Absolutely loving this series Ben 💚 Glad you are having an amazing time and everyone seems so friendly 😄 The Kenyan athletes are out of this world 🙌 Thank you for taking us along on your journey and experience 🙏
Interesting insights on the fartleks which really emphasize hard days being hard. 95% effort is tremendously hard. Definitely recovery is important after that many rounds especially on hilly terrain.
All sounds like how club running was in the 70's 80's. Fartlek 9/10 miles in groups of 10-15 of similar abilities on Tuesday & Thursday. Enormous multi level group on Sunday of 12 to 20miles run in the woods or across fields with as much off road as possible - last 5miles were every man for himself as fast as you could manage. Loads of hills in those. All year round.
so great to follow along here; props for sticking with the fartlek 11x ... channeling Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York ("The blood stays on the blade"): The dust stays on the shoes
Very cool experience. Thanks for the breakdown and insights. The Kenyan approach is so interesting compared to the typical solo training that most of us casual runners undertake. Gonna look for groups to train with.
I have been watching your channel for awhile now and this Kenya trip is the best I have seen. Great content keep it up Would be great to see you up in Suffolk
Hey Ben, enjoying the content! Btw you should get some glasses retainers for your glasses, save you pushing them up your head every 10 seconds 😆They don't look cool but my god makes running with glasses so much better.
Thank you for sharing this amazing experience. I am the base building phase for 2023 and I like that 3 week rotation of fartleks. Will incorporate starting next week as this is a down week. The train in Kenya experience is officially on my list and would be amazing trip as a first on the continent.
Interesting about how they build, and blow up in workouts as they try to keep up with the main group. I think that is applicable for younger runners too HS, etc.
Hi @Ben Is Running, great series, and thanks for sharing the lessons. You mentioned that many athletes would push to stay with the front group until they couldn't. I'm curious what happens when they snap? Say an athlete goes to the well to stay with a group and is hitting maximum exertion on the 8th or 9th pick-up of 13. On the next pick-up they simply cannot physically stay with the group. Is their session over? Are they slowing drastically? What is their response? In my own training, I also push hard to stay with the front group, but I find that I sometimes fade quickly in the later stages of a workout or even end the workout early as a result. Would be great to hear your thoughts on this!
Frame those Alpha's in a glass box for display and never wear them again!! 😅🤣 Great series, probably my favourite episode so far, their Fartlek seems very tough!!
Ben, seen a few of your vids and am enjoying the journey! Your running form is beautiful. Did you do anything in particular to get it there or has it always come naturally?
@@jennysmith8835 under the ofcom advertisment standard (the relevant laws and policies for Ben) it'd need to be disclosed every time, it's not enough to say in vlog1 that the trip was gifted and then move on.
A “Fartlek” is an unstructured “speed play”. The intervals are of random lengths and paces. This is simply an interval session. The only thing Kenyan about it is that it was run in Kenya. Still, kudos for hitting a decent pace although not yet acclimatised properly. This would be easy for you back in the UK.
I was thinking the same. A real fartlek is something completely different. And for myself when I dont run at the track I run almost every time in minutes and not in distance. My focus is than more at my effort than to think how far I still have to run... something like that!
Ben mate, what is their relationship with European runners, are they underlooking us and are they being overly confident about themselves? I sometimes get the feeling that it is Kenyan's and everybody else in their attitude
You r a talanted runner ben no doat about that first stop using that camera like girl to make some progress and get a laser treatment to throw away does glasses as they r taking away from your time of running adjusting them constatly in your game every second matters
That's a true souvenir right there! Some Iten dust in your Alphaflys is a nice reminder of the experience 🙌
Happy to see you enjoy your stay in our Country... Learn some swahili while at it... 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
Not a “BAHHHD” video, Ben! Great once in a lifetime experience.
Absolutely loving this series Ben 💚 Glad you are having an amazing time and everyone seems so friendly 😄 The Kenyan athletes are out of this world 🙌 Thank you for taking us along on your journey and experience 🙏
I hope the sheep gets her invitation to be the first guest on the podcast
Wow, another Kenya experience here! Appreciate it Ben!😍

That lamb really taking the piss here 😂 Great vid Ben, absolutely loving the series! Those fartleks look like no joke 😓
Yes the Power of the group seems key.

