    I worked on the Lake Shore as the Lounge attendant from 92-96 off and on. I never saw an Triple Crown equipment on the train, and this is after me as we had old coaches not Amfleet II's. It was a real rust bucket of a train. We also had more MHC cars, we hauled enough mail everyday that payed for the train and the passengers were a bonus. Thanks for sharing.

    My old stomping grounds, use to hang out at Utica Union Station & watch the switching along with the constant Conrail freights breezing thru. The Lake "For Sure" Limited LOL, always ran late but this brings back great memories & for that I thank you 😊 !!!

    Anybody who thinks American railroads' physical plant is in poor shape probably can't recall the ever-increasing burden of "deferred maintenance" back in the Sixties and Seventies. There are still lightly-used branch lines were decrepit facilities aren't worth the expense of cleaning up, but the former PRR Wilkes-Barre Branch along which I live was almost completely rehabilitated in the late Nineties, and most of the eyesores are long gone. And tat line sees only 4-6 moves a day.

    didn't read all the comments so if someone's said it before then sorry - but the captions were well done. If that's your first effort then you've set the bar high. Interesting stuff. Also just wondering about the last few vehicles on the Amtrak train - looked like freight? Anyone got any insight for an Australian, where passenger trains (the few we have outside big cities) just carry passengers?

    • @jaywinn481
      @jaywinn481  6 лет назад

      Gray.. Thanks for the comment... That was a period in time whe Amtrak tried to add to their bottom line by carrying packages and express. Those road railers were chosen because there was no need to load and unload at the receiving end.. It did not last long... so it must have been a failure financially...

    • @jaywinn481
      @jaywinn481  6 лет назад

      Gray... Thanks for the good comment...That was a period in time when Amtrak was trying to add to their bottom line with package express service with RoadRailers tied onto the rear of their long distance trains. Roadrailers were chosen to save off loading to trucks at terminals.. They no longer do that so it was not successful..

    • @imacgra1
      @imacgra1 6 лет назад

      They tried Roadrailers in Australia too - again unsuccessful. Train driver friend of mine said they basically combined all the bad features of trucks and trains: too heavy to be effective as trucks, too light to survive as trains - couldn't shunt them according to the Australian Rail Track Corporation manual if memory serves. Pity.

      @@jaywinn481 the repairs have been completed. The tender took the brunt of the damage when it ramed the stair tower.
      FYI: I moved NYC 6721 here back in October of 1999 from the Clarion Historical park in Dayton, Ohio.
      For the record, we had 2 steam engines in the station 🚉 that October. Columbus day weekend was the train show and the NYS&W 142 in the shop down the street. With repairs on 142 completed, I asked Earl Pardinne if we could bring them together for a send off to the turn of the century.
      With Old Winston Link's CP steam engine in the yard, 142 passed by her and headed down to the team track and picked up the 6721 for the backup move to the station.
      A previous arranged Announcement was made of the arrival and the station emptied out to track 6 to witness History of the arrival of 2 steam engines into Utica's Union Station less than 90 days from the turn of the century.
      Prowd to of made it happen.

    Incomplete video of the train in emergency. A bad axle is not 'engine trouble'. Showing the front truck tells us nothing. The east bound was not 'stalled', it was in emergency apparently. GTR - how long do you want us all to 'wait'. Michael, that is not wheel bearings. It is the sound of wheels and flanges on tight gauge rail. CSX 8123 was also NOT 'stalled', they were waiting for a clear signal.
