    April 13, 2023.
    I have not forgotten you. I want to buy a trike , but I am waiting for the money to arrive. I had a deprived childhood because I could not ride a bike (no balance). There were no tricycles larger than toddler size. I am now 75 years old. Now I can have my bike, although with three wheels and an electric motor. Thank you for providing it.

    In December and January, I bought two XP 3.0's. One for my wife. After further review, I ordered this trike yesterday. She hasn't ridden a bicycle in over fifty years and that had a coaster brake. That fact made me consider the Rad, but the price and front wheel motor told me to stick with Lectric. Your review made the choice easy, and I did use your link.

    I'm a 69 year old gentleman who is very overweight and in a couple of months, I was thinking about buying a XP Step Thru 3.0. But now I am completely in love, like a little puppy, with this trike! I have mobility issues so this will be even better than the 3.0 because the threshold to swing my leg over is even lower than the 2.0 or 3.0 Step Thru's. I'm going to save a little more and give myself the gift of buying this wonderful and beautiful Lectric Trike. Lectric is doing fantastic! Thank you people. Love it!!!

    You all are by far the BEST ebike review channel on RUclips. I'm in the market for a etrike. I think I am representative of the target market for this trike: a little older, a little larger, not as fit as I used to be, but want to get out and enjoy my walk and ride friendly community. When I was younger, I used to be a pretty into mountain biking and always wanted the latest innovation, and thus additional cost (last two bikes were a Cannondale Raven first gen with carbon fiber frame and aluminum spine, and a Cannondale Raven 2nd gen with thermoplastic frame with magnesium spine. My point being that the price point for this Lectric XP Trike is about the same as what I paid for just one of these Cannondale's back in the late 90's. Considering the specs, to me, this is a bargain. If the Mrs. gives me the go, will definitely go through your link😉 Keep up the great content!.

    Great to see Lectric compete in trikes. Love the competition, especially for price. I’m a bit leery of the tipping on two wheels when turning though. I hope that can be stabilized. I would imagine many people that would buy these would be elderly or those with mobility issues.

    • @rich12072
      @rich12072 Год назад +1

      I haven't rode one of these yet, but have watched other trike brands/models being ridden in other RUclips videos. It appears this tipping on two rear wheels is a concern with trikes in general. I've seen videos that explain how to ride trikes when turning and they demonstrate how to avoid or greatly minimize the likelihood of such tipping up on two wheels. Mainly, the strategy I've seen is to lean into the turn, not opposite the turn, and to slow down enough before starting the turn. Probably practice under various conditions will help the rider determine what slower speeds will work best while turning. Good luck on your search for a sufficiently stable electric trike.

    • @reacguru
      @reacguru Год назад +3

      Trikes do not tip over half as easily as people think. All you need to do is put most of your weight on the inside pedal as you turn. You don't want to make tight right angle turns, but you don't do that on a two wheeled either. Think about how low to the ground your pedals are. Imagine putting 100 or 150 pounds of weight that low to the ground on the inside of a turn by half standing on the pedal. This lowers the center of gravity drastically.

    This is nice looking package. Forget what this guys says about this being a "mobility" device, like wheelchair. Trikes are fun for anyone. If you live in a neighborhood situation where you might consider having a golf cart, and trike is an alternative. Most adult trikes are one wheel drive and the motor is usually on the front wheel, so this has some very substantial advantages. Trikes are much more stable than most people who have never used one will assume. My wife and I both ride electric trikes - we've got several two wheel bikes and three electric trikes. Electric trikes are lots of fun and make a great neighborhood vehicle for hauling groceries, art supplies, camera equipment, swimming pool gear like towels and beverages, etc. IF you want to corner at higher speeds, you just put your weight on the pedal to the inside of the turn. If you think about it, once you've put a lot of weight that low to the ground, the trike has a pretty low center of gravity. However, probably 3 out of 4 people who get on a trike for the first time experience a lot of anxiety. The more accustomed you are to bicycling, the more likely it is you might be afraid to make a turn without being able to bank or lean into the turn. On a trike, you just shift your weight on the seat for slow turns and support your weight on the inside pedal instead of the seat when you are making faster turns.

