The VivoStick is a decent casual computer for folks looking for a casual Windows 10 PC on a budget. But it lacks the performance that gamers and enthusiasts might be after.

just the review I was waiting for you always come through lon
I love seeing the Blockbuster Movie box in the background. Brings back awesome memories :)
It's actually a PC game. He talked about it in recent livestreams.
Glad you're full time this channel is great
Always love your reviews, and I'm so glad you do so many stick PCs. I love these little things.
These stick PC's look like they would be good for a small business, art studio, etc. Just something to access Etsy, Ebay, Webmail, a bit of Accounting, etc and the like at work without forking out the money for a full PC.
Imagine if Asus makes the update version with a ARM processor, it'll be less bulky, able run with no fan, and slightly faster. But for a pc that small, it's still pretty cool...
I got this device on December last year for $71 , and it does like you said Lon, just for some videos and browsing experiences, but does the job .I just used as a second device if my Nvidia Shield tv 2015 does something wrong. the Wi-Fi is super fast
Great review, Lon. I purchased this computer a few days ago and should receive it today. I will setup a small usb fan pointed at it and see if that will keep it cool enough to keep it from throttling back while running Kodi.
I am running Kodi 17.1 which is now available as an app through the Microsoft Store. It runs 1080 content on the Asus stick just fine without any dropped frames. I am on a 5g wifi connection to my router which is in the same room. Heat didn't seem to be an issue, but the room temperature is quite cool... about 68F. Never needed to use the USB fan.
The micro usb cable is very short cause it is supposed to be plugged on the USB port of the tv next to hdmi port in that way you will not need to use an external power adapter for the 5v needed to make this device work
Can we use Adobe photoshop and illustrator in this pc?
Hi Lon I always enjoy your vids, as it happens I have one of these and was surprised you missed out mentioning the android app that accompanies this device. I'm not sure if there is one for iOS but the Android one is quite handy and allows you to control a lot of the media functions as well as function a mouse/keyboard for the vivostick.
Hi Lon, Great review! Was looking forward to it! I have the ASUS Chromebit. Was wondering if you still have your Chromebit? If so it would be great if you could do an ASUS Chromebit VS an ASUS VivoStick? Thanks Rick PS I like my Chromebit. Oh and it would great if you could do a review on the Intel compute stick with the core M or what ever they call it mow!
iamrlk69 chromebit and Vivostick are two different hardware units with two different software operating system, you can't really compare two of them side-by-side like that cuz they both operate very differently. The main thing is what do you really need to use and or what applications do you mostly use in particular is really the answer to what operating system will do its particular job for what you need.
So of all the computer sticks you have reviewed which one would you recommend?
Tim Chapman I would recommend the one with Intel Core m3 processor or higher, for the lease of decent and average pc usage, in modern time, such as Photoshop, and other light graphics or less media/gaming intensive applications. Intel Compute Stick Core M3 or higher.
Would you recomend this as a thin client?
This type of thing would be much more interesting if they ever get small enough to fit on a key chain and low power enough to run off power provided in future TVs and monitors with USB C charging ports built in.
It would be much more cool to be able to carry a PC the size of a normal thumb drive on a key chain and not need any power bricks to power it.
Lon.. Thanks for the video. I have a question, can you run this without a monitor attached? I need a small, inexpensive way to control a FreePBX box and I was wondering if this could be hooked up to a monitor to set it up and then disconnect it and it still work. I will remote into it to control the PBX via Teamviewer or something. Thanks for the help and the reviews, great as always :) Rick
Very efficient review. Thank you.
Good details and professionally presented. Thank you.
Great review! Does Asus make a 4gig model of this?
I would love to see a review of Samsung Dex! I would love to see your opinion on it :)
I found an Intel compute stick with the core m3 on newegg. I would recommend a review
yshmael nelson it is a great all around decent unit has great reviews and great recommendations to using other operating systems such as Android, Chrome OS, and Linux on any Intel compute stick with core m processors.
The main issue I've experienced with this unit is that it's basically impossible to update windows 10 due to the lack of hard disk space. I have nothing installed on mine and have moved all files to a thumb drive...32GB just isn't enough space for windows 10 and the updates. There is a feature to use external storage for the update but it still doesn't work and continues to ask me to clear up 9GB of disk space. It was fine until 2019...
