Sporting Lisbon had been without a trophy for 19 years, they were struggling financially, and had just sacked their manager after 6 months in charge.
They then turned to someone with only 10 weeks top flight managerial experience, Ruben Amorim.
Who is he? Why was he so sought after? How has he managed to turn Sporting’s fortunes around?

Hopefully this video sparks more interest by the fans abroad. Here in Portugal what he did in Sporting is absolutely insane. Not only did he won the league after 19 years, he did it with a very young squad, mainly from Sporting's academy. It's like he's playing FM irl!!
And it's not only from a results perspective he's being successful. He managed to truly unite the fans for the first time in many years, and I have no doubt he would have achieved that even if he didn't win the league. This guy has a bright future ahead

Klopp came from Mainz to Dortmund and won the league with a young team that produced a lot of later stars (Hummels, Kagawa, Götze, Lewandowski, Gündogan,...) and he did so by getting everybody behind his vision ("Gegenpressing"). Just two things worth mentioning about this video: Taca is actually spelled Taça (with a cedilla) and it's pronounced more like "Tasa". And one thing that wasn't really mentioned but something that should be pointed out about Amorim is that his strongest suit perhaps aside from his tactical prowess is his ability to unify the locker room. After the attack on the training grounds by the Sporting fans that caused Bruno de Caravalho's downfall as a Sporting President, the Sporting locker room was completely tarnished (it was already bad before but got worse after that), Ruben Amorim was able to bring all the players together and make them all feel at home. All the players in interviews constantly mention that Sporting has one of the most enjoyable locker rooms they have experienced in their careers, so much so that players are competitive in training, but, when it comes to games, their will to win surpasses their need to play on the field (i.e. players don't complain about being on the bench).
    Great video regardless!

But the context behind what I said and what happened at sporting's tumultuous time was also important (and makes what he did last year feel even more impressive). The string of poor managing (not necessarily the managers themselves but how it turned out) Sporting had is almost a direct comparison to what has happened to Man United in recent times.

The ironic thing about all this is that despite his clear inspirations, Amorim is basically the anti-Mourinho when it comes to man management. He's always the first one to defend his players even when things terribly wrong. This season with a better team they're revealing more deficiencies physically, with more injuries (they were the best team last year, but rest time is a factor). Amorim might be the next Mourinho, but Conceição has shown to be an amazing coach and anyone who cares should analyze the different rosters he's had and how he's been adaptable with his approach to fit the squad and the financial constrains FC Porto has been in.

Well tbf, that was last season. Sporting's defense has been visibly worse this season, mostly due to concentration issues/inexperience.
But that obviously doesn't take away from City's brilliance.

Mourinho is called the Special One for a reason even though he called himself "A special one" what makes (made) him unique was his ability to break barriers in record time. People tend to forget that the man became both Uefa as CL champion with Porto in 3 years after being an assistant then after he changed English football forever on his 433 against the 442 then he went to Inter and won the CL being totally pragmatic. In a age dominated by high press and possession football of Barcelona, he defeated then without throwing a single punch and this is without highlighting his personality. Man genuinely is funny

To be fair , Tottenham would not be a good move for him. He can grow a few more years in sporting before thinking of going into a burning house like United or spurs. He could really damage his growth with a failed tenure in the premier league, and most likely with spurs he would probably wouldn’t even have the chance to compete in the champions league. Give him time. He has patience and is extremely calm , so I reckon he’ll make the right decision. Other clubs in the future might be interesting such as borussia Dortmund since he has excellent managing of young academy players and has that little star against more developed clubs, and it could be a good step up without having the England media tripping him.

@@Jay-in6dl It is. But Tifo started being a channel with a massive respect for fans, players, clubs and leagues outside the UK. That involved serious research on topics as basic as the name of a club.
