  • Hello knitting friends! This video will show you how to make a double decrease. Double decreases turn three stitches into one. There are many types of double decreases, and this particular double decrease results in a raised ridge in the centre of the decrease. It is worked by slipping two stitches together knitwise, knitting the next stitch and then passing the two slipped stitches over.
    Happy knitting!

    I have done and undone my work about 20 times because my pattern read like this.... sl 2tog, k1, p2sso. So I was slipping 1, knitting 2 tog, k1 p2sso. Until I could see how the video had written it like this....SL2tog, k1, p2sso !!!!!! Once I seen it written that way, I knew exactly how to do it !!! So please can someone tell King Cole pattern No 7159 how these stitches should be correctly written down... So confusing their way. Thank you Patricia Jones.

      This is the way I knit. It’s just an alternative way of holding the right needle in England. Watch any old English film from the 1940’s where there are women knitting and you will see that this the the way the knitting pin is held. The knitting pin rests on the crook between the thumb and the index finger so the knitter doesn’t have to let go of the knitting pin to make a stitch. I hope that helps! Not sure I explained it well!

    Is there a decrease for the middle that doesn't leave that rib? Cause I need to make a cupping shape like that but maintain the stockinette look.

    On the wrong side of stockinette, do you then slip them purlwise and purl together, or keep slipping knitwise and knitting together? Thanks for the tutorial!

    Thank you for making this video! I am making a hat that uses this double decrease and I was having trouble with it, but now it will be no problem. The video was very easy to see and the volume was good. Very nice and helpful.

    Since I came here to learn one stitch, I expected to see what's in the title: to learn the stitch. Instead you prattle on, and I can't even decide when you are doing the stitch I need for my knitting.
    Lady, in the future, if you are showing a stitch, state clearly what stitch you are doing, and show it to us right away. You can prattle later, if someone's interested they will watch, but those who just want to see the stitch will not downvote you like I just did now.

      Wow! You're agressive! Maybe you should learn how to watch and listen since the video is very clear and the stitch is a double decrease as she says it in the video!

    • @viridian4388
      @viridian4388 8 лет назад

      +Emily Schons Aggressive would be calling her names. I called her "lady". My comment did not contain a single swearword. This is honest critique about a badly executed tutorial.
      I did watch and listen, but my problem is, it takes about five seconds to do the stitch, ten in slow motion, tops. It can be repeated multiple times, but prattling on about how it looks in 3D and whatnot is not what I came to see. Just show the finished stitch for 5 seconds, then move on. If someone wants to study it, they can pause the video.
      If someone got to this stitch, has to learn to do it, it means they have a couple of stitches already on the needle to work with, there is no need to show how one does normal stitches. It's redundant. The stitch begins at 00:53. Not at the beginning, no. Not like the tutorial is named "sl2tof, k1, p2sso"... oh wait.
      Furthermore, if a tutorial is labelled as teaching X, you do not call it Y when doing the actual showing. You say "Hello (I'm *** is optional), I will now show you how to do X." And then proceed to do X. Without other things.
      If one wishes to do other things like chatting at the audience, show off works, talk about the weather, they are welcome to, but they might want to include it in the description, title, etc, and they would want to mention when the actual stitch they are supposed to show happens.
      Thing is, after this tutorial, I have found one that does just that. Good tutorials exist, and the problem is that some people just slap something together, put it online and expect people to love it. Good tutorials take effort. And editing. And decent labelling.