Utterly fascinating series you’re putting together Ben! Keep up the good work!
the sheep😁👍 enjoy your time, Ben!
All I can say is THANKS and CONGRATULATIONS Ben!

Really liking this series so far!
Thanks for sharing your trip experience!

Great content keep it up
Would be great to see you up in Suffolk
That’s a really interesting variable, your second to last point. And something any of us can try down at our clubs for a few weeks.

Brilliant series - really enjoying it

Great insights, session looked brutal Well done 👏
I wish I knew you were coming to Nakuru. I usually do my 1k reps on the last stretch to the National park. Anyway Thank you for visiting
Great series Ben, I'm learning along with you, keep it coming, thank you.
Thank you for all your daily inspiration! Enjoying it immensely! 🙏
Day 1: food is bland here
Day 5: soaking it in syrup 🤣
Looks great out there!
Love watching , i was there last year and come back this summer. Fartlek is realy tough. You r sure it was a sheep?
loving you kenya series and experience, man! amazing!
Awesome content 🎉
Well done on what seems to have been a hard but great session!
Awesome video, great to have some tips from the pros!
Loving this series Ben. Keep up the great content
Loving this series 👍

That would be a sick colorway for the Alphaflys
Freal, a nude pink colorway would be sick and fashionable
Brill Ben, what a experience mate 🙌🙌
The red Kenyan dirt should be part of the Alphafly's design.
Really interesting!
Another great video Ben, looking a bit sunburnt this time?
Those Alphafly’s are quite the souvenir now. I don’t think I would clean them either.

Is this really a fartlek though? Isn't it interval instead? Either way, can't wait to see how this Kenya experience improves your speed overall.
Amazing series so far! What types of shoes are the locals wearing during these training sessions?
Frame those Alpha's in a glass box for display and never wear them again!! 😅🤣

The Alphafly look 100x better after
Looks like you may have needed your contacts on your run. I totally get slipping glasses!
Good call! I forgot this day :)
Iten is probably the only place in the world where most of the tourists are more interested in pain than pleasure 😄
Is this like a group tour your attending where you just meet up and run? Exhausting with such a big group imo
Ben those sunnies did not like they were staying on haha
Good man 😎👍🤞
Sorry about the 🐑 😂😂😂 love this series
Hills are your friend!? ⛰️
I’m interested in Kenya how hard is the minute off in the Fartlek? Is it a fast float, jog or walk?
Needs to be explicit in the video that this trip was sponsored or it's a paid promotion. Love the vlogs so far
it has already been mentioned
@@jennysmith8835 under the ofcom advertisment standard (the relevant laws and policies for Ben) it'd need to be disclosed every time, it's not enough to say in vlog1 that the trip was gifted and then move on.
Some straps to your glasses would help some during that fartlek. Way to go Ben
Was it a sheep or more probably a goat 🐐.
Good content as usual.
What the experience level or diversity of paces of the participants? Asking for a 3:06 marathoner friend. 😉
👍
How come you’re training already if you said that it takes 1 week to get your body used to altitude?
Them Kenyans have the right idea, there isnt a alphafly, whoop strap, backward cap or set of triathlon glasses amongst them
There's actually a tonne of Alpha and Vaporflys. Maybe not here but in general.
The true star of this episode being the sheep😂

The main lesson I took from that was BAHHHHHHHHHH

Great insights Ben. Really enjoying what you're capturing out in Kenya. I'm a big fan of fartlek, really like it as a more playful form of speedwork.