How well does it work as a travel computer though? Hotel room?
Great review!
Can you upload a review of the Qube PC Stick. Thanks and more Power
hey lon, is there any intel compute stick 3rd gen coming up this year? that might me interesting
this would be great for little Tails/Tor pc, or a diy laptop when combined with the Motorola lapdoc, can you please try this.
you can leave it on Windows if you want/need to tho 😛
While we connect it through HDMI port Can we connect it to the device(moniter) via USB cable for power without using a power adapter?
Hi LON, In your personal opinion, would this work good for logging in remotely to another computer? I know you stated about the thermal throttling while gaming and "stressing" out the device. I am just looking for a semi cheap way to make it so i can remote into my other computer while I am on the road traveling.
Thanks
mike
It should work fine for that.
How does this compare to the Azulle mini PC Stick?
Opinion...
I have transferred my DVD collection to digital files.
Looking for something, to attache to my non smart TV, for playback of these movies. Most under 1Gig each.
Using the standard video player software, standard with Windows 10.
I would also like to run MAM and some other old style gaming emulators.
And the occasional RUclips videos.
Basically multi media player if you will.
Opinions, experiences ?
Does it run things like Netflix through the browser okay? Or does the 24fps thing stop it from performing?
Runing it on the 2.4ghz band is recommended if using USB 3.0? What year is it?!
How does this perform with zoom or Skype with Logitech HD webcam? Is it suitable for video conferencing?
is the fan a high pitch annoying whine like in the Intel stick second generation?
USB 2.0 is plenty fast for WIFI, no need to use An USB 3 port better suited for a fast memory stick for that.
Would the Asus PC Stick work great as a receiver for Xbox in-home game steaming?
Since it has USB slots, can I hook up an iPad to it as a monitor (using Duet or a similar app)?
Hey Lon, I have purchased this stick for thanks giving , my initial impressions were just as yours (good for web browsing speed enough) , but over the period of time, it just got slower and slower. I just use it for basic web browsing. Any thoughts on how to speed it up?
look up windows tweaks and turning off the built in spyware called telemetries. Also, restart it instead of just shutting down, it will clear some memory. Also, check for log files getting too big, and if sunlight from a window is overheating it.
@@gristlevonraben thanks ... I tried all those , but no luck , think it's old now to do anything especially with new updates , it just getting slower and slower
@@sumanbabualapati There was one other thing I forgot to mention. usb cables and usb recharge and power cables usually only last a year or two, they literally burn up the copper inside slowly. I'd try a new powersupply and at least a cable before discarding it.
@@gristlevonraben sure will do that
Hi, can I plug this to a Samsung 50inch TV to run Netflix and RUclips only?
Good day ... can you let me know... I have Asus MB16AP Zenscreen Go 15.6" which I connect to my laptop through a type C port .... my question is I have the Asus Vivo Stick and I would like to hook it to the Asus MB16AP by buying USB C to HDMI Adapter and connect the Vivo stick to the adapter and the C type to my Asus MB16AP ? thank you
Can it be connected to a Samsung or Ipad tablet instead of a TV ?
What version of the compute stick did you test?
will you review the switch?
Dio Brando obviously
+Dio Brando not planning on it, sorry!

Hey Lon Did you want to?
@@soapboi5420 rekt
I paid $87 for mine :)) really liking it
EpicMeme EMPEROR could you edit videos on it
would this PC be good to for Skype and Google hangout
Robert Jean-Louis those are basic tasks for low end windows PC units, so I believe it can.
Is this a good device to run PowerPoint and PDF files for presentations?!cause I need one beside my laptop in university?!thnx
Just bought it. Can't stream at any resolution can't can't even browse. Creepy slow. WiFi is hopelessly slow. Tried at various locations in the house where other wireless devices work just fine, an old PS3, old IPhone 5, old laptops, $50 aging no name android table that I got 2 Christmases ago.
Would this be good for remote desktop computing? Also please review the yoga A12. 😃
Russ Cooke yes I believe that any windows PC can run any remote desktops. you just need to check out the software and hardware capability.
