  • This week I made a silver ring with a skull. Beautiful does not mean complicated. You can buy it or the one without the skull here: bonnfactory.ru...
    Watch the process. It looks easy but the result came out very cool. I used sterling silver for this unique jewelry piece.
    Thank you and see you next week.

    Damn that’s such a clever idea of a way to start off with a perfectly sized ring, the amount of time I’ve spent hollowing out chunks of wax

      most of the steps he’s taking are convenient but unnecessary. you can make the wax out of hot glue sticks and candles or crayons. you can make your mold in some sand and you can melt your metal in a little claw bowl with a torch as long as your using metals with a melting temperature that’s pretty low :)

    This is a great video! I have a question though. When you're wire brushing the ring could you go horizontally along the band and leave the wood grain raw cast in the grooves to create more of a difference? Or does it come out looking poorly? I realize it would take more time but I was curious about it.

    Love your videos! Hope you can take the time to Asker a question. What kind of a silicone do you use that can handle that kind of heat?

    • @sheldonrossouw5207
      @sheldonrossouw5207 2 года назад +1

      It's not silicone, he goes from a jewelry carving wax (these waxes vary in terms of melting points and hardnesses, some have a very rubberized feel, some work better for ring carvings than others) after his done carving the wax he goes straight to an investment mold, and the wax is melted out to give you a negative mold where the metal is poured into.
      Some silicones can withstand a certain range of heat but I would stay away from that for safety reasons
      (Using investment molds are safer for high temp metals), in terms of whatever is hot might spill out of a silicone mold if not properly sealed.
      Silicones are good for resin castings or castings you want to easily remove, basically epoxies and concrete, etc.
      If you really want to use silicone for metalwork then try: Mold Max 60. I'm not sure on the range of materials you can cast with this silicone you will have to do some research on it, but I do know it's good for casting pewter.
      If you do make a mold max 60 mold then make sure you inspect the mold before using it again, a more heat resistant silicon is usually more brittle so be careful.
