Love her and the orchestration is beautiful, but I don’t think the essence song is captured in this performance. The production on the album version hits you hard.
True it's.. Toned down.. But for the masses it's a safe play..
There is always a bit of dissonance between a live performance and a controlled recording. Sometimes one isn't feeling the emotion as strongly as they did in a prior performance, others perform worse in public vie, and sometimes it's just the room and sound setup being a bit off.
All this does is mean that there will always be a version by the same singer that will be cherished more over another.

Contaminated is one of my Favourite songs of her latest album. I don't think this performance was perfect but I'm glad to see her on Colbert and I wish her all the best for the tour and everything. Now all I want is for her to finally perform Alaska cause that song slays!

The tempo is all nervous at +5BPM compared to the original... and one of the violinists is off key af... that being said the song and the singing is incredible.
You mean she added +5BPM? Probably to compensate the nerves that would get in the way of breathing... And she made a wise choice cause she was clearly nervous!

they probably made it faster because it’s a long song and it’s on tv so they have to keep within the times
Performers are typically given a 3 - 4 min time slot. With songs longer than that, like this one, performers have the choice between speeding up the song or cutting a verse. She clearly to chose to speed it up.
So far, I am yet to see a solid performance of this song. Banks knows it, but the different musicians keep changing, and it's a tough one to play live, clearly. Eek.
3:18-3:47 made my eyes watery! Her voice is so beautiful
you could tell she was a little nervous at the beginning but as the song progressed she loosened up and did a great job

First time hearing of her. She’s got an interesting voice. I didn’t really understand all of the words. But I could definitely stand to hear some more.
Quantity over quality. Also an unmemorable umm "song". She could use some vocal discipline. To include every vocalization that you know how to make in one song is a waste talents. They should be given out like Little Gems inside of wonderful songs. She needs some good songwriters. And not to mention over producing does not help sell a vocalist although most people would argue with that. Just look at Adele

Beautiful queen! Look let me tell you something she was holding back. She could have went off. This is currently one of my favorite Banks songs. I have followed her since her first album release and I saw her in concert for the first time in Brooklyn last saturday. In my opinion, her vocals were strong as always but she was a little nervous here. I think what it is is that she might be more comfortable perfoming for her fans who she knows love her and appreciate/understand her art. Especially because she writes her own music and the songs are deeply personal to her. When she performed on Saturday she was definitely more confident. Obviously we were gasing her up like the queen that she is but still, she was home. She's still human and allowed to be a little nervous/shaky guys. Anyways I'm proud of her and some of y'all are not deserving of her art.

She wanted to showcase her voice. It’s not perfect, it’s decent, but the way her voice sounds at the end makes me smile knowing that she’s not all auto tune.
The strings didn’t really support or add anything to the overall production in this performance. I prefer the album version because the simple production reflects the solemn message of the song. Maybe if the strings weren’t as busy (for lack of a better term), it would have added something to this performance but I don’t think it helped at all. And one of them was extremely off key but yeah if anything, it took away from it.
I really loved her billboard live performance of this song.
The production on the album is not at all simple lol and it only enhances her words rather than taking away from her voice, but I agree that this arrangement wasn't the best. It's not how she's been performing it on tour so I wonder why they went down this route.
Z H I think in retrospect, “simple” was the wrong adjective. In comparison to songs like “Till Now” and “Gimme”, the production is more stripped. It’s not as uptempo and chaotic lol
But I’m sticking with what I said about how it takes away from her performance. It’s either because I’m so used to the album version or it might be because of the one violin that’s off key. Or both.