    You hit a couple of key points with this trike & I'll see if I can remember them all. 1. Congratulations on that amazing price point. A trike with that many features will be the bench mark others will have to compete against. 2. Choice of tires. Completely agree. The 2.6 street tires & tubes will not only roll better, they are a much more sensible choice for this style of trike which are not stable on uneven off road conditions & should be far cheaper to replace. 3. The folding feature should make it a little easier to load or store into vehicles. 4. Great choice on making it a true Mid Motor with rear wheel drive. Far better & no torque steer from the front wheel motor types. 5. Differential, still amazed that it comes with 2 wheel drive for better cornering, handling & traction. I would make one suggestion change the handlebar adjustment from bolts to quick releases to make it easier for other family members to also use the trike.

    As long as the Trike rider slows down to 6 mph or less when making sharp turns, no problems.
    I purchased a helmet with a back red flasher and a white flasher for the front of the helmet. I bought signal lights and an extra bright light for the front handlebar.
    I purchased a high Vis waterproof coat. A 6’ high high vis flag. Also a high vis vest for the warmer days.
    The helmet I got is not a full face one (which it should be). But I did get the safest absorbing helmet likely on the market.
    I got specialized gloves protecting the palms and knuckles. They are full gloves trying to prevent the “FOOSH” (fully opened outstretched hand) injuries.
    I will not over ride the coding to make the Trike go past 14 mph.
    Lastly, I’ll carry a good first aid kit and cell phone in case of accidental injuries.
    I looked at countless You Tube videos on the Lectric XP Trike and decided on its purchase. I’m a retired paramedical college professor and have seen many traumatic injuries in the field. There is certainly risk to riding the Trike, but following Lectric’s recommendations, risks are minimal to my 70 year old body. Yes, time will tell and I’m looking forward to my Trike arriving this May.

      See my problems with this etrike (mentioned in another comment on this thread). This is the most unstable-feeling thing I have ever ridden on, and I feel the center of gravity is just too high. Any horizontal slope at all and you feel like you are tipping over and the trike wants to pull into that slope. It feels like you are fighting it to even stay on the road.
      I see there are lots of positive reviews, so I will get on this thing again and see if I can make it work--before I take it to the dump!
      I dread even getting back on it because it feels like I am going to tip over. (And I have already ended up in the ditch once--just trying to go straight, not turning or going fast!) Heaven help me if I even try to make a turn on a road in my Tennessee neighborhood!
      My husband also felt very unstable on this, and he is an excellent bike rider. He said it feels like the seat is leaning to the right and so you have to fight the trike to keep upright. He wonders if there were a way to make the seat stay level--even if there is a slope, because you are fighting to lean into the slope, but the seat is staying parallel to the frame. (I don't know if I am explaining this well. I just think some folks need to go back to the drawing board )

Because of the wider spaced rear tires it is VERY hard to bring outside/inside a normal exterior door of a house. You would need to keep this in a garage or just leave it outside when not in use.

    Lectric e-Trike is one of the VERY few to get it right . Most companies use a front motor that's pretty worthless, I always tell people to use a mid-drive or rear locked rear motor, and have built a few mid-drives.........but yes these guy did it correctly

    I purchased a 3.0 from Lectric and am more than pleased with it. The head light is the more powerful one as displayed on the trike. I live in Arizona and have visted the facility on three occasions. I am never surprised at how great they treat their customers. I have only had minor service requirements performed but met someone who was not happy when they first arrived, but commented on how Lectric had stepped up to the plate and did way more than what he expected. Both of us left extremely happy. My wife will be purchasing the trike and we look forward to returning to lectric to pick up the unit. It seems strange that only last year I was asking about the trike and now it is available and at a very reasonable price.

    I have an Addmotor trike and like it, but I never change any if the gears and feel it goes a little too fast on pedal assist 1. I do like the travel on the front fork and Lectric should add that, just to help with any bumps.

    Years ago we had a blast riding the Schwinn Town & country tricycles around on two wheels. That is the last tricycle that I know of that had a true differential, so the peddling power tended to go to the wheel off the ground, limiting the ability to pedal down the street with one wheel up - we had to drop all three wheels to the ground to regain speed.
    However, what was entertaining for a bunch of bicycle mechanics is likely to be less entertaining for 70 year old grandma - these can and will tip and the trike tends to end up on top of you.
    As Schwinn dealers we had an advantage that Lectric does not have. We could spend as much time as we needed to in the parking lot with a customer. By the time we were done, the customer at least had an awareness that the trikes could be pretty easily tipped. The first six pages of their owners manuals are going to need to be full of cautions and they're probably going to have to have you sign a waiver.
    Lectric has done a really nice job in this form factor, it's just that this form factor has inherent issues. They also need to replace the final drive chain with a belt. Lectric has no experience with bb drive bikes, so they may not be aware of how fast that chain wears when you put a motor plus leg power on it. That back chain is going to be wearing quickly and it doesn't look like it's any fun to replace.
    Everything else about this trike looks absolutely beautiful. I'm just a skeptic about this type of trike.

