Im ok with the diesel, im not ok with the downgrade in power. Just 350 hp vs 420 in the old one is really disappointing. Its 70 down and that alone is a reason not to consider it in my book. The us 450 hp version is worthy of the s badge, this isnt. 100 hp is a big difference.
This car is not being sold in the US. Or at least they have yet to announce it. So I’m not sure where you are hearing we are getting this as the 2.9 V6.

it's an additional package. i have worked 4 months at Audi Dealership and seen this S6 with real quad exhaust. it's a 1500€ additional package. they only did the fake quad exhaust tips for EU regulations. but in reality..if you're welder you can simply add 40cm pipes there and you're good.
Exactly. For that extra price you can make your A6 3.0 TDI a way better car than S6 is. Aftermarket exhaust, chip tuning, some mechanical tuning, maybe some suspension (but Audi has a great one actually). Yes, it will take more gas, but... whatever :) But still you can make it faster than S6.
the outputs are fake because it is a diesel and not to project the combustion particles onto the following vehicle .If you take a petrol car it's real exhaust. Its the same for many cars
@@rastastealth The SQ5 also has a Diesel engine and it has normal exhaust tips and an artificial sound generator. It sounds pretty good, while the S6 has a fake V8 and the exhaust point down behind the bumper like a 30 year old diesel taxi. What the hell was Audi thinking. It's just embarrassing...

S models should be petrol engines and thats it!! Diesel is not an S car anymore, it can be a s-line but not S! Audi has dropped theirs qualities level big time, going down from V8 twin-turbo to cheap diesel tractor engine!

I agree 100%. I wouldn't buy this car because I wouldn't want to keep explaining why I have pretend exhaust tips. Have real ones or none! No room for fake on costly cars. Audi screwed up.

S4 and S6 all gone diesels and as cherry on the cake, fake exhaust tips. The price will probably be off the charts for a tuned up 3.0 TDI basically...Disgrace.
It’s not a disgrace they will probably outsell the petrol variant in the uk, mark my words.iv had bitdi sq5 and now the petrol s4 bar the fuel economy and sound performance is very similar.
@@s500steve It's supposed to be a sports car. Not the ultimate sports car but still. If fuel economy is something you are looking for, then go for 2l diesel engine. Needless to say cities and countries are banning diesels and Audi puts them in top range cars. I am not saying these are bad engines but too ordinary for this type of car and at this price point.
The fake exhausts are terrible, but the overall package is very compelling. The diesel is an excellent package, affordable and quiet. Great points made in your video Thomas! Well done 👍
BMW and Mercedes are upping the power in M and AMG cars and Audi says no let’s drop a diesel in the car instead of giving it a 500HP V8. That makes no sense Audi. None.
i don't understand why they decided that S6 will be a diesel. 50 TDI is the reasonable and pretty fast choice for those who want diesel. If you go for S model fuel consumption is not on your mind (at least not as nr.1 factor when choosing the car), so I don't approve that...But video is, as always, great! Oh yeah, and about exhaust tips, as I understood they put OPF filter somewhere in the bumper or? Not sure how didn't they manage to do a proper real exhaust...?
The s6 as a diesel does make sense. Most buyers of the s6/s7 are eldery people who love the extra power in cruising. It is diesel due to stricter european emmissions laws. OPF filters are in petrol engines, DPF in diesel engines.

I also think they want to get rid of all the diesel engines they already produced. Cause diesel sales are dropping anyway,so there is nothing about what a customer wants. I get the thing on an sq5 tdi for example,but on this one,let's be honest,it won't top the sales of any other "rival".

YES! Been waiting for this video since the new A6 came out. Now looking forward to the RS6 video (whenever the RS6 comes out). Absolute shame about the exhaust though.
As far as the fake exhaust, they could've easily made that entire section into a rear diffuser without any fake exhaust tips. I would demand a $3,000 "stupidity" discount for those fake exhaust tips.
Only 3 thousand? You are being very modest. This exhaust system together with fake sound and tips will put a lot of people off. Otherwise this car is very good. Just sort out the exhaust and stick to real sound of V6 diesel. If you decide to buy do not forget to remove S6 badge when placing your order. Basically make it as smilar to an ordinary A6 as possible.
Nice review. I like the Avant best. It just looks better taking the curves. I wish there was a strong 25v 5 cylinder engine available with this vehicle. I do not like the fake exhaust ports. Why not give us OLED rear fog lamps in that location, instead of doing something artificial?
Audi needs money for development of the future electric vehicles. That's why they are saving money from wherever they can. However the marketing move of the TDI Audi S6 maybe it's not so bad, europeans always were fans of powerful yet fuel efficient models. For a european, an S model with fuel consumption less than 10/100km is something quite amazing. Also, this S6 TDI concept is not totally new, BMW has the sport TDI versions from a while now and those models were quite popular in Europe. Also the S6 wants to offer sportiness but combined with smoothness and comfort, so the TDI engine fits really well there, combined with the quattro transmission; this is not a RWD BMW which is suppossed to shake you up during the acceleration; BMW has RWD for that whereas Audi has quattro which feels different, not worse but just different. I think the future sales numbers of the S4 and S6 TDI or any S TDI model could really surprise us.