I would buy one but for me 2gb of ram is just low, I can´t belive they still release stuff with 2gb ram, for win10 to work properly i will wait for something with at least 4gb of ram.
Hi there ! Great review! I want to know if I can somehow charge or power up this thing in the car? Is there any way I can use some HDMI to USB converter to power it up via lighter input? I am trying to figure out how to have such a thing in my car and have the plex installed on it ... we are traveling a lot and we would like to bring the child media with us but using the 4G on my car and VPN to my Plex server back home is not a solution ...will be glad if you can share some thoughts on this. Thanks a lot !
Get a Car Power converter
Could it work with Photoshop?
Lon
Any idea if this thing can be used on a touch screen. I have an idea to use this as a kitchen calendar/grocery list/photo display. Nothing crazy, Im thinking this will be just enough with a 24-27 inch monitor. If know about that I would appreciate it
I would invest in a cheap tablet and a wall mount for it. :) This wont do as a touchscreen. :)
Would i be able to link a internal hardrive using 3.0 USB To SATA? Would be awesome to run exe files from the harddrive i do a lot of save editing with switch modding stuff.
Hi Lon and everyone; does it run win10 32 or 64bit?
Does not turn on.replaced bio battery.please help
I am looking for a device that would read my movie from my WD external hd that wont work on my tv right now so i have to use my msi cubi as a bridge to make it work but would rather use something else and something not too expensive and easy to use/set up...any suggestion are welcome Ty
I'm thinking about plugging this into a monitor and running powerpoint for 3 days at a trade show, for sure still shots and some embedded video. Does anyone have some actual experience with these that could weigh in on if this would be a good use for this stick?
I won't get into any stick pc's until they can be powered over hdmi. imagine how handy it would be to just plug it in, then have your wireless mouse and keyboard over bluetooth or some other protocol, no setup required, just plug and play.
It is plug and play :D Plug it in, plug ac in. Voila. ;) Plug and Play ;)
does it support CEC through HDMI port?
Is this made for gaming pc
What good for movies? How about yoga v mac
Would I be able to load QuickBooks on this?
I'm planning to buy one to run 24/7 at home so I can remotely connect my local networks from outside. Anyone have any experience running this 24/7? Does it overheat?
HI, CAN WE RUN WINDOWS 8.1 IN ASUS VIVOSTICK PC TS10
Does this works with the Ubuntu ?
can't wait until these chips get higher clock speeds with quad cores or better CPUs like +i3 or maybe even AMD APU
Jimmy Peña I have been waiting for years from since the first intel compute stick came out. And that is a loong time, even though I have never purchase a pc on a stick before.
But can it run world of tanks??
Is it mhl compatible?
as soon as he said intel atom cherrytrail & 2gb of ram, I exited this video
Adam Jenssen why?
link 4448 🤨
I bought one for $69 US and returned it within a week because it was loaded with bloatware and 2 GB of RAM is not enough to do much of anything. It would be fun to run a light Linux distro, but not Windows.
I didn't see any bloatware on mine - I wonder if they were selling bloated up versions for the lower pricetag.
The stick I just purchased from Amazon for $107 also had no bloatware on it.
Light weight linux might be more suitable for this
Can you edit videos on it?
Lon, would you mind trying hdhomerun prime viewer on it and see if it will run the DRM channels?
+Galacticaxis sorry I no longer have I but drm channels should work!
Thank you. Maybe going forward you should always show compatible devices the can view DRM content with hdhomerun prime...because sadly, the only thing I have that can do so is a Windows 10 laptop. My firetv with the hdhomerun view app can't. Neither can my nexus player, and neither can my Plex QNAP server with the hdhomerun plugin installed. I use cox cable and even the SD channels are DRM protected. I seem to have thrown a lot of money away just trying to get this stuff to work.
Thanks Lon for your reply, love the show. I've actually been following the silicon dust forum so I can be aware when they make advances on Fire TV and Android TV DRM.
gaming on that thing would be the last thing i would think of
Lon, it's funny how you say this PC is good for basic word processing, internet, movies but no much else when 9 years ago, an eeePC with an Atom N280 was also "just enough" for word, internet, movies and mail. (and "barely" still is). This X5-Z8350 scores over a thousand on PassMark while the N280 only scores around 300 ! What is going on here? Are we too spoiled or are the demands of software constantly increase with advances in hardware?