    bought a macwheel lne 16 around the time of lockdowns to exercise while touching some grass but I never learned to ride a bike. thought the 16" wheels would be easier for me to recover by putting my feet down without leaning but since the bike tries to do a natural sitting position for riding, my legs would always scuff against the pedals. after 2 days of trying to learn to keep my balance on a bike, and numerous scratches and bruises on my knees and shins, I gave up. and since the frame of the bike doesn't allow for training wheels or permanent stabilizing wheels, I sold it to my friend who had his sondors ebike stolen. said that bike is straightforward and it has power for only 250w since it's a rear motor instead of a front like more affordable ebikes and a twist throttle. it's fun and he'd happily take it off my hands.
    when he said that, made me start looking for another form for personal electric transit that didn't challenge my nonexistent sense of balance without making my wallet cry. 1500 is still a big a ask for me but I get an added wheel to help my inability to balance myself, single speed to avoid the guess work or changing gears based on terrain, twist throttle to avoid any more injury to my tendinitis, rear motor with differential for low speed turning, foldable and wide enough to clear doors, a basket to carry groceries and items, and awesome range to not use my car of my days off. man, really wish I didn't have to separate living expenses from expenses to having a life. hopefully they won't raise the price by the time I can put aside 1500.

    I think that Lectric has opened themselves up to some serious problems with the introduction and sale of their XP Trike. While the use of a differential will certainly help, the reality is that this vehicle is inherently dangerous and there is bound to be litigation when customers start flipping them. Watching JT go around at a slight speed and seeing the outside wheel leave the surface is an example of what is going to happen and I don't mean "maybe" going to happen. Adding to that is the fact that they bike can be "unlocked" to increase the maximum speed over 14 mph. While the narrowness is great for folding, it is also great for tipping. People with mobility issues would be far better off on a trike with front dual wheels and the large wheel in the rear. The fact is that many riders, especially the uninitiated will hit the corners going too fast and over they are going to go. From that will follow litigation!
    I must also take issue with your fondness for the twist throttle. Perhaps former or current motorcycle riders will enjoy the twist throttle, but average riders and new riders, I feel would be safer with a thumb throttle that is less likely to be accidentally engaged while riding especially on a trike in a corner.

    • @jamesdelano7126
      @jamesdelano7126 Год назад +2

      I wouldn't worry about litigation. As long as your product works as advertised and isn't manufactured with negligence; it's all good. Innovation would be dead if you worry about potential litigation. Someone will always find a reason to sue about something; whether it is legitimate or not is another question.

    Great review of an awesome eTrike. My wife and I each own a Lectric XP 2.0 and we lovxe it. Time to move to a trike and I will preorder the electric XP trike. Your review mentioned two specifications that are different than shown on the Lectric website. Would you please clarify. Firstly you said it was a 750 W motor but the website shows it as a 500 W motor. Secondly he said it was a single speed Drive but the website shows it has seven speed gears. My only issue which will not be a problem for others is that the 30.5 inch width will not fit my 29 inch door. Never mind, I’ll spend the money I save on the eTrike on widening the door. I like the specs on this electric electric so much and I don’t begrudge having to widen the door. 😊

    If the production model is proven to be reliable and durable I'm all in and would buy one . I follow many of the popular RUclips nomad rv'ers who have received free Lectric e bikes and the consensus is that the Lectric brand has a long list of electrical and mechanical issues. This coming from this years Quartzsite, Az. camping crowd. I own an adult peddle trike now with a rear mounted gas motor kit that pushes it along nicely but I want electric next time around. One thing I would pay more for is front suspension even for asphalt roads as many are very bumpy. Thanks for your review.

    It is my understanding that people getting their electric bikes and/or battery stolen is a big problem. I think cities should provide bike lockers (mini lockable metal storage boxes) where you could park your electric bike inside while shopping, etc. Also, I can see that it doesn't have any suspension incorporated, which contributes to the lower price. I'd like to see 3 wheel suspension, which would reduce the possibility of one of the rear wheels lifting off the ground, providing more stability overall. I think the cargo compartments are essential components and should be standard on all 3 wheel bikes as well as the best front and real lighting systems. Wider rear wheel spread would also provide better stability.
