@@vitoralmeida8243 the A6 starts at 62k Euro in Holland and the S6 starts at 112k Euro in Holland! An A6 with options will cost around 70-75k EURO in Holland and an S6 with options will cost around 125-130k EURO in Holland. The S6 is outrageously expensive here...

1999 C5 S6 4.2i - combined with manual gear box; it's killing sleeper machine, still remember that full muscle V8 sound
2006 C6 S6 - golden years of Audi, V10 5.2FSI shared with Lamborghini Gallardo and S8 450HP!
2012 C7 S6 - 4.0bT ok a bit downsized, but actually very light engine in way more lighter car, migh be the most beautiful and fastest S6 though, engine shared again with S8

The C6 S6 was overall a very bad car. Due to the engine hanging over the front axel it had bad understeer and the front end of the car was super heavy, which is not fun at all.

It's always the same, the clock does not convey your feelings in the car. I've had more thrilling accelerations in some 8 second cars than in some sub 6 second cars.
The last S6/S7 did it in 4.4 seconds that's why. And in the US etc the new S6 and S7 have the RS4/RS5 engine with a 2.9TFSI V6 and they do 0-60 in 4.0 secs with real exhausts and real sound!
@hon solo unfortunately, there are some people here that prefer powerful diesels. Not me. The S4/S5 before the facelift in 2019 were petrol. They made em diesel in the B9.5 facelift.

It's still a fast car, just becuase its diesel doesn't make it slow
Power, torque, fuel economy and efficiency. Most people that buy S-cars don't do it to drive sporty. They are mostly used to for long cruises and highway driving. That's why diesel is an optimal alternative.

At least here in Finland they are. We have this thing called Neste BioDiesel. With that fuel a dieselcar produces 12g of co2 per kilomiter compared to an fully electric car that produces 29g of co2 per kilomiter.

Ah typical. Focusing on little details and not seeing the bigger picture. The reason ehy audi has suddenly changed to diesels on their S lineup is due to the fact that idiotic europe wants to ban diesels completely. Now the issue is that modern diesels are greener than petrols, especially hybrid diesels, not to mention they are more reliable and robust. Audi saw whats going on and decided to push their diesel tech and show the world that you cant get rid of diesels. I drove an A5 3.0tdi and it was amazing, loads of power and good mpg, not to mention with a rear muffler delete it sounded like a gtr. People who hate the new S line up just becaus the diesel engine are dumb.
@@waifuracer6516 no what's dumb is building replacing a twin turbo 450hp V8 that'll go O-60 under 4 seconds with a 300 something hp diesel that can't get to 60 in under 5. Eco cars are fine if that's what you want want but the S and RS cars are supposed to be about performance and this is as idiotic as a silent alarm clock because it defeats the whole purpose of it's job and why you got it in the first place.
So, it was 450hp V8 with 4,4 to 100km/h and now it’s 350hp diesel with 5 second? Lol 😂 It should be regular top version of A6 for fuel economy and some mediocre performance. Not the S badged definitely. This car is totally opposite to the Sport.

Previous gen did 4,4s WITHOUT launch control. The new S6 does 5s with LC aaaand about 6,7s without LC. It's terrible, over 2s slower.

Dear God, what happened to the S line up...a diesel ??!? WTH
My guess is the following: S line up is considered for business men who want a relatively efficient but yet fast car so a powerful diesel is the way to go. For the really sporty and insane version of the car you have to buy the rs. Just from a marketing perspective that is quite a smart move because now the rs models are the only true sporty ones and the price you pay for them suddenly seems much more reasonable compared to the s lineup

If you are buying a S/RS car, you can afford the gas and want something exciting under the hood. "quite a smart move" to leave a larger market of sports-sedan buyers (S) to the dust so they can more likely move over to a competitor than pay $30k extra just to stay within Audi and get an RS

Well the diesel SQ7 V8 has been around a while now, so it's not as if this came out of the blue.
The difference is that, being a V8, that actually sounds pretty decent, and being a new model, it doesn't pail in comparison to its predecessor.
This S6 is pretty tragic compared to the old model, which was basically a remap away from being an RS6.

Well, I see where you coming from there, but the idea is to appeal to different buyers. Same reason why Mercedes will offer a C180 all the way up to a C63. The C180 is totally wimpy by most performance standards, but if performance is your thing, they have the AMG line. Those that want MPG above all else will go for the C180. Catering to different tastes I guess.

And im actually ahead of a rs6 in drag race. with just a downpipe cat delete and a stage 2 tune, try doing that with the diesel s6.

The fuel economy of the north american petrol S6 is great, considering the previous gen was a V8 and therefore not something he'd have ever considered. A diesel is really pushing the assumption that S car buyers don't want a "fast" Audi... He makes CAD$300k/year on average but he wouldn't rationalize paying $100k for the RS6.
Anyway; he currently drives a 2016 340i MPP2 and will likely buy a 2020 S7.
@@Rookiereece Businessmen worried about economy shouldn't be looking at an S6, they'd be happy with the standard A6 in 3.0 diesel. The S range is for sporty performance as its branding suggests. The RS6 is a level above that in racing. The S models shouldn't pedestal economy over performance which they've done with this new car.
I can only imagine how much of a bore fest that diesel would be on the track too. At least the V6TT has some excitement at high speeds.

