In 1961 Omega released a new watch mechanism: Calibre 661. By the number of components per volume, it was the smallest ever industrial manufactured automatic movement in the world. To this day, this record is still unbeaten!
The watch arrived in rather poor condition suffering both water damage,
broken escape wheel and worn out auto rotor post. Most annoyingly, it also
suffered from 'jellified' rubber casing gasket. While most vintage Omega
watches manufactured in 60s and 70s do suffer from this issue, this DeVille
was definitely the worst one I've worked on in years.
The restoration project commenced in December 2020 and was completed 3 months later, on February 26, 2021. Sourcing the original parts was a
challenge. The main goal of this restoration was to preserve as many
original parts as possible, especially the original dial and hands.
The escape wheel was re-fitted (riveted) on new a pinion. The timekeeping
result was rather pleasing with a healthy amplitude. Final touch: a
new-old-stock leather strap by Hirsch found in the junk box.
To viewers interested in total restoration cost: $460 was spent on
replacement parts and the labour cost was $1,100 (Australian dollars).
Was it worth it? This is always a question only the watch owner can answer
for him/herself. Turing a broken and discarded watch into a family heirloom
which once again keeps time is always money well spent.
My special thanks goes to Michael who spent countless hours recording and editing this video.

From a throw away watch to a thing of beauty. Of all the watch repair channels this one has the best soundtrack
Man that music was the best - restoration poetry!
Kenny G music?
Orologowasaronkostanten
Sounded like a Charlie Brown episode aka Vince Guaraldi
RUclips should have a button for Applause, because your craftsmanship deserves it.
I'm amazed that spare parts were still available, especially the black plastic jacket for the movement. Amazing to watch a master watchmaker resuscitating a dead watch.
The question of 'is it worth it' only arises when price gets confused with value. I never hesitate to keep my vintage omegas serviced, they will last indefinitely and accumulate immense value with each generation they pass through. Thank you Mr Hacko.

I'm an enthusiast and a collector in a preposterously modest way, but I've only recently discovered just how absorbing and therapeutic it is to watch master craftsmen doing their thing.
How can anybody watch this repair and think of anything else? It is just amazing how my mind coasts watching this intricate, mechanical restoration. I have found myself holding my breath as the balance wheel is installed and “will it go?” Whew!
The steadiness of your hand is remarkable. Beautiful timepiece.
What a stunning timepiece.
This one had me shivering.. Restored an old Slava 5602A movement about a year ago. Had that disgusting black goo all through it. Stuck to everything. Took quite a while of delicate cleaning but the end result was worth it.
Friends watch that he bought in the old USSR back in the 80's. Hadn't run for at least 15 years and no watchmaker would touch it. Broken pivot on the 3rd wheel had me buying watches from Russia to pillage parts.
I'm only a hobbyist but love working on watches.
Again Nicholas wonderful work bringing that fine piece back to running condition and bravo for the choice of strap. perfection!
Beautiful job. Right to repair? Yes, yes and yes. The other reason I come to your channel, is for the jazz.
👍
Yes I'll second that!
It is a genuine thrill to watch a true master performing their professional craft! Your obvious competence is an example for anyone wanting to be the best!
The color choice on that band is just perfect. Fantastic restoration.
I know it takes quite a bit of time to make these videos, but I was a bit worried about you. So glad you are safe and still at it. Thanks for the fine video, Mr. Hacko. Well done.
I restored an ETA 2550 based watch for my wife's mom last Christmas. The movement gave me horrible fits trying to get it back together again. I succeeded at long last through stubbornness. This movement is surely even smaller, and you make it look easy.
The owner must be in love with that watch. What a fab job master watchmaker
Wonderful piece of transformation
Will last for a very long period
Treat for the next generation from the elders
👍👍💐💐💐
Beautiful, elegant, watch, restored by a craftsman and an artist 👌
Thanks for crediting the music. Too many other channels do not do so. It's very important to respect one's craft at all times imo.
Beautiful. The rescue of Beauty is the plot on this video. Thanks... 🌹🌹🌹🌹
I like it when they dont talk. It's meant to make me sleepy. Love ur work
I could have watched this for hours....the magic you did on restoring this gem, and the perfect music = wow! I have never been into wearing watches, but this gem I would proudly wear. Well done Sir.
Here we can see the plastic has gotten impatient and had reverted back to its original state of crude oil if left long enough this plastic will migrate back to its home ground
Most jazz I've heard in a longtime. Results were brilliant. Do it again, please.
Fantastic work. The jazz fits so well with these types of demonstrations 👌
I like old watches because of their small size compared with today big watches. Good job !
WOW...what a transformation.. Unbelievable how bad the condition of that piece was.. but the work you put into it and the results are Outstanding.....What a fantastic job..and outcome. Love the strap too. Kudos to you sir....
I love watching a craftsman do something that I wouldn't have the first idea how to approach. Such a beautiful result - thanks for sharing.
It never gets old when the tweezers come in to pick up the tiny part.
Like a game from hasbro, called operation.
Enjoyed watching you work your magic on the Omega.
I've always imagined that people who do restorations must get a strong sense of satisfaction when applying their craft to a damaged and/or neglected object and bringing it back to full-functionality and it's former glory. I've watched many restoration videos of those who restore tools and other things, but I've always been in awe of those who do mechanical watch repair at this level. I've had ADD most of my life and just trying to figure out where everything is supposed to go makes my head hurt.