It amazes me how people are outraged at the decisions Audi has made with the performance cars when it was really obvious that it had to be influenced by the regulations. The regulations will eventually kill the classic performance cars altogether, so be happy with what they are giving for now. Not saying I am fan of diesel on a performance car, but I am sure even Audi would have given it a petrol in Europe if it hadn’t been for these regulations. Can’t blame Audi for that. On a positive note, I can vouch for the consumption figures. The new diesel engines, besides 3.0, are really impressive on the consumption. My A7 has the same 2.0 diesel as the A6, and I also get 6/7l per km.
Fake engine sound through the speakers, useless scoops and wings (fake), plastic engine covers (fake), engineered pops and bangs on overrun (fake). It’s not just Audi and the battle has been lost.
I was very sceptical about a TDi S6. Even though it loses out 100hp against the old 4.0 V8, the massive amount of torque is impressive. This gives better real world drivability and mid range acceleration. I own the 2.0 Tdi version of this car and Thomas is spot on about the build quality and quiet cabin 👍
This fake exhaust tips are next level ridiculous. Audi achievs top level of fake exhaust shenanigans. They Look great from far, but in the winter, that would look like some spectacular magic "smoke" coming from behind the bumper... 🤣
they need to bring back some form of tactile control. i'm not against touch screens but it just simply cannot replace the functionality of a tactile interface like physical buttons - especially while operating a vehicle at high speeds. seems like a direction taken by the marketing team and not the design team. i've always loved audi for their perfect balance of clean, minimal aesthetics and functionality - the touchscreens offer a cleaner more modern look but is nowhere near worth the cost to functionality. the q7, with it's retractable display was the pinnacle, IMHO.

Don't you guys usually get better standard options in UK than we in mainland Europe? I know that the A6 C6 came with leather and Navigation as standard in UK. Don't know if that is correct but I think it was said in a British car channel on RUclips..

Thomas, did you know that in many countries like russia, kazakhstan etc, people who have adblue system in their new diesel cars, disable this system, just cut it from the vehicle physically and software also. It’s due to bad quality of diesel, adblue doesnt work properly, and in addition in cold winters like -15 -20 degrees, there is even more problems with this system.
Autogefühl the best quality we have is EURO-5 standart. But almost everywhere it is still EURO-4. But even if there was good diesel, its still problem of adblue with low temperatures.
I must say that I really don't care if a car has fake exhaust pipes. The only times I ever look at the rear of my car is when I am cleaning it and when I am loading something into the boot. Most of the time it's other people who see the rear of my car; and I doubt they even notice fake exhaust pipes.