In Europe, diesel engines are being banned by more and more major European cities for environmental reasons, some major German cities included and the list of cities growing steadily.
As Germans are the worlds leaders on diesel tech and have invested quite a lot in that, they want to cash out before diesel are banned totally in Europe.
S-class did lose quite some of its glory with this diesel in my opinion

This mornings papers, diesel sales down 40% in Netherlands last year. In the whole of Europe 16% in last quarter.
Point is, diesel is getting more and more out of grace (except for Germans maybe) and Audi needs to cash out before no one buys a diesel anymore.
I own an S-class myself and have done so for the past 12 years but hell will freeze over before I would buy a diesel S.

The industry said no such thing. It's was NOx emissions that were forcing this, but they fixed that via urea injection. Now, the issue is EU CO2 average regulations. The EU is forcing Audi to do this. It was either this or paying huge fines for going above the CO2 average norms.

Why put diesel on a "sports" car I don't understand Audi
This car is actually really good. My dad bought it last month and we like it a lot. It sounds pretty nice from the outside too and the launch gets your adrenaline pumping. Although I do agree the 4 fake exhaust are a bit pathetic but it looks good at least.
I'm an Audi fanboy but damn those fake exhausts... Look I understand why they went with a diesel, as it's more efficient and a better cruiser but it's just too expensive and not worth the price

Mihnea Preduchin it’s not a downgrade from the v10 the c6 was all show no go, now the c7 was a complete different story the v8tt made it the fastest in its segment and people were getting as low as 3.5 seconds to 60 and 11.7 in the quarter that was supercar levels at the time!

It is possible but it wouldn't be legal. You can get a really nice sound from these V6 diesels with aftermarket exhaust systems.

I bought the last generation S6 simply because it had a petrol V8. I was expecting it to be the last V8 and was assuming the C8 would be a petrol v6, which it is around the rest of the world. The fact it's now a diesel v6 and is 100hp down on the previous model means I'd never consider it. This is effectively a new version of the A6 BiTurbo Diesel C7. What are you thinking Audi?

Why is this still a diesel in Europe? It’s a gas car everywhere else. In this day and age, it should be a hybrid
Well, because in Europe Diesel is much more common for "every day use" than petrol. Because of good reasons actually:
1. Unlike the popular opinion, modern Diesel engines are much more environment friendly than petrol engines.
2. Diesel engines are more efficient, consume less fuel, you have higher range.
3. Diesel is much cheaper than petrol in most of Europe.
4. Specifically for germany, and pretty much like 2.,: At full throttle and max speed on the autobahn, which is the normal state of use for such a "fast" car, a Diesel only consumes about half the fuel compared to a petrol engine. Usually less than 13l/100km actually.
From Audis point of view it's simple: they know that about 90% of the S6s would be bought as a Diesel in Europe anyway, because those would be company cars. The other 10%, most likely private people wanting it as a fun car and therefore as a petrol, are very likely to buy the RS6 instead. So it's just not worth offering it as a petrol, because there is the RS6 as the "fun" car. The S6 is obviously just meant to be the typical every day use luxury company car for all the higher ranked people, which drive a lot. And hybrid has no place in Europe yet, nobody would buy it. Except for Norway.
A drag race between this and the Audi A6 55 TFSI quattro would be really interesting. The 55 TFSI has 340hp and does 0-100 km/h in 5,3 seconds, so the specs of both the cars are really similar.

It's a diesel because it's two tons, carries 5 people & their luggage, can do 0-60 in 5 secs (quicker than a manual Golf R), has 700nm of torque (same as old RS6) yet can do 36.2 mpg. And contrary to this video, it sounds amazing when being driven properly (not revved at idle like kid) both inside and out

The S6 is bigger and some people want that. But I get your point and I don't like these new S6. Previous S4 has the same engine as a previous A6, which I own. Also, the previous S6 had the same engine as the previous A8 - there was pattern and Audi messed it up.

3.0 TDI (350PS) to normal A6. 4.0 TDI (435PS) from SQ7/SQ8 to S6/S7. However, I think that Audi S6/S7 should have 4.0 TFSI (460PS) from Porsche Panamera GTS.

So Audi had 3 engine choices for the s6, without developing anything new: the 2.9 litre twin turbo V6 (petrol) from the Rs4 and the Rs5, which they will use outside Europe; the Diesel V8 4.0 TDi, Tri-Turbo that they currently use in the Audi SQ7 and SQ8; and finally, they could just use the less powerful 3.0 TDi V6 Bi turbo they used in the previous gen a6 and a7. The later is the one they've chosen. Which is not fine. In the previous gen, the car equiped with this engine was not an S-model (nor an RS, obviously), and they new they might get some bad reviews with an S-model with such low powered engine. I think that is more problematic than being a diesel. If Audi had put the tri turbo V8 diesel from the sq7, people would love it, because it would be the perfect rival to the BMW 550d, making them both the best continent-crosser-power-station-wagons. Then, Audi just needed to make the new RS6, which apparently they actually did a good job, and we would have the perfect Audi Station Wagon Duo. So yeah, not a bad call to go Diesel on the S6, just a bad call not to go for the V8 TDI.

@@youridv on paper 540d is 4.7 0-60 and 54 mpg so kinda the same. 540d is not available in the UK so can't compare prices directly. 5 series is a lot better car than this piece of shit though, but that's just my opinion.
