Nice to here from someone who has an understanding. The world is full with self-proclaimed experts who have no clue. Resolution is indistinguishable in many prints. However, my Canon 5DII does allow greater latitude for aggressive cropping, which is slightly limited by my Nikon D3. Its all about understanding the limitations of any camera system. The D3x limitations may be less then other systems, but it is still a tool of the trade. Ultimately, it's the skill of the photographer that counts.
nice camera i actually liked the vieo this time, you usually take way too long describing what's in the box and such stuff in my opinion, but this was a really good video really giving an idea of what the camera can do
1 question about dual card slots. in backup mode, if you take a photo, there will be a duplicate photo in card 2, right? but what if you didn't like the photo you took, and deleted it, would the duplicate shot be deleted as well?
D90, or D300s if you want to stick with nikon, if canon, try the 5D mrk2 or the 7D, i myself used the D5000 as a beginner dslr for about 2 months, and now im upgrading to a canon 7D, i do cinematography alot also. I've been shooting since 2006 using a panasonic, Fmc 50 or something like that
Absolutely correct Anabasis75. Extended range is usually a range where the image quality isn't up to standard, and USUALLY usable in only a few practical applications, black and white photography, surveillance, etc.
It means that the camera can record to those sensitivity levels (eg 50 or 6400) but the images aren't good enough to make the ISO (international standards organization) benchmarks of quality. Basically, realize you get less image quality if you are outside the standard range.
i had the same conversation with a non photographer friend of mine. Although there are limits to any statment he reasured me that it was somthing photographers say to pretend that its not just the camera doing all the work. I tried to explain that the artistry is in understanding the camera and light... granted alot of it comes down to luck and timing but a real photographer puts himself into those situations he doesn't wait for them. Exceptions being studio work ofcourse
@MultiD3000 whats not to understand ... you have 1: shutter 2: F/stop 3: ISO all tht stuff its the same on every cam ... just gotta know how to use it ;)
I purchased mine 12 months ago and it has proven itself to be a more than adequate performer, it's often with me when i am out in the filed and will be a companion of mine for a couple of years more before i decide to upgrade. Build Quality is as expected- second to none, picture quality the same. No DSLR camera that i am aware of can Match it, Warning to potential buyers, There is no video, it does not take video. But don't let that put you off buying one
Exactly!! im tired of people say that one is better than the other! But i think you should buy the same type of cameras your friends have that way they can teach you how to use it, and even maybe let you use some of their equipment (tips learned from kris krug haha)
Im a pro photographer and I do use the Canon 5D Mark2 and Nikon D3. Softguy69 your comments are ridiculous. For years Canon lead the industry with their pro level optics. Nikon also has greats optics and cameras but realistically the differences are negligible NOT miles apart. Canon also introduced several benchmark pro cameras to the market. Nikon users including myself felt Nikon had some catching up do with respect to both full frame technology and noise levels, which they finally have.
i use the D70s and D300 for every day stuff and work. This thing looks awesome, i dont think id be able to just use it for my work, id use it all the time
Certainly 12MP are enough for portrait work and print work that requires the cleanest image; however 24MP is nothing to sneeze at. More detail is more detail, and for certain users 24MP is preferable to 12.
I migrated from the Kodak DCS SLR/n after Kodak discontinued their support for that camera to the D3X. Although I liked the DCS, the D3X is far superior and super easy to use. It is a magnificent machine.
Well, if your really familar with the D60, stick it with nikon. the only reason i went with canon was it's newer technologies and that it had 1080p MOVIE mode. If you take mostly portraits stick with nikon you won't regret it, now if you take sports, and need the fast Burst speed, take the 7D. I guess i can be considered a semi-pro DSLR user, but I'm only 14 :) Also LENS is more important than the body, is what i learned from pros. -Joe
@WhiteyRavensTH I appreciate what youre saying - in reality the m9 would be more difficult for my type of shooting, but I can live without AF. My problem with the d3x is that the only REAL difference between it and my d700 is resolution, so the extra £3k isnt worth it. Id rather stay with my d700 and wait to go medium format. In the meantime I may get an old f5 and go through a few hundred rolls till I get it right.
Good news for those who could not quite stretch to buying one when they first came out, today you can buy an Ex Display Nikon D3X Body for around £3000 and saving of over £1000 from what i paid barely 12 months ago. It's not expensive in the scale of things really, and is only 1/5th the price of a new medium sized car and will depreciate a lot less than the car will. Go on treat yourself, those images you want to capture may be gone forever if you don't:)
i second that some of the best digital pics i have seen come from the 350d/30d or nikon d200. Resolution after a certain point is indestiguishable in most use ...this is for people wanting blow thier prints up huge. Dont give me landscape... serious landscape photographers use medium/large format film. I would never buy this over the d3 it sacrefises too much for res it..... if i want 24mp res ill just shoot 35mm its about the same if not slightly better. Peace Brian
It seems hard to place nikons target audience for this camera. I assume most pros go for medium format, so most d3x buyers must be amateurs/semi-pros with money
that is the correct pronounciation, sir. Naikon is how many mispronounce it. Nikon is a japanese company, not American, hence the neekon prounciation stands.
I can give you an instant example of the similar thing with the Nike brand. While in America its pronounced as "Nigh-kee" in Russia it is pronounced as "nighk". Why? Because it's more convenient considering the language differences.
Haha, thats a bit extreme, being that no nikon has anywhere near the same sharpness of a hassy, but when making big prints, or doing a lot of post production, the more megapixels DO help, because with both of those things colors, and overall image quality gets worse.
Isnt it true that nikons use a lot of the sony electronics inside? I know for a fact that the D3x and the sony A900 are practically the same camera, yet the nikon is about $5k more...........paying for the name?
Too bad I can't afford this camera, cause I love the size of that thing, even with a grip a D3100 or D5100 wouldn't even match it in size, about the only thing I could possibly do is rent one for a week and cry when it leaves my hands...
No matter how many pixels a DSLR has, it`s small 35mm sensor will always limit the image quality. More pixels doesn`t mean a better image. I own a d3x, but I can`t afford medium format, so whats the solution? Buy a 35mm film camera to practice developing and enlarging, then move up to Large Format film! You can get a LF setup for less cash than a d3x, but the image quality is superior cos the smallest LF film size is 4by5 INCHES, which is FOURTEEN times the size of a full frame dslr sensor...
@snifnscratch Don't be fooled by what you see on internet, mate. I have both M9 and D3x and there are COMPLETE different materials. Both are fantastic, but you have to know that they are many things you wouldn't be able to do with the M9. The list is long : No AF, almost impossible to use the screen to check the pics in good conditions, jpeg sucks, final results only depend on what you do on your computer since the M9 only delivers very neutral images. There's a world between both ;-)
...no super gadget cameras even in proFX Cameras.I am using Nikon because of the quality and compatibility and handling. Sorry but I think is more accurate. Peace..(even in war photojournalism)
Your comments are also ridiculous shizz! The true art of photography is more about the skill of the photographer and post processing abilities then the equipment used. Some of the best photos I've seen were done with a 6 mega-pixel Fuji S3 Pro and also the Canon 20D. Check out DPChallenge. To trash either the Canon or the Nikon brand simply questions the credibility of the author. Both brands have their strengths and weakness. One thing for sure, neither suck!
my friend have a D3x i tryd it once it is very big and there is allot of stuff that you don't understand the sound of the shutter is weird but over all the photos is amazing and id rather watch this than porn too lol
Ciao volevo chiederti se l'autofocus e' veloce per lo sport?
Grazie
One of the best cameras ever made!
Hope so, because I just picked one up for $500 with less than 7k shots
dx mode makes the full frame to crop 1.5x like nikon aps-c cameras so that means you can use non full frame lens on them