Thanks Thomas, great review! Knowing why they went to diesel and seeing the qualities of the car, I think it's actually quite a nice offering. But I feel they should just be open and honest about it, not come up with excuses that it now has a great range because it's diesel. Similarly with the exhaust: just go without any visible exhaust instead of this silly fakery that is not fooling anyone.
no idea why so much hate for S6 as a diesel.. noone fucking bought them in Europe previously, people either went for A6 or RS6. S6 was more for USA market and now it's perfect. Europeans love fast and economical diesels - got it! Americans love powerful petrol engines - got it! This is the perfect car, anyone who tries to say something about exhausts is just hunting for likes on RUclips, which are worthless - just like the comments themselves.
Tomas, I dont understand. Why do they use the 350hp v6 700nm in the s6,s7 instead of the v8 430hp 900nm? These are bigger than the s4 and s5 and still use the same underpowered motor
It's not that the petrol wouldnt pass WLTP, that's a problem yes, but that could be solved. The bigger problem is that the S models are sold in significant numbers and when u still sell them all with the big petrol engine in the EU, you would gather a lot of bad co2-numbers. Means: Audi will lose more money by selling those vehicles than earning money. So the decided not to pay so high fines and rather earn money in Europe by selling the S models as Diesel.
I was for years a Smodel driver, S4 with 4.2 liter V8, followed by two S6 models. Unfortunately I have to swith now over to Mercedes where i can get a true sporty Avant with gazoline engine and not with those ridiculous fake exhaust pipes and artificially made engine sound in the car. This car is a real disgrace to Audi and completely disqualifies the Audi management who decided to destroy the Smodel reputation.
Diesel in an S6?? Wtf?? A decade ago it had a Lamborghini V10!!! I just completely lost all my interest in Audi cars. Stopped the video right after he said it is a diesel. I was genuinely interested in buying one before. I am a BMW guy but the current 5series is ugly af. So probably going for a petrol Eclass estate because that is all thats left...
As long as SQ7 as the big SUV could have TDI engine, I dont feel like packing up TDI to A6 model is a good way to follow up with legend of sport variants of A6. No idea if they said anything about RS6 engine yet. But if they come up with V8 TDI of SQ7 I might be a little pissed off (not that I want to buy one but sentiment-wise).
I’m guessing Audi left the traditional diffuser with fake exhaust tips for good reason. Now most people can upgrade the exhaust without having to fabricate a new bumper. Just simply remove the fake ones and slide an aftermarket one through.
Nice car, just sad about the diesel option. It would've been nice to offer both options to customers globally. There is a huge chance we will get the diesel in South Africa - not that I'm planning to buy one but I would prefer that people have options (it's their money after all).

For the S4 and S5 the 3.0 tdi is very good, but for the S6 and S7 the 4.0 tdi from SQ7 would have been a better choice
79k € in der Basis, 100k € für einen realistisch ausgestatteten S6 Avant. Und dafür bekommt man Auspuffblenden, ohne jede Funktion. Genau mein Humor.

@@unclsam6798 It is stupid anyway. There is nothing sporty in a diesel. Plus,audi hat some legendary s models. Remember that 5.2 V10 from the S6? That was what a sporty car should be like. I also think they want to get rid of all the diesel engines they already produced. Cause diesel sales are dropping anyway,so there is nothing about what a customer wants. I get the thing on an sq5 tdi for example,but on this one,let's be honest,it won't top the sales of any other "rival".
The new S4 and S7 will also have the same TDI engine. I have a feeling S series Audis are going to dramatically drop in sales. Very poor move by Audi

and the power too. VAG has the v8 diesel 950 nm in the Touareg. Why don't they use it? same engine as the Audi sq 7 and the Panamera diesel 4s

YES! Been waiting for this video since the new A6 came out. Now looking forward to the RS6 video (whenever the RS6 comes out). Absolute shame about the exhaust though.
As far as the fake exhaust, they could've easily made that entire section into a rear diffuser without any fake exhaust tips. I would demand a $3,000 "stupidity" discount for those fake exhaust tips.

Only 3 thousand? You are being very modest. This exhaust system together with fake sound and tips will put a lot of people off. Otherwise this car is very good. Just sort out the exhaust and stick to real sound of V6 diesel. If you decide to buy do not forget to remove S6 badge when placing your order. Basically make it as smilar to an ordinary A6 as possible.

Nice review. I like the Avant best. It just looks better taking the curves. I wish there was a strong 25v 5 cylinder engine available with this vehicle. I do not like the fake exhaust ports. Why not give us OLED rear fog lamps in that location, instead of doing something artificial?

Audi needs money for development of the future electric vehicles. That's why they are saving money from wherever they can. However the marketing move of the TDI Audi S6 maybe it's not so bad, europeans always were fans of powerful yet fuel efficient models. For a european, an S model with fuel consumption less than 10/100km is something quite amazing. Also, this S6 TDI concept is not totally new, BMW has the sport TDI versions from a while now and those models were quite popular in Europe. Also the S6 wants to offer sportiness but combined with smoothness and comfort, so the TDI engine fits really well there, combined with the quattro transmission; this is not a RWD BMW which is suppossed to shake you up during the acceleration; BMW has RWD for that whereas Audi has quattro which feels different, not worse but just different. I think the future sales numbers of the S4 and S6 TDI or any S TDI model could really surprise us.

It amazes me how people are outraged at the decisions Audi has made with the performance cars when it was really obvious that it had to be influenced by the regulations. The regulations will eventually kill the classic performance cars altogether, so be happy with what they are giving for now. Not saying I am fan of diesel on a performance car, but I am sure even Audi would have given it a petrol in Europe if it hadn’t been for these regulations. Can’t blame Audi for that.
On a positive note, I can vouch for the consumption figures. The new diesel engines, besides 3.0, are really impressive on the consumption. My A7 has the same 2.0 diesel as the A6, and I also get 6/7l per km.