Even dirty an gunked up this is a beautiful movement. Nice work.
Oh my word! That was so good to watch. What a beautiful recovery !
Love the jazz soundtrack as well as the expert craftsmanship.
Absolutely beautiful renovation, genius 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎
after watching so many watches brought back then to see a tiny masterpiece such as that having to have a plastic piece was both shocking and completely appropriate.
A little beauty!
Satisfying service.
Came for the watches, stayed for the jazz..and restoration
Always a pleasure to witness your work Nicholas. I hope all is well with you and yours.
Stunning! A beautiful piece restored for the next generation.
The goo “evaporating” in the solvent was sooooooo satisfying.
Though the same, and with the music the dissolved plastic in the solvent acquired a dance-like quality... ❤️
It's a testament to the tininess of the piece that the pegwood appears in shot like a 2×4 piece of dimensional lumber.
I am learning to become a watchmaker and your videos help me a lot.
Thank you mate, this the ultimate reward. All the very best!
Wow. I’m so impressed this was salvageable! With minimal new parts too!
Pure art. Videos like these are so relaxing to watch.
I watch all your videos and you truly are a master of your craft . Fantastic work along with the awesome Jazz music it just works great. 👏👏👏👏👏 thank you for sharing your videos.
Simply disgusting to simply gorgeous. Beautiful work!
You do make this look like poetry in a watch movement, great job MW...!
LOVED THE VIDEO AND THE MUSIC REMINDED ME OF A HEROIN TRIP I SAW IN A MOVIE. GOOD TIMES!
Just pure master craftsmanship. Enough said.
It was a pleasure to watch this transformation. Well-chosen music. At the end, a spectacular effect.
Beautiful job Nicholas, it's a pleasure watching you work.
You did well to revive that. It was a claggy mess? The end result, as always was tremendous. Great to watch. Thank you.
Wonderful work as always Nick. Made my Monday lunchtime!
Awesome workmanship... someone will definitely wear that with panache.
Yet again, another absolute belter of a video. It seems no matter how bad a watch is Nick can breath new life back into it. Great work guys and can't wait for the next video 👍
Incredibly thorough and microscopic work. Not for everyone !! I loved every minute. I await more ...👁 😜
I just want to say that I really appreciate the detailed information, you make the other watch sites look amateur.
I find it remarkable how steady the master's hands are. Beautiful watch.
Mr Hacko a Brilliant Restoration of a delicate piece of timework
What an incredible video! And the movement... wow. 100/10 for everything.
I just purchased the same watch from Vintage watch store in Manila. I love it. Simple yet so elegant.
Wow, an amazing restoration on a 'once again' beautiful watch. Well done 👏🙂
At first I thought someone had tried to seal it with Tar! Awesome job and great video. It is not lost on me that the OLD Vintage watch, is just slightly older than me and you Nicholas! Time is starting to move faster!
Beautifully edited and great work! When the incabloc setting went flying I felt that.
Nice job...handsome vintage watch. Also like your musical choices...adds to the relaxing nature of seeing watches rebuilt...one of my pandemic discoveries as a non-watchmaker.
The ooze coming off was the best part of the video
I clicked on this because I couldn't figure out how a watch could be "slimey" I stand corrected that is definitely "slimey" also "gooey" and "icky." Amazing work
You forgot "sticky".
Fabulous work! Thank you for sharing, Nicholas.
That gooey stuff, what a mess! Beautiful end result.
Love the choice of music! 👍And big thanks for constantly reminding us of how insanely tiny the parts are by placing them on top of a one euro cent coin.
This is just magical! Thank you, sir!
I’m learning a lot from watching your great videos. I’m your big fan.
Greetings from New York
Well done Master Watchmaker! Well done. Music, size comparisons, the DRAMA of it all! 😎
What a beautiful little movement! Great save!
Just two words.......Wow! Brilliant!!
Bravo! Standing ovation!
Superb restoration CONGRATS
Not being in the EU, I had to check to see that a Euro 1c piece is actually significantly smaller than a US 1c piece. That is one tiny movement! (16.25 mm vs 19.05 mm) Bravo on the restoration!
Such a wonderful watch.🥰 Great restoration.❤️
Master Watchmaker is an understatement! Every video I watch of yours has been breathtaking! ⌚😎👍
Nicholas, sin duda usted es un maestro de la relojería, mis respetos a su trabajo y muchos saludos desde Santiago de Chile 🇨🇱
Looks great I just love watches, the clean up and restore is not overdone I think it is beautiful
Bravo to you for resurrecting that thing!
That was Magnificent!
Great restoration. Great result. A pure educational masterpiece for me. Loved the music. Thanks
Ouch!!!! One of the best work I've ever seen!!!!!!!!! Congrats, mate!!! Regards from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
So satisfying!
It hurt a little to see such a tiny movement, an automatic yet, in a relatively huge case. Amazing to watch the whole process of putting things right.
So satisfying to watch.
Great restoration, sir. That plastic spacer piece is a horror to behold at the beginning. That, plus the fact that it is so tiny makes this quite the restoration piece. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing job done! Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful work. A real masterpiece. Love the video.
I am truly amazed at your talent. Another job well done.
Fantastică muncă, superbă!!Salutări din România!!🌹
Wow, what an absolute mess you started with. The end result was nothing short of amazing. Great work and awesome vid!
I enjoyed this video, especially the music. Soothing.
