If this project ended 3 updates ago it would still have been the pinnacle of smash64 mods. Anything extra is icing on the cake, thank you guys, amazing work
Icing? More like "this mod is obviously one of the best Smash64 mods. However, everything else after the first few updates make this mod rival PROJECT M". Don't down play this mod, this adds a ton of content and modes that would make the biggest Smash mods blush! The graphics will obviously be a turn off, sure. But simpler graphics makes development more streamlined and faster. Therefore, this can be the most content heavy mod in all of Smash bros!

@@TheNadroj10 It's just too bad Nintendo won't allow them at any major tournaments. Random aside, Nintendo announced they're going to be releasing a mode in Metroid Dread where you die from 1 hit. It's clear there are people in the company that understand gamers wanting a challenge in their game. It's just too bad Masahiro Sakurai isn't one of them... otherwise maybe Nintendo would have made Project + themselves as a DLC for Smash Ultimate. The removal of L-canceling is a classic paradigm. It's not necessary to L-cancel in order to play the game and have fun, but it's a reward to the player if they practice it.

This has been one of the coolest ROM hack projects to watch as it continues to develop. The fact it runs so well on the real hardware is insanely impressive.
Wow, this is incredible I also never realized how Yoshi's dair makes so much more sense for Sonic, and every mod that replaces his fair with this front-flip-spike-kick from the Battle GBA game brings a smile to my face
The fact that sonic jumps so high making him good on ground and air is so cool because of the fact that his momentum is based both in the ground and air on his games so it's cool that his playstyle actually reflects how you play his games now, including the fact that from what I can tell he's going to take a lot of effort to master but could be really good if you can put in the effort
There's just something 'special' about the N64 Smash Bros,.. The nostalgia, the simplicity to the attacks and the basic polygonal designs and colors,... Oh who am I kidding I LOVE the sounds of the N64 Smash Bros! To me, the sound design is the glue that holds the charm of the game together even after all these years.
I truly believe it's more than just a nostalgia, it's a genre in of itself like a modern retro, the future funk of the videogame segment. We are seeing more and more of this now days.
The music that didn’t come from the separate franchises is still something else...the main menu music is like the composer didn’t know it was going in a fighting game. The scoreboard after you beat master hand...like you completed a monumental task & finally caught a second to reflect...it’s all beautiful. Even the polygons
Yeah, I love the classic sounds. They had the most impact, and with the Audience in the background to always give it extra emphasis. Even the cheering was legendary, it felt truly earned, and either satisfying or just made you want to smash Pikachu's, depending on the who was winning. The slashes from Link's Sword sounded heavy like it could cut through anything. The Beedrill, Onyx, Koffing, Starmie, and Hitmonlee will be missed. Apparantly Meowth returned, but I honestly didn't notice, I miss the small annoying sounds they made. And the coolest attack in the franchise: Smash 64 Screw Attack.
My God, you guys put so much work on this, it is breath taking! Nintendo should add all of you to their team, for the amount of talent there is here!!!
today is my 29th birthday. feb 27 2022. this is my favorite game of all time and the happiest part of the video for me was the ending music on the thank you for playing screen. man i used to sit in sound test and replay that time over and over for hours and i never get tired of hearing it. the nostalgia of a simpler time when sooo many people were still alive. thanks
I appreciate that this project is being conservative with the characters added and not going insane like some hacks/fangames. Every single one of the characters perfectly fits Smash 64
there are several characters that are out of place. dark samus (not a thing until a generation later), lucas (game in development hell) and sonic (sonic on nintendo would have never happened back then) for example. so i don't think they are aiming for that anymore.
@@JackoMoonwalker consistency is a thing, my friend. rarely any romhack tries to be close to vanilla as in trying to be a legitimate product. so it was exciting to see one that seemed to try. also smash 64 is the only smash game that really feels like a celebration of nintendo mascots and every character is unique, remix was following that too, but not anymore.
Amazing stuff as usual. Really hoping for my main man Dedede to make an appearance sometime, seeing as he was originally planned for Smash 64. Either that or some more girls. Samus is looking kind of lonely, so Peach and Zelda would make nice additions.
Speaking of Zelda. Give me Impa and Skull Kid From Majora's Mask. And give me a Decloned Ganondorf that has a moveset that3 nothing like Captain Falcon. That plus give me Clocktown as a stage.
Ayooooo is it time for Banjo-Kazooie? King Dedede? Maybe Meowth gets an actual shot? Rayman?? Bomberman??? WALUIGI? No idea, but I’m sure the character we get will be awesome! Thank you Smash Remix team for all your work and devotion to this project!
It's a low-poly stage in which the actual N64 could probably run them. The same could be said for the F-Zero stage, and likely the Pac-Man stage from Sm4sh.

