every Tuesday on one of the publicly funded channels and it's been airing there for years. Every week we come together on twitter and basically do a tweet along under the hashtag HomeForWhovians (we do even get it trending sometimes haha). It's been something I look forward to every week for years. Now I fear we're gonna lose that with the exclusivity of DW on disney+ outside of the UK.
Yeah here in Australia DW airs on the ABC(Australian broadcasting corporation), both reruns and whatever the current episode is. Will be kinda sad to see it go(even if I don’t watch cable TV much I did watch it on TV when I was younger as it was coming out)
Yes. While I can see it may be a positive, the idea that another show has been gobbled up by a single company is concerning. I suppose there's nothing about Disney's child-friendly censors that goes against the Doctor Who setting, but I still worry.
The diamond logo is, imo, the best logo the show has ever had and this looks like a very good modernization of it. Holding off judgement on how it will work in a widescreen context compared to the 4:3 context it was originally designed for until I see it in the opening titles, but for general branding purposes? Fantastic stuff, should look good on the more vertically oriented media such as books and magazines while also looking good on Social Media rather than needing alternate logos for either of those contexts.
Does anyone else remember when the David Tennant era (albeit edited because well... kids watch Disney XD) aired on Disney XD? That was such a surprise (yes, I watched them. The 10th Doctor remains in my top 10 fictional boyfriends of all time).
I remember it and I remember them not finishing David’s first season before either loosing the rights or canceling the airings cause of not getting the viewers being aired on Disney xd and not the main channel
I don't think it needed to be edited, really. Kids watch doctor who live on BBC 1, it was always around 7pm on a Saturday which is prime time for family viewing. Anything sexual is a nod and a wink, and the violence isn't gratuitous
I think its important to note that given the wording D+ is the EXCLUSIVE place outside the uk to watch it...as in it wont be anywhere else, including cable! Lotta folks comparing it to hbomax, but hbo afaik simply released stuff series by series, after it aired on bbc america or abc. Or space channel All three of them have stated doctor who is no longer part of their programming
I feel like they're also marketing it well early. Whittaker's regeneration energy is still floating through the air, Graham's barely finished his cup of tea at the meeting, and they're already promoting the 60th which isn't until November. This makes me think either we're in for a year of pretty heavy promotion and marketing, or we're getting *something* a little sooner. The former is more likely, but I can dream.
From my perspective (Australia), I will now have to pay to watch it as it was on a free to air channel ABC for the past 50 years, the ABC even released a goodbye statement!
Disney does seem to be trying to diversify the branding of Disney+ in general. I think they want to change their branding from "the family brand" to a more general "content for all ages and demographics brand". I think a lot of people tend to think of it as only or mainly worth it if you have kids. It seems like they have been making moves to change that. Im also in ARMY and Kdrama fandoms, and disney have been making a move into that area as well. They even made a deal with bts. I think adding Doctor Who is also part of this.
I dont know what to think about it.... Yes Disney doesnt own Doctor Who, but even IF a small % of the fandom buys D+ to see Doctor Who in the future, Disney makes a lot of money selling D+ and to be honnest, if It becomes a BBC and Disney only show...im out. I will not buy D+ . I just hope amazon germany keep their streaming contract. But mid series 12 they changed it from a 4 hour late to a 4 days!!! late streaming ....
Australians used to be able to watch Doctor Who free-to-air on the ABC. Now, Doctor Who will only be available to those who can afford a Disney+ subscription. As someone who is extremely cynical about big corporations and streaming services which charge more for content which is essentially "rented", I'm disappointed.
I hope they also add the back catalogue of Doctor Who including Series' 1-13, hopefully Classic Seasons 1-26, as well as the spinoffs like Torchwood, Sarah-Jane Adventures and Class. This is probably asking a lot but it would be nice to have the whole catalogue available in one place, and that way if new fans love the show they can check the rest out
Well, this is good news from my perspective. I can only afford one streaming service at a time, and I usually alternate between Netflix and Disney, since they tend to have the stuff I'm most interested in. At times in recent years, I've actually watched pirated Doctor Who on Dailymotion, and Dailymotion is HORRIBLE. Disney will be so much better. Does anybody know if Disney will only be doing new Doctor Who, or will they be streaming the classic ones, too?:
Damn, DW/Bad Wolf getting both Sony AND Disney money now (Bad Wolf is owned by Sony, and I assume the D+ deal here will give some subsidies from Disney towards future seasons)
As someone who doesn’t have cable and lives in America, I’m over the moon. I can’t see this being a bad thing in the slightest for the popularity of the show. Having a D+ subscription is personally much more cost-effective for me than cable is. I imagine that at some point between now and November 2023, the exclusivity that HBO Max has will run out and the entire modern era will move to Disney+. My only hope is that they also add the classic era, since that is especially difficult to find a reliable and easy way to watch.