It's a very amazing camera
For recording audio clips with your photos. This has been a feature ever since the D2 series cameras.
nice camera
i actually liked the vieo this time, you usually take way too long describing what's in the box and such stuff in my opinion, but this was a really good video really giving an idea of what the camera can do
well what are the things that you should look for then?

can you shoot videos with it?
i noticed a mic, whats it for?
jeez, how huge is the batterie?
Is it equiped with Photoshop CS5 ?
why not fujitsufilm or any other company?
@U23Drocs good point i just dont see myself ever using it for more than a photoshoot or something
i had the same conversation with a non photographer friend of mine. Although there are limits to any statment he reasured me that it was somthing photographers say to pretend that its not just the camera doing all the work.

Digital Rev without Kai ?
Oh my god, thank you. I am really enjoying this.
Said no one ever ....
@MultiD3000 whats not to understand ... you have 1: shutter 2: F/stop 3: ISO all tht stuff its the same on every cam ... just gotta know how to use it ;)
Is that Lok?
i belive that is a 50 1.4g
that is a super user friendly lens
great for portraits, flowers, larger landscapes in dusk
Native ISO was only 1600!?
I purchased mine 12 months ago and it has proven itself to be a more than adequate performer, it's often with me when i am out in the filed and will be a companion of mine for a couple of years more before i decide to upgrade.

@khairilhz if you are saying that the person reviewing the d3x is kai, its not.

@homersimpson587 u should try the Oly E-3 for sure! I have it, and its for pros like me.

nice overview of the d3x... although I will NEVER get to the level where i need one, lol
24 megapixels? What's the size of the shot image? 1 TB? geez...
How cute compared to modern standards :)

la mejor camara del mercado

The background music is annoying.
I hit mute also a few times music sucks
that is the correct pronounciation, sir. Naikon is how many mispronounce it. Nikon is a japanese company, not American, hence the neekon prounciation stands.
The way the azn fingers hold and caress the camera is like noone else.
I can give you an instant example of the similar thing with the Nike brand. While in America its pronounced as "Nigh-kee" in Russia it is pronounced as "nighk". Why? Because it's more convenient considering the language differences.

Music should be changed. It doesn't align w content of video, very distracting. What's wrong with just voice?
woooooooooooooo
amazing cam really

depends on how much money you want to spend?????
..... some lense from Nikon and Canon that can resolve 24Mp ?!!! ;)
with this music you should replace camera reviews to a porn
thats how many companies make profit. a single camera may only cost about $500 to make and will be sold for maybe $1000-$1400.
No matter how many pixels a DSLR has, it`s small 35mm sensor will always limit the image quality. More pixels doesn`t mean a better image. I own a d3x, but I can`t afford medium format, so whats the solution?

@nuralider because the fricken background music sounds like it!! lmao
Very goood
No, The D700 is a great camera (I own one), but it isn't up to the caliber of the D3 or the D3x.
i effing want this.
this thing is solid (1:36)
No canon camera can beat this camera, damn it's so expensive
Wowowow...drool**
@snifnscratch Don't be fooled by what you see on internet, mate. I have both M9 and D3x and there are COMPLETE different materials. what the hell is a neekon?
@mrmistercharles sure these is kai, when he 1st time join digitalrev i guess..lol
having seen sample images by Leicas m9, I`d rather spend a little more on the leica........
@sowhatdude1 post processing
@appacana
Better be a lawyer, dentist, or just win the lottery to own this camera.
Back then youtube could handle only 360p videos lol. :P
WTF Kai wasnt here in 2008???
Go for a leaf credo
he annoys me so much saying "neekon"....
it's NIKON!
...no super gadget cameras even in proFX Cameras.I am using Nikon because of the quality and compatibility and handling. Sorry but I think is more accurate.