This is almost like a decade and a half ago when he was first announced for Brawl. Loving all the work here! A lot of these modes and stages I see and I'm like, "how did they not do these already"? Love seeing Metallic Madness.

Zelda would be a nice pick. If I had to pick a character, I'd go with Sora. Idk why, but the thought of low-poly Sora with N64 sound quality (mostly with his voice lines) is just something I'd enjoy lmao.

Absolutely incredible. I can't even begin to wonder how you guys manage to outdo yourselves every single time. I won't lie, part of me is waiting for you to surprise us with James Bond or Banjo or something. Sonic looks SO good.
Augh this reminded me of one of those "mew is under the truck" cheats. A friend had tricked me into thinking that banjo would be in the game if you played as Link with only one life on very hard and beat it in a time limit. I haven't spoken to him since.
The new ? slots every update are always so exciting and it's super cool to see the roster slowly expanding to the sizes of later smash games. Very hyped for future releases!

Seeing that there are two character slots available after sonic being announced here makes me hopeful for Banjo-Kazooie to be in Smash Remix. I imagine that their onstage appearance would be teleporting onstage via sparkles on a Banjo Kazooie Pad like they do in Banjo-Kazooie when they go to the different worlds, and their victory animations could be the jiggy dance, opening a note door dance, and them in their beach chairs with sunglasses and drinks in their paws/wings.

I want to say that i REALLY appreciate your work and efforts, usually smash 64 is overlooked by other smash games, and this is my favorite smash of all time, i love all the features, stages and characters, thank you so much for giving us this, this is the best mod i played in any game
Growing up we didn't have consoles in my home and it felt like you were missing out on a lot of stuff happening while other kids played with their 64s or even xboxes and gamecubes in some instances. Thankfully I had an awesome older brother who very early set up project 64 on his computer and let me play tons of games. The first game I ever committed to was smash 64 (I was around 7) and it was the best frickin experience to be able to connect to all these iconic characters, their legacy and use them in fun and many different ways. To see this mod expand the idea even further makes me feel that this could surpass ultimate for me, of course partly 'cause of the nostalgia factor, but also because there is an entertaining simplicity in smash 64 compared to the other games that, in my opponion, makes you focus more on the characters themselves and have these fun non-canonical role-playing fantasies while pitting bowser against ganon etc. at home playing this to an extent further than the other smash games offer. Thank you so much for this mod, it's awesome!

For the sonic reveal it should have been open your heart, not live and learn, because SA1 came out in '98, and SA2 came out in '01, after melee pretty sure.
Gosh dang it you done it again! I said it once and say it again: For me Smash remix is the most impressive Hack of any Smash game there is. Especially it is Smash64! Which is the most "Primitive" and Limited one. But you basicly said: "Limitations? Borders? What is that?" Even so far i sadly dont had a change to play it. Whoa! This caught me by surprise, the trailer for Sonic was a nice callback to the Subspace Emissary, You guys did a fantastic job on Sonic as well from stage entrances, moveset and taunts. Also I wasn’t expecting Live and Learn with the N64 Soundfont to sound surprisingly good. I love the inclusion of more fun and unique ways to play, I say this as a casual smash player!

It’s honestly amazing what you guys have been able to accomplish in such a short time on this mod. Started following this project in 2020 when I downloaded version 0.9 Finally updated to 1.1.1 just last night and the changes just in the last two years are incredible. Can’t wait to see what the future holds. Getting together with friends and playing this on a real N64 is such a blast!

Random aside, Nintendo announced they're going to be releasing a mode in Metroid Dread where you die from 1 hit. It's clear there are people in the company that understand gamers wanting a challenge in their game.
It's just too bad Masahiro Sakurai isn't one of them... otherwise maybe Nintendo would have made Project + themselves as a DLC for Smash Ultimate.
The removal of L-canceling is a classic paradigm. It's not necessary to L-cancel in order to play the game and have fun, but it's a reward to the player if they practice it.