As a Canadian, we have to watch who through Crave which is truly the worst streaming service/app of them all here. So I'm really excited it's coming to Disney+
I refuse to join in the proliferation of paid services. I dont care to join Disney+ (or HBOMax or Paramount or any other idiot service). Guess no Who for me going forward.
I think the move to Disney+ internationally is a smart move. When you take for example the audience BBC America generates, compared to the audience Disney+ has in the States, it's chalk and cheese. Expanding the show's audience and demographic will be paramount, and given that 'most' fans will already have Disney+ it's as big a deal as the minority of fans are implying. And if Russell is going back down the MCU style Whoniverse with spin offs and multiverses, then the platform is perfect.
Dr Who was free to watch in Australia on ABC for decades until now and this disappoints me as a lot of people do not have compatible devices for Disney+ I do have high hopes for this new season however. I'll just have to watch it through a mobile phone, so I feel incredibly sorry for any older fans who don't even have a phone to watch it with.
Doctor Who being on Disney+ is absolutely such a huge deal, and I think in general it might be well on its way to becoming much more popular in the rest of the world. I’m extremely excited. I’m also hoping that maybe (although I highly doubt it) they might add previous doctor who episodes, maybe through New Who, hopefully (but less likely) classic Who as well. One can hope!
Also First Disney+ plan $7.99/mo which is 95.98 a year. Second plan is $13.99/mo which is 167.88 a year and the third plan $19.99/mo which is 239.88 a year and any of those plans are a lot of money. i was one of them hyped for season 11 with the promos that felt the show wasnt good and i did not watch season 12 and following stuff. the new videos made me intrested again so i will watch the next season and hte specials to come so it seem at least it works, but as good as the promos are, you need a good showrunner and i know i loved davies before so i am on board with it :) also in germany i was basicly unable to watch doctor who without a vpn watching bbc as we have no hbo max so thats also why i lost intrest the availability was HORRIBLE ... honestly since season 1 if u not pirated it and not wanted to buy every episode on amazon u was always years behind
I have very mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, being on Disney+ can only mean great things for Doctor Who's future. I know most of the fan base (myself included) were really worried about it. On the other hand, I am a huge supporter/buyer of physical media and highly concerned what this means in that regard! I do have Disney+, Hulu, and Prime largely through family subscriptions. But after a host of K-dramas being removed from Hulu about 5 years ago, it was apparent I can't trust streaming services. And physical media will likely forever be my go-to.
This may be a simplistic view on my part, but watching the special the other night, I was raging at the insane amount of commercials and horrible editing by BBC America to the point of almost losing my remote by thinking of smashing it on the TV. So if this means that I get to watch DW uncut and without commercials and at the same time it airs on the UK, then welcome to Disney+, my dear show, come in and make yourself comfortable. Some people seem to be concerned with creative input from Disney but as far as I know, they’re only acting as the distributor, besides DW is already the type of family friendly show Disney usually aims for, so why would they interfere. To me this is great news.
Does anyone remember when Doctor Who was airing on Disney Channel back in the day? I remember they took out the swears and started it with a warning about how it could be too scary for young audiences. Good times
I really hope they don't censor it or water down the mature themes or characters like Jack or River, not that Jodies era had much of that, it basically was censored, also not that Doctor Who has ever been super mature, it's pretty family friendly
@@AtomicSim well I mean they have a new mature toggle on and off feature where it hides stuff for more mature audiences so I think they won't censor stuff
I'm no expert on doctor who, but I did grew up with it as a Brit. I'd imagine the Disney deal will defo mean American style session lengths (more episodes), vastly increased budgets, an increased emphasis on story arcs to lock in subscription viewers on Disney plus, and as it'll be produced by Bad Wolf, I think the production values will be very similar to those of 'His Dark Materials'. Whether this deal works will come down to personalities, in terms of those decision makers at the Beeb and Disney. Let's hope Disney continue to recognise the importance of Who's 'britishness' to its audience, not just now...but as the years go by.
we, the legions of fans watching it in pirated way in countries where it hasn't been availabe in a long time, are finally going to watch it legally again
Disney could still add a Doctor Who attraction to the parks without actually owning Doctor Who. The BBC owns the show. Disney would just have to licence the intellectual property from them. A Doctor Who themed land would be just what they need to counter Universal's Harry Potter land.