I think software is definitely driving the hardware requirements further. i.e. You couldn't hope to play hi def video on that old PC from 9 years ago as you can on this one.
*Hey Lon,Big Fan from India*,Hey! Do one of those D-Wave Comps If possible.*
Raghavendra Konkathi you are so funny,.....not....
question ! is buying from efox safe ? or dealextreme ?
I dont have any experience with efox, but dx should be fine. But I would suggest to avoid any offers with suspiciously low price.
Tomáš Krompolc for instance the ZUK Z2, cause I'm only 14 and on a really tight budget
Thank you, was looking into these cheap computers now I see they are pretty much useless unless you want to run Office or programs like that. I want something like this but I will be using Kodi in it.
mind your watch strap
I appreciate the gesture, Lon, but this is like a car with a one gallon gas tank that's missing a tire, two doors, and three seats. it will work but it's really only half a car at best. This is half a computer. For twice the money you can get this computer you reviewed and accomplish the intention of this underspec'd unit --
ruclips.net/video/WvWX0MTo7WA/видео.html
Agreed, but then again... the ASUS VivoStick is perfect for Kiosks and office screens that need to display KPI information.
Run autocad properly
why review this stick since it is again 2GB RAM? it make no difference from other PC stick in the market ... looking from the surface. I did not finish watching your review. Feeling repeated. Maybe i am wrong.
Actually from my review there is a difference here. I review things because people are searching for specific products and those make up about 80% of my overall views per month.
Ok Mr Lon. Keep up the good work.
Don't tell Jeff Dunham about this. He will have a new puppet "Jose the Windows 10 PC"
"On a stick......!!!"
can you install windows 7 or even xp on a stick pc like this?
I think it's 8 or 10 only.
That's too bad, since Windows 7 does give a slightly better performance on slower hardware.
No ethernet port??
Did you see any? Good, then NO ;)
how about linux like lxle?
christopher anderson good luck with Linux on cherrytrail bud
Is it incompatible? I don't know that much about this stuff, hence the initial question. Perhaps you can help explain why?
Okay, thank you for the information, it is greatly appreciated.
I just want to buy it for Netflix and to watch some movies in MP4 or MKV format. And they're not 4k videos, mostly 720p some are 1080p. Is this computer capable of performing that?
Thanks
It is faster than my work tablet (Asus Transformer Mini)... It only reaches 5742 Octane Score....
Azulle plus nearly better.. few for two Internet connection, extra storage and smooth style. sure, it only one Big thing.. it still can play full Minecraft..
l can wait for it..

it has a ether processer then my laptop..
seriously Lon, something for "the poor family"? They would be much better off with something like a used computer. I have a HP 8200 (Core i5-2400 etc) and they seem to retail around 100 USD and will run circles around the stick.
Let's face it - the stick is a funny item, but doesn't make a lot of sense.
Håkan Rohdin HP??? now that's a name brand to laugh about. I could disagree with you more, because PC units are venturing further in size and performance versus older systems. It may not make sense to you now because you're just using basic tasks like surfing the internet and do emails, but older slower PC's can't handle modern time applications and graphics such as 1080p for playing media and RUclipss. In addition, now the norm is capable with having built in hardwares such as Bluetooth and AC Wi-Fi connection, for speed and better wireless range capability. But if all you need is surfing and checking out emails, basic things like that, then you don't need anything new to fit your need.
Hey long this thing play gta San Andreas like a champ
I buy one everytime I see a new model of these, I have no Idea why... have a bunch of these laying around lol

These manufacturers really must "sacrifice" the dimensions for better cooling. I think nobody would mind if this device would be as big as kangaroo pc, for example.
Stefan Batrinache kangaroo PC is just not that good...
It was just an example for it's size. My point was that is ok if the device is a little bigger. As big as a phone, for example.

If it had one more USB :)
$10 for a 4 port USB hub would fix that issue...
