During the solemnisation, other than the father of the bride, there must be 2 witnesses to witness what the bride say, it must loud and clear. As for the presents, it is always given in 5, 7 or 9 or 11 or in uneven numbers and the bride has to match by giving xtra 2. Example if the groom gives 7 than the bride must match it by 7

I reckon they must be from a well to do family. The residential area of the bride family looks like a middle-class housing complex.
The whole arrays of 'hantaran' or wedding gifts look expensive. The decoration, arrangement and design inside the house for the 'nikah' or solemnisation ceremony is quite elaborate. The aesthetics presented is Malay in essence.
It seems that the family still care for the Malay customs, traditions and heritage with all the Malay style of embroidery on the wedding ornaments and 'songket' weaving on the traditional Malay dress, 'kebaya' and 'baju Melayu' attire, 'tanjak' or 'tengkolok' (the male headgear) complete with the traditional Malay musical troupe - it's really charming and refine. The music played is what traditional Malay melody essentially sounds.
It's beautiful and amazing because even though the family is obviously from a Malay middle-class, urban and modern family but they still manage to keep the Malay customs, traditions and heritage intact. Thumbs up for the family and congratulations to both the beautiful bride and groom.

Weddings are not a private event (for malays). We normally invite all of our relatives, neighbours, colleagues and friends (of both parents' and bride/groom). The invitation card sent out usually around 1000/1500 and the expected guest around 3000 people. This is for the reception. The solemnization (as in the video) is normally for family n close friends (around 80-100guests)

The day they're married, we called the bride and the groom as "Raja Sehari" or "King/Queen of the day". That's why they wearing like a king and a queen and on that special day all their needs will be served as a king and a queen. They will sit on the cinema or "pelamin" and all guest will celebrate them with joy... u guys was so lucky enough for the invitation on their solemnisation because that occasion usually for the family's members only or special person. On the day of wedding then they will invites everybody to come to their wedding celebration. Loves to see both of you girls back to Malaysia...

Instead of wearing the traditional national clothing for special occasions (Barong and Maria Clara dress), they rather wear tuxedos and gowns.

Congratulations to the bride and groom, and you guys did an amazing job with this video! However i just wanted to point out in case someone takes offence to this because of incorrect wording. Wali does not actually mean an elder person who 'previously owned the girl'. It means the person who was previously responsible for the woman before the groom agrees to take on that responsibility. So the wali can be the father, grandfather, brother, uncle, etc.
Anyway, you girls are gorgeous and the video is great. Cheers!

Wow congratulations to the couples and your first experience of Malay wedding.. in any case you may find some variation of Malay wedding differ by states and local traditions.. the one you attended is the simplest version mostly done by all new couples nowadays which is akad/solemnization/recital of vows and afterwards a simple wedding service with buffet dinner... the wedding service traditionally are done on different days on 2 separate occasions whereby there will be one done by the bride side and the other by the groom side.. some Malay wedding may have ceremonies for days (up to 7 days) with berinai (painting of hands-the red coloured henna),flower bath and different change of clothings.. the food varieties will differ if a more localised menu is served and in some area (in kampung/village) people gather up to cook the wedding meals together.. and on the way to the house the group of wedding reception will do the ber-arak/family and relatives walking together with kompang to the bride house and on arrival some groom are challenged with poetry/pantun before being allowed to enter the house of the bride during wedding service.. afterewards during the wedding service you can observe the bersanding/where the bride and bridegroom sit together at the decorated altar/pelamin and the parents and close relatives (usually the family elders) will meet the bride and groom at the pelamin to give blessing by sprinkling rose water (merenjis).. then there will be makan beradab where the bride and groom sits together to dine with the family elders at one long table while the rest of the guests eats with family and friends either buffet or served.. some modern version of cake cutting is also common but usually there is pulut kuning/ yellow glutinous cake served.. entertainment wise you can see the silat/ a form of Malay martial art, traditional dances and joget, traditional music karaoke, traditional instruments played like ghazal (like the one on this ceremony).. hope you really enjoyed the wedding receptioan and perhaps more wedding invitation in the future

The solemnisation looks amazing! The use of songket in her dulangs looked beautifulll! We all love wedding foods 😂 Cliché but we’ll never get bored!
just to let you guys know, solemnization is to officially marrying the couple while reception is for the “real” celebration, we invite not only our friends but pretty much everyone we know 😂 reception can go up to 1000-2500 people 🤣

You know what's the best part of having different religions in your family? You get to experience different wedding culture. I love my family's Muslim part wedding. Although I still need to help them out but I always get to eat a lot of food. Like a lot a lot.

In Islam, the “wali” is the guardian of the bride 👰 (father, uncle, brother, grandpa). In the case of the muslim converts bride that non in the family are muslims.... the imam will be the wali(guardian).

2:55 Correct, the person who gives away the bride is "wali". But the cousin's explanation of "wali" as the one who owned the bride was off the mark, quite understandable on the spur of the moment. "Wali" is borrowed word from Arabic which literally means "guardian". The heirarchy for guardian is father, paternal uncle and brother. If no guardian available (due to death or being untraceable), the guardian is the state authority represented by the wedding priest.
10:15 Do I hear right, from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm? Most unusual, never heard of it. The ones I attended, quite a few, or heard of went on for six hours at most.