I remember seeing "Doctor Who" on PBS when I was much younger and as I grew up it just never hit on my geek-dar. As a middle aged adult, I find the possibility of it being on Disney+ a great opportunity to see what it's all about. I'm just wondering if it's going to start from the very first season or just start from the more current seasons. I guess I'll have to wait and see. Maybe I'll become a Who-vian after all!!!!!
The amount they're pushing it already, shows that Disney and RTD have a strong sense of confidence about the quality of the show going forward which is fantastic to see, since its creators haven't done that in a very long time. It makes me happy knowing that my fave show is back in good hands now. Getting the warm fuzzies!
I can see the logic behind this but it hurts me. Ive been a DW fan ever since the late 60's here in Oz which meant that it has always been on our public broadcaster the ABC. The big change this brings for me is it puts DW out of my reach I'm old and on a fixed income I can't afford to pay for steaming thus after 50 yrs I'm not going to access it. About the best I can expect is if after a time episodes go to FTA. This is a pity as it has been a point of bonding for my lad and me.
I totally understand as the aged pension is less than my disability support pension. There is going to be so many people in Australia who survive on or below the poverty line, who will be locked out. The one upside I can see is that younger family members will need to help their older ones if they have a d+ subscription, so more time spent together.
Gotta add, loved turning up accidentally at Disneyland on a “Doctor Who Day” lol, plenty of crossover fans there anyway. Every time I turned around I ran into a number of 10th Doctors, it cracked me up. Nothing to do with this announcement, just found it hilarious. I hope Doctor Who finds new fans, but I also very much hope the first showing of every ep is somehow free to every fan around the world who is very used to that. Anything less would be very wrong to my mind…
You look great!!! The pin is so good with the suit! I do agree about the logo as well, the classic is by far the best! (Disney wants to be involved…DOCTOR WHO IN KINGDOM HEARTS CONFIRMED?!?!)
Honestly, this isn't entirely impossible. Warner Bros. was able to put the 12th doctor into Lego Dimensions and the Daleks into Lego Batman when they were distributing Doctor Who. KH crossover wouldn't be out of the question.
As someone living outside the Commonwealth or USA, the move to Disney+ is a relief. Finally I can watch the show again without having to resort to VPN Client workarounds!
Also First Disney+ plan $7.99/mo which is 95.98 a year. Second plan is $13.99/mo which is 167.88 a year and the third plan $19.99/mo which is 239.88 a year and any of those plans are a lot of money. I do stream Doctor who on You Tube and Amazon prime, but I don't have prime membership and all that is cheaper to watch than Disney+
Question to confirm my understanding: Disney+ will be air/archiving all new Doctor Who episodes (2023 and into the future), but will not have past Doctor Who episodes available to stream (prior to 2023), is that correct? Thanks!
That’s what it looks like with hbo max still having seasons 1-13 of the revival minus power of the doctor the Sarah Jane adventures and torchwood and none of it is slated to be leaving hbo max anytime soon
Also... "Doctor Who...travels...with a HUMAN companion" is how he stated the premise. So no more other alien companions? The idea has been written off completely?? BRING BACK ROMANA.
Living in Canada, I'm actually excited about this deal. Currently Doctor Who is available through one of two ways: CTV Sci Fi channel, or Crave. Both of which are very prohibitive. CTV Sci-Fi can only be accessed through selective cable packages, none of which I have. And Crave costs $20 a month in Canada. Making it the most expensive streaming service in the country.
The Tories actively have their knives out for the BBC… hells, I think RTD even recently mentioned that… so it wouldn’t surprise me if Disney, eventually, does buy Doctor Who. Not today. Not tomorrow. But, yeah, *eventually.* (Disney might just be playing a long-game, here…)
This move doesn't really affect me, as I live in the UK and I presume it's still going to be available on both BBC1 and BBC iPlayer, but it's certainly an interesting move. Disney+ is far bigger than HBO Max, certainly in the UK (though this is the one place where it literally has no impact), so the show's definitely trying to branch out more in other countries. Last notable time that happened was in S6, which I really enjoyed, so this gives me hope for the future of Doctor Who. Really hyped to see what they do in the future!
