No, my young friend (Russian judging by your red/blue colours...?). Look at the number of current world record records that were set in or before 1988. These were the last Olympic Games that took place before two significant events;
1) The collapse of the USSR and its satellite states in the Eastern Bloc 1989 - 1991
2) The introduction of out of competition testing in 1989.
It wasn't just the eastern Bloc that were cheating of course - athletes from all over the world such as Florence Griffith-Joyner who was never caught set world records which still stand. She retired after those games when it was announced that out of competition testing would be introduced. The Soviet Bloc "retired" when Communism fell so by 1992 international competition looked so much different. Even so, many track and field athletics and swimming world records were smashed apart by the Chinese at national championships and at the World Championships in 1993 in both those sports. The swimming records have gone but some of the distance events on the track still stand and they happened because of improper testing. After this things really changed. The 800m record in the above photo was actually broken by the Czechoslovak athlete Jarmila Kratochvilova in 1983 equally controversially but look at the women's World Records from 1988 or before and some of the men's in the field events and you'll see what I mean. I grew up as part of a disbelieving generation of sports fans (I was born in 1966 and turned 48 last week - getting old...) who deep down knew what was really going on. It was systematic in the Eastern Bloc but because that has stopped now countries like my own Great Britain are very competitive - we topped the medals table with 12 Golds at the European Championships which finished yesterday 17/08/14 - yeah!!! - and today the European Aquatics Championships are taking centre stage for the next week. I'm afraid that the Russian team has suffered a lot of failed drugs tests and is somewhat depleted. In fact the governing body FINA is close to kicking the Russian Federation out of of international competition because there is a specific number of failed tests that one country is allowed before that country is barred from competing and Russia is very close to that. There seems to be a culture among some people in countries such as Russia, Ukraine and Belarus which has not disappeared even after all these years - look at the number of failed drugs tests in these countries. I'm sorry my friend but this is the reality. Cheating happens everywhere but some things are more than just a coincidence.

All the discussion about the FIRST place runner being juiced running a freakin for 1:53.xx and everyone fail to realize that a few women AFTER her broke 1:55...1:55...1:55 is barely being seen TODAY by the FIRST place finisher let alone the 5th or 6th place finisher so this ENTIRE era could have been tainted..speculation of the 47.60 women's world record...buts few women after her in that race broke :49 which is also RARELY seen today sooo yea though the spotlight is on the 1st place finisher being juices, imagine how many other runners were as well that were also that were finishing a few seconds behind them and STILL running times that are runn today that often..ridiculous

Really? I think the biggest travesty is going on nowadays, seing what kind of "BEAUTIES" take part in competitions! Just look first at caster semenya, francine niyonsaba, margaret wambui and other african hermaphrodites and then make conclusion.