Fake engine sound through the speakers, useless scoops and wings (fake), plastic engine covers (fake), engineered pops and bangs on overrun (fake). It’s not just Audi and the battle has been lost.
I was very sceptical about a TDi S6. Even though it loses out 100hp against the old 4.0 V8, the massive amount of torque is impressive. This gives better real world drivability and mid range acceleration. I own the 2.0 Tdi version of this car and Thomas is spot on about the build quality and quiet cabin 👍
I actually think that a Diesel plugin hybrid is even more efficient. but with them, you must of course be light on the gas ?

Diesel doesn't make smoke in winter. Only petrol cars do.
Audis suspension except for a3 down (which is McPherson strut aka vw) have always been top tier. Double wishbone baby!

they need to bring back some form of tactile control. i'm not against touch screens but it just simply cannot replace the functionality of a tactile interface like physical buttons - especially while operating a vehicle at high speeds. seems like a direction taken by the marketing team and not the design team. i've always loved audi for their perfect balance of clean, minimal aesthetics and functionality - the touchscreens offer a cleaner more modern look but is nowhere near worth the cost to functionality. the q7, with it's retractable display was the pinnacle, IMHO.

Don't you guys usually get better standard options in UK than we in mainland Europe? I know that the A6 C6 came with leather and Navigation as standard in UK. Don't know if that is correct but I think it was said in a British car channel on RUclips..

Thomas, did you know that in many countries like russia, kazakhstan etc, people who have adblue system in their new diesel cars, disable this system, just cut it from the vehicle physically and software also. It’s due to bad quality of diesel, adblue doesnt work properly, and in addition in cold winters like -15 -20 degrees, there is even more problems with this system.

Autogefühl the best quality we have is EURO-5 standart. But almost everywhere it is still EURO-4.
But even if there was good diesel, its still problem of adblue with low temperatures.
Audi has jumped the shark, they used to make the most beautiful understated designs. They're just glueing crap on wherever they can now

I must say that I really don't care if a car has fake exhaust pipes. The only times I ever look at the rear of my car is when I am cleaning it and when I am loading something into the boot. Most of the time it's other people who see the rear of my car; and I doubt they even notice fake exhaust pipes.

Ah u mean if they will skip the S5 petrol in Europe for that model then as well? Since this is the case for the S4, we can expect that.

Knowing why they went to diesel and seeing the qualities of the car, I think it's actually quite a nice offering. But I feel they should just be open and honest about it, not come up with excuses that it now has a great range because it's diesel. Similarly with the exhaust: just go without any visible exhaust instead of this silly fakery that is not fooling anyone.

Tomas, I dont understand. Why do they use the 350hp v6 700nm in the s6,s7 instead of the v8 430hp 900nm? These are bigger than the s4 and s5 and still use the same underpowered motor
EU CO2 laws, WLTP testing cycle + fleet consumption. If they dont do that, they have to pay massive fines. Also explained in the driving part

It's not that the petrol wouldnt pass WLTP, that's a problem yes, but that could be solved. The bigger problem is that the S models are sold in significant numbers and when u still sell them all with the big petrol engine in the EU, you would gather a lot of bad co2-numbers. Means: Audi will lose more money by selling those vehicles than earning money. So the decided not to pay so high fines and rather earn money in Europe by selling the S models as Diesel.

Sounds like the US petrol engine 3lt V6 is the same as the current RS4? Same power output and torque?
I was for years a Smodel driver, S4 with 4.2 liter V8, followed by two S6 models. Unfortunately I have to swith now over to Mercedes where i can get a true sporty Avant with gazoline engine and not with those ridiculous fake exhaust pipes and artificially made engine sound in the car. This car is a real disgrace to Audi and completely disqualifies the Audi management who decided to destroy the Smodel reputation.

As long as SQ7 as the big SUV could have TDI engine, I dont feel like packing up TDI to A6 model is a good way to follow up with legend of sport variants of A6. No idea if they said anything about RS6 engine yet. But if they come up with V8 TDI of SQ7 I might be a little pissed off (not that I want to buy one but sentiment-wise).
I’m guessing Audi left the traditional diffuser with fake exhaust tips for good reason. Now most people can upgrade the exhaust without having to fabricate a new bumper. Just simply remove the fake ones and slide an aftermarket one through.
Nice car, just sad about the diesel option. It would've been nice to offer both options to customers globally. There is a huge chance we will get the diesel in South Africa - not that I'm planning to buy one but I would prefer that people have options (it's their money after all).