With the show now having a partnership with Disney+ and no longer with BBC America, I'm curious if we'll get missing episodes animations back, since the reason they stopped was that BBC America was no longer funding them. But with Disney, they are no stranger to funding animation and would give them even more exclusive content for their streaming platform.
It kind of makes sense. Since Disney acquired Marvel and Star Wars they have become like THE place for nerdy geeky media like sci fi and super heroes. It is almost like they are completing the holy trinity of Geek media. Marvel, Star Wars, Doctor Who. Geeky media franchises with large and loyal fandoms who binge watch all the media and buy all the merch. It's kind of a smart move. They know their audiences. Disney is no longer just for kids. It's for everyone.
Wait. So Doctor Who is going to be on three different services? New episodes on Disney+, 1-13 on HBO Max, and Classic Who on Britbox??? My head hurts. I hate television.
Disney plus is an international platform now. I know you're American you only acknowledge America but its gonna have an impact internationally that places where you only found it dubbed on obscure channels or if you signed up for the Amazon BBC IPlayer will now find Doctor Who. Well I am a Whovian I don't have kids I never liked Disney I don't like Marvel or star wars. So I'm going to have to check out how fast they get the episodes and if its worth signing up for Disney plus.
It's basically the same logo as the late Pertwee era logo. As for the D+ stuff. I'm fine with it. D+ is huge and worldwide. We get them around the same time as the UK now. And frankly D+ is more convenient for me and presumably many others. Also Disney shouldn't have any actual influence on the show given this looks like just distribution rights.
I’m super not a fan of the new old logo, like it has potential but the original was not nice to me. It would’ve been nice if they did more to make it different and more in line with new who whilst keeping the idea. I fully get why people like it but a new and old hybrid would have made “new who” heads like myself happy and “classic who” head happy too. Because unless you’ve watched classic this means very little to you (I haven’t watched much of classic, the logo is so meaningless to me 🙁) All that said I’m happy that classic fans get this, it clearly dose mean a lot and it’s a nice and bold call back
As someone who’s just moved from uk to France and iplayer refuses to work on vpn for me, I’m very happy. But if it’s not airing with bbc america that kinda sucks for Americans. Good for any other territory that has Disney plus and previously had no official access though
I've been having to track down access to the episodes, and still haven't watched ANY of the three specials, so I'm excited that it's moving to a service I already have. Better go get caught up!! Do we know if any currently existing episodes will be on Disney+, or only new ones?
I'm trying to get back into the show. I dropped off during Capaldi's era for personal reasons, nothing to do with the show. Getting back in without the time I'd need for a good binge has been hard, but I'm slowly doing it. The move to Disney+ gives me the ability to only pay for one streaming service for the majority of the things I watch. I'm not a fan of another year of specials with Tennant, because the 2009 specials were a low point in the show for me personally, but Donna will get me back watching them anyway.
I think it good that it comes to Disney+ but I'm a little skeptical because Doctor Who is a big Franchise and I just ask myself if all Doctor go in so classic and current Doctor Who so I mean from 1st-14th Doctor Who because just 14th Doctor Who for example wouldn't make sense because imagine it said previously on Doctor Who for example the regeneration then you would say damn I can't see it because it not on Disney+
It's basically the same logo tho. I really like it. It looks great. I think Disney is being extremely smart with Disney+. I stopped watching in the third episode in the Capaldi run and I haven't come back. I will once RTD comes back.
Welp frankly this news kinda sucks. The as an Australian, Doctor Who has always been something that was shown on the ABC. Aside from just being arguably the best channel in the country it was also free. I personally will still be able to watch it as I already steal someone's Disney Plus password but it really sucks that lots of people won't be able to any more. Also I've never really liked the diamond logo so I'm not excited for that to be coming back.