The fact that sonic jumps so high making him good on ground and air is so cool because of the fact that his momentum is based both in the ground and air on his games so it's cool that his playstyle actually reflects how you play his games now, including the fact that from what I can tell he's going to take a lot of effort to master but could be really good if you can put in the effort

There's just something 'special' about the N64 Smash Bros,.. The nostalgia, the simplicity to the attacks and the basic polygonal designs and colors,... Oh who am I kidding I LOVE the sounds of the N64 Smash Bros! To me, the sound design is the glue that holds the charm of the game together even after all these years.
I truly believe it's more than just a nostalgia, it's a genre in of itself like a modern retro, the future funk of the videogame segment. We are seeing more and more of this now days.
The music that didn’t come from the separate franchises is still something else...the main menu music is like the composer didn’t know it was going in a fighting game. The scoreboard after you beat master hand...like you completed a monumental task & finally caught a second to reflect...it’s all beautiful. Even the polygons

Yeah, I love the classic sounds. They had the most impact, and with the Audience in the background to always give it extra emphasis. Even the cheering was legendary, it felt truly earned, and either satisfying or just made you want to smash Pikachu's, depending on the who was winning. The slashes from Link's Sword sounded heavy like it could cut through anything. The Beedrill, Onyx, Koffing, Starmie, and Hitmonlee will be missed. Apparantly Meowth returned, but I honestly didn't notice, I miss the small annoying sounds they made. And the coolest attack in the franchise: Smash 64 Screw Attack.
My God, you guys put so much work on this, it is breath taking! Nintendo should add all of you to their team, for the amount of talent there is here!!!
But you know that Nintendo demands projects without supporting them at all?.. Sadly, it's true.
The amount of effort and passion that's clearly going into this is just marvelous. I can really see the love brimming off this project.

this is my favorite game of all time and the happiest part of the video for me was the ending music on the thank you for playing screen. man i used to sit in sound test and replay that time over and over for hours and i never get tired of hearing it. the nostalgia of a simpler time when sooo many people were still alive. thanks

there are several characters that are out of place. dark samus (not a thing until a generation later), lucas (game in development hell) and sonic (sonic on nintendo would have never happened back then) for example.
so i don't think they are aiming for that anymore.

rarely any romhack tries to be close to vanilla as in trying to be a legitimate product. so it was exciting to see one that seemed to try.
also smash 64 is the only smash game that really feels like a celebration of nintendo mascots and every character is unique, remix was following that too, but not anymore.

Okay, it's fucking wild how Mushroom Kingdom II looks almost identical to its Melee appearance.
It's a low-poly stage in which the actual N64 could probably run them. The same could be said for the F-Zero stage, and likely the Pac-Man stage from Sm4sh.

Augh this reminded me of one of those "mew is under the truck" cheats. A friend had tricked me into thinking that banjo would be in the game if you played as Link with only one life on very hard and beat it in a time limit. I haven't spoken to him since.
The new ? slots every update are always so exciting and it's super cool to see the roster slowly expanding to the sizes of later smash games. Very hyped for future releases!

Seeing that there are two character slots available after sonic being announced here makes me hopeful for Banjo-Kazooie to be in Smash Remix. I imagine that their onstage appearance would be teleporting onstage via sparkles on a Banjo Kazooie Pad like they do in Banjo-Kazooie when they go to the different worlds, and their victory animations could be the jiggy dance, opening a note door dance, and them in their beach chairs with sunglasses and drinks in their paws/wings.

Growing up we didn't have consoles in my home and it felt like you were missing out on a lot of stuff happening while other kids played with their 64s or even xboxes and gamecubes in some instances. Thankfully I had an awesome older brother who very early set up project 64 on his computer and let me play tons of games. The first game I ever committed to was smash 64 (I was around 7) and it was the best frickin experience to be able to connect to all these iconic characters, their legacy and use them in fun and many different ways. To see this mod expand the idea even further makes me feel that this could surpass ultimate for me, of course partly 'cause of the nostalgia factor, but also because there is an entertaining simplicity in smash 64 compared to the other games that, in my opponion, makes you focus more on the characters themselves and have these fun non-canonical role-playing fantasies while pitting bowser against ganon etc. at home playing this to an extent further than the other smash games offer. Thank you so much for this mod, it's awesome!
If they ever add Smash Run then that would be legendary (not to say they have to, the devs have already done a more than amazing job)

For the sonic reveal it should have been open your heart, not live and learn, because SA1 came out in '98, and SA2 came out in '01, after melee pretty sure.

Whoa! This caught me by surprise, the trailer for Sonic was a nice callback to the Subspace Emissary, You guys did a fantastic job on Sonic as well from stage entrances, moveset and taunts. Also I wasn’t expecting Live and Learn with the N64 Soundfont to sound surprisingly good. I love the inclusion of more fun and unique ways to play, I say this as a casual smash player!

It’s honestly amazing what you guys have been able to accomplish in such a short time on this mod. Started following this project in 2020 when I downloaded version 0.9
Finally updated to 1.1.1 just last night and the changes just in the last two years are incredible. Can’t wait to see what the future holds. Getting together with friends and playing this on a real N64 is such a blast!
I still hope for King Dedede. Really great project. Insane how it's well made

I just realized, the reveal of sonic in this trailer is a reference to the subspace emissary