Not liking the new logo,, as said like by meny it like paw patrol Its great it meant to callback to classic era, don't follow them but it great they trying to connecting them, Im googling it as im typing,, its only seem to follow like said, 3rd and 4th dr era,, since 1st there's 15 completely different logos, so its only small bit of the classics they calling to,, should be a different twist on the rtd era, or completely different.. Its great to hear Disney is joining into it, but depends what they do with it, and if they had a hand in the logo,, not keen, like said its looks like paw patrol, too kiddyish- they aiming for kids more going forward,,, If rtd not back,, I might be thinking about bowing out, as I basically was,, if power weren't having the 10th bbc factor i would've Skipt it, I'm excited to see rtd back, Yeah ok Disney don't own it but like with the logo they might want creative input Somethings that was great about rtd episodes they might not want etc,,which was a adult show aimed to kids,, im worried they want to appeal to kids more, like Sarah Jane adventures,, So im skeptical about it,
Is it just New Who seasons that is coming to Disney Plus? Or will Classic Who, the movie, the specials, mini-sodes, An Adventure in Time and Space, etc all be included?
I am glad it's coming to Disney plus in America because I didn't even know the doctor who existed until a friend introduced it to me around when the 12th doctor was in play. And then trying to figure out where to watch, because yes BBC America didn't advertise well and I think I just had basic cable at the time. I am hoping more people in America can be aware of the property because I would love to talk to fans of who in my own neighborhood, so many people don't know about it. Side note love the new logo, but someone mentioned it looked like Paw Patrol logo and now I can't get that association out of my head lol
IMO the cat's eye logo is the worst DW logo of all time. It was literally dated about 3 years before it came out. Bad font, pointless dot in the middle, and *three* lens flares! Nothing says your graphic design is late 90s/early 2000s better than a lens flare.
The move to Disney + really has me bummed out actually. It's going to put a massive barrier up for international viewers to access the show where it was free for view. I don't have the spare money to get a subscription service and I don't know how my elderly parents are going to watch it - they won't be able to get/operate Disney + to save their lives. Mum wasnt happy when i told her yesterday. I hope they do physical & digital releases, but I guarantee I'll be spolied before then. Heck, it was only about 10 hours later when I watched Power of the Doctor and all the major things had been spolied for me, and that was with me ACTIVLY TRYING TO AVOID THEM. I'm thrilled Doctor Who is moving up and new and exciting things are coming, I just worry I won't get to be a part of the show I've watched since it first came back in 2005 anymore. I wish they gave us more transparency on it.
For 57 years its been free in Australia which was accessible for all generations. Going to d+ will lock out a lot of older Australians and also younger ones because of the cost of living Going up
Is classic who stuff and the old modern stuff being streamed on D+ then or will this just be new episodes? While it’s cool that the new stuff is coming. If the entire back catalogue is coming, that will be most excellent. Binge watching the classic era legally would be very very nice without the expensive box sets (as great as those are)
With Disney, I thought this might be about animating the 'missing episodes' and even the 'Big Finish' audio Dr Who episodes. If it were done well, there'd surely be enough content there to keep animators busy for decades.
I do think streaming TV is a big improvement on the previous world of cable television, but man this stuff gets complicated lol. Scrambling to know which content is on what service and what to and to not buy is so hectic
There is no way RTD would let Disney push his run. He called them out for their pathetic representation sometime last year I believe and he loves how the bbc IPs aren’t inherently done to make money. Perhaps after RTD leaves again maybe they’ll consider getting Disney more involved with the creative process but I cannot see him letting Disney walk over him while he’s there.
The death knell of the Dr I'm afraid, it'll get about 5 years as it becomes just another Disney sci-fi show and ends up getting canned because they want something fresher...
Everyone that’s carrying on that’s it’s moving to Disney plus, that’s there not watching Disney plus is not going to care one little bit currently Doctor who airs in about 105 countries when added to Disney plus it’s going to air in over 160 countries. Disney plus will for sure put money into the show but that is also now the case for bbc has they gave up production to bad wolf studios who now have full control over the show.
Personally fell of doctor who during season 6 then tried season 7 then both parts were out then completely dropped it till 2020 I watched the rest up to the end of the 12th doctor then just binged a shit ton of classic I've already seen and some I've not seen which were great but didn't wanna bother with 13th till recently as I've got back into doctor who again since the 14th got announced and Russel coming back to has got me interested
I suppose if Disney finally owns everything, maybe then we won't have to buy 30 different subscriptions to streaming services which each only have one or two decent shows worth watching.
I mean, if Disney acts like an actual business, and the viewership still ends up low, at least they can turn around and get angry at the BBC for wasting their money. Accountability is always good.

I really liked the Chibnal era logo… apart from the Venus symbol at the end… that was a little annoying ngl. I find it so strange how the marketing and promotion of the Whitaker era was all focused on how the doctor was a woman but the show almost never touched on it (arguably in the witch episode but not even then really) I’m rambling now I digress
2013: Netflix 2016: Amazon Prime 2020: HBO Max 2021: AMC+ 2023: Disney+ How many more streaming services will Doctor Who jump to?! This is 5 in a decade!
Amazon Prime and You Tube is cheaper.
I am sadly never going to get to see new episodes of Doctor Who because I refuse to bow down to the dark over lords Disney+ and my heart is broken. F Disney!
I wish the beeb would stop this idioctic yearly gaps probably would help keep at least some of the initial viewers from the searge when the show come back in full swing.
One additional thing I'd mention about the logo is that the 60th anniversary is also know as the diamond anniversary, so RTD bringing back the diamond logo for the show is a nice visual pun.
Oh…that’s clever.
Very clever
Oh that is clever!
He's a clever boy, that RTD...
All my life I’ve watched DW for free (ABC Aus). Now I have to pay for it. That’s kinda disappointing. Still, I’m happy that it will get more exposure.
The way the “Who” lights up its like it’s lined with regeneration energy, which is pretty cool
But also, Disney+ is only carrying 60th specials-onwards. HBO Max is still carrying series 1-13. The big deal is that the show is leaving BBC America
That’s my big deal cause bbc America was how I got to see the show now putting it behind a paywall adds an extra expense cause I have cable for the doctor a a few other shows I watch
What about international release? Doctor Who used to be available on Netflix (at least S5-8) for a long time before being taken off.
It’s on Britbox in a lot of countries

really interesting points- glad to see that DW is finally getting the attention it deserves from the BBC
This is exactly how I feel about the move.
It's probable that broadcast rights are dealt with separately to streaming rights, so it's still possible ABC will still get to air the show. However Disney might have worked into their exclusivity a clause that there would need to be a delay before that could happen.
@@CountScarlioni unfortunately the ABC released a statement saying that any new Doctor Who episodes won’t be airing on ABC at all, which is very sad
I came here to say that and add I’m concerned just how much of our media now passes through the House of Mouse.
@@clairemckinley691 That is very sad then.
If Tennants new last line is something along the line of "I don't want to go, but I have to and that's fine" I will loose my shit
That's such a good idea! I hope that's what it is

It's just a distribution deal so they don't have any creative input. That's all up to RTD and Bad Wolf
I don't think they'll have any. I'm not sure how it works. But in the UK, it's still airing on the BBC (& the UK exclusive service, BBC iPlayer). I think Disney is just a distributor
DW has never crossed PG 13 so it will be fine other wise it would have to be behind the parental control and limited to pin locked accounts

I hope Gatwa is going to wear a Hat like the 4th, 5th and 7th Doctor did with their Costumes.
A Doctor that wears a Fedora would be fun...
This has been an insane week for movie/tv news. I appreciate how hard you're working to keep us all up to date!
Great! Scrooge McDuck as the Doctor and Chip n Dale as his companions.
Does anyone else remember when the David Tennant era (albeit edited because well... kids watch Disney XD) aired on Disney XD? That was such a surprise (yes, I watched them. The 10th Doctor remains in my top 10 fictional boyfriends of all time).
And what’s weird is it happened BEFORE the DuckTales reboot cast was announced
@@DigiRangerScott Coincidence? I think NOT
@@sk8rmouse404 Oh it’s totally a coincidence. Otherwise they would’ve been timelier
I think its important to note that given the wording
D+ is the EXCLUSIVE place outside the uk to watch it...as in it wont be anywhere else, including cable!
Lotta folks comparing it to hbomax, but hbo afaik simply released stuff series by series, after it aired on bbc america or abc. Or space channel
All three of them have stated doctor who is no longer part of their programming
I feel like they're also marketing it well early. Whittaker's regeneration energy is still floating through the air, Graham's barely finished his cup of tea at the meeting, and they're already promoting the 60th which isn't until November. This makes me think either we're in for a year of pretty heavy promotion and marketing, or we're getting *something* a little sooner. The former is more likely, but I can dream.
From my perspective (Australia), I will now have to pay to watch it as it was on a free to air channel ABC for the past 50 years, the ABC even released a goodbye statement!
We had accessible with the abc so its becoming less accessible in our country.
I saw some people comparing the new logo to the logo for PAW Patrol

As a belgian it's was difficult to watch doctor who, but with disney+ it will make it much easier, and also dutch subtitles :)
That’s good to hear, I can’t wait to watch the episodes live with everybody across the world- hopefully Disney Plus offers a live release format.

@@patrickmaginnis7570 i doubt they will have the live episodes worldwide cause they don’t do that with their own shows

Dr Who was free to watch in Australia on ABC for decades until now and this disappoints me as a lot of people do not have compatible devices for Disney+
I do have high hopes for this new season however.

I haven't seen anything that indicates that physical releases won't happen.
The BBC have still been releasing physical media in spite of its prescence on BBC iPlayer, so I'm sure those won't stop
It'll make no difference to physical media releases.
Can’t you like import the box sets from the uk with a region free player?
Doctor who rides at Disney. David Tennant plays Scrooge MC Duck.
Because of Vera, I know more about the actual business machinations around Doctor Who than I actually know about Doctor Who itself lol
I FUCKING LOVE THE NEW LOGO!!
It's so classic era and I'm all about the classic era ever since my baby years.

I've said for YEARS if Doctor Who got Disney'd and ended up in the parks it would be life changing and not just for me. GERONIMO~

But, yeah, *eventually.* (Disney might just be playing a long-game, here…)
Was really hoping that paramount+ got doctor who just so we could get that doctor who/star trek crossover
Because unless you’ve watched classic this means very little to you (I haven’t watched much of classic, the logo is so meaningless to me 🙁)
All that said I’m happy that classic fans get this, it clearly dose mean a lot and it’s a nice and bold call back
As someone who’s just moved from uk to France and iplayer refuses to work on vpn for me, I’m very happy.
Not liking the new logo,, as said like by meny it like paw patrol
Its great it meant to callback to classic era, don't follow them but it great they trying to connecting them,
Im googling it as im typing,, its only seem to follow like said, 3rd and 4th dr era,, since 1st there's 15 completely different logos, so its only small bit of the classics they calling to,, should be a different twist on the rtd era, or completely different..
Its great to hear Disney is joining into it, but depends what they do with it, and if they had a hand in the logo,, not keen, like said its looks like paw patrol, too kiddyish- they aiming for kids more going forward,,,
If rtd not back,, I might be thinking about bowing out, as I basically was,, if power weren't having the 10th bbc factor i would've Skipt it,
I'm excited to see rtd back,
Yeah ok Disney don't own it but like with the logo they might want creative input
Somethings that was great about rtd episodes they might not want etc,,which was a adult show aimed to kids,,
im worried they want to appeal to kids more, like Sarah Jane adventures,,
So im skeptical about it,
Is it just New Who seasons that is coming to Disney Plus?
I remember episodes of DW being on Disney XD a little while back, so...I guess there's precedent?
You missed tennans accent :P
Ok i hope disney wont cripple representation tht rusel could bring to the table,
Or they learned from ow house its good actually :( Hopefully, and that is not too brand that they cant interfere :(. Bcause i really have hopes for davies.
Or the britishness of it, please keep the ritishness, and i dont mean the bigotry but the tone.
An not seen the new logo,i hope its not indicating to ccater to nostalgia and stil tries to be something else, everchanging to the future, not the past, after tennant. And ioik davies logo.
I haven't seen anything about it not being broadcast on CTV Sci-Fi in Canada so hopefully that's still true, although I kind of doubt that.
2013: Netflix
2016: Amazon Prime
2020: HBO Max
2021: AMC+
2023: Disney+
How many more streaming services will Doctor Who jump to?! This is 5 in a decade!
Amazon Prime and You Tube is cheaper.
If you think about it, season 14 is like NuWho2. Bringing back RTD to direct the soft reboot
I'll look forward to your video about your thoughts on David Tennant returning.
Eh, the logo looks like a Playmobil sign to me. It's fine, just looks very plain and blocky to me
If they MCU-ify DW it's definitely the end after chibnalls era. It's in safe hands with Russel t Davies tho chan tho
That new logo is slick! Think it might be the best one yet.
Maybe not own Doctor Who, but perhaps a US-based spin-off only on Disney+?
