Just because you are not able to press two buttons at the same time, doesn't mean the other ones are uncivilized typists. I average at about 95 WPM and I never hit the right shift key. I don't need two hands to type an upper A,S,D or even Y (i have a QWERTZ). Now your issue might be that you have bigger hands or thicker fingers making it difficult to hit the left shift together with another left key. Or you are just that kind of person that uses only the pointer or the middle finger to type. However, just because we are different, doesn't mean we don't know how to type. Good luck!
Best buy has this laptop with Intel core i7 and 16 GB of ram for $850. If you or someone you know has a college email, you can get another $150 off. So Intel i7, dedicated graphics, 16gb ram, and 256gb ssd for $700 is pretty good.
I got mine Lenovo Yoga 710 15 (15" screen) with i7, 16GB Ram and Nvidia dedicated Graphics....and 256GB SSD for 899.....and about a week later the same laptop in the same store was 1199 .... now I saw that is back to under $900. really nice laptop...I'm kinda missing numeric pad but it's ok!
Yeah, I like it! It looks very sharp and fast. Didn't yet check its performance to the limit...but I'm sure it can handle a lot!... I got mine for data analysis...so it will be mostly used for data science (lots of excel, phyton, R and other programming/coding languages/tools) ...so the only down side would be lack of full keyboard (It would be much easier for me to work using numeric pad) Over all 9/10 .... fan noise also bothers sometimes.
was that for the 14inch model or the 15 inch model? I would really like the 14 inch model with i7 and integrated graphics processor but I can't find it anywhere
Been watching since 10k subs, still the same honest, uninfluenced reviews which are why I've stuck around. I've purchased several products due to your reviews, keep up the good work man.
yeah this laptop was quite an adventure. been having it for 4 years already, and it always had some issues. im savvy enough to have dealt with them myself, although at times i did have to hand it in to a professional. every unit had some defect of some sort, and every unit was unique in terms of build quality. mine was always flimsy and rattly. the flex in the chassis led to motherboard problems, the webcam wont be detected, closing the lid wont close the laptop, cant use it in tablet mode, since the keyboard and trackpad wont get disabled when folding it(since its the same mechanism that detects the laptopts lid closing). the fan!!! yes... f*** the fan on this thing, had to install notebookfancontrol to turn the fan off at all times and keep it passive, cause the noise is unbearable. yeah, for the money i paid, was expecting a top notch level of quality. at least i played some good titles on it (until the 940mx died lol)
The shift button is driving me absolutely crazy !!!!!! Just got this laptop yesterday and it is THE first thing I noticed. Might do what you suggested and get a wireless keyboard! Great review.
Another stupid problem is that the microphones are right above the fan exhausts, which makes skyping impossible if you don't want to torture the person on the other end of the line with a sound simmilar to a vacuum cleaner
Great job on 100k Lon. The yoga series is an interesting solution to the 2 in 1 problem. Performance vs cooling. I was looking into them last xmas and really wanted one that separates screen from keyboard but the tech isn't quite there yet for that AND reasonable graphic performance. I got a normal laptop with an AMD A4 + gpu. Your Lenovo there would eat it for breakfast.
I have Lenovo yoga 710 11inch and its by fall my favorite lap top ever!! my only complaint is display has some glare during day (just like all touch display) and as he mention on the video the shift key is very small and I often still hit up key when I meant to hit shift. other than that its super portable, absolute silence, amazing display quality, pretty fast, and affordable. I recommend this laptop Lenovo yoga 710 to any non gamer who like to watch movies time to time. this does runs some old games like star craft and League of legends such
Just got this laptop a few days ago and boy do i love it. Yes it weights 3.5 pounds but its perfect. It works super fast and its just a nice looking laptop overall. I have gotten many complements on it. I got it at best buy for 700 dollars. If you're a college student you get 150 dollars of it. I recommend you act quick guys.
That DDR3 vram is a letdown. 940MX is available with GDDR5 and it would make a huge difference so I don't understand the reason why manufacturers don't use that. It can't be that much more expensive.
+Lon Seidman Have you seen the Acer Aspire E 15? It's a laptop that has nearly all the same specs for $550. 6200U Check. 940MX Check. 8 GB RAM Check. 256 SSD Check. Not sure about the wifi but assuming you can always upgrade it's a great deal. For the price of this laptop you can get the Dell Inspiron 7559 which upgrades your CPU and GPU to a real i5 and a 960m. I think you missed the value oriented mark but keep the videos coming. I look forward to your review of Apollo Lake SoC's when they come out. Hopefully manufacturers do it right and there is no more thermal throttling on tablets that make the previous generation better when it comes to gaming. Just youtube Z8700 vs Z3775. Heh. My current on the radar tech I'm looking out for is a 2 in 1 specifically tablet + keyboard that can do Overwatch at 1080p and a Laptop that can do overwatch at 4k. Let me know if you come across any budget oriented offerings that can do these things! Thanks Lon. I know I may have to wait another generation or two until I find it in a price I like and can afford.
very very nice review! i am expecting same review for lenovo yoga 910, spectare Xps 360 (dedicated graphics) please dont forget to cover same stuff in those videos. thumbs up
Good job Lon! Great as always. Any opinion on the durability of the hinges in particular? Seriously considering the Thinkpad Yoga 14 (Best Buy's exclusive Thinkpad Yoga 460 here in the US), but a little wary of hinges wearing out sooner than I'd like.
Hi Lon,you missed a lot of things..any info on the webcam+microphone quality?ssd speed test?thermals?screen brightness, color accuracy, viewing angles?the touchpad? I think it will be easier for you if you just make a list of all the things to look at when you are reviewing a laptop,so you never forget anything :) I am a subscriber of another youtuber "MobileTechReview" and you can get a lot of nice ideas from there too I think.
alright, but the webcam is of high importance,I specifically looked for webcam quality when I bought a laptop recently,as adding an external one doesn't help the mobility of the device. Please cover that next time
Great review! And I just made my mind on purchasing this product. In terms of increasing hard drive storage, am I able to add another piece of m.2 or I have to change a piece? (I guess it has m.2 type)
hey lon ! first of all congratulations of the 100k subs and i have a doud well im in a budget and i want ti buy this Laptop around next year for collage and also so to play games like Star wars battlefront or something like that and mi doud is if i buy next year used how much will it cost me and if the Laptop is good for my use?
IMO the heaviness is an incredible asset because its made with metal chassis and is incredibly durable for its slim profile. Just something you didn't mention
Very nice review but I have a question. I'm not sure if I missed it or you didn't mention but does it suffer from throttling? Considering it's really slim I'd imagine it'll have hard time managing airflow and cooling properly. I had a Sony Vaio Pro 13 that throttled very badly and it had a similar slim profile.
I just picked up the Yoga 710 15 inch version and it is a fantastic machine for the price/specs. So Bestbuy had it on sale for $950.00 and with the student discount, it came in at $750.00-- all that for a 15 inch, i7, 16gb ram, 256ssd and 940mx. It is sturdy and the hinges work nicely. The only gripe I have was that the screen colors were a little bleached, but I found an ICC profile online that fixed that. I don't use the right shift key, but can see it being a problem if you do. Battery time is around 7 hours doing browsing and videos. I play Fifa 16 and Rocket League and get good frames.
Go to this webpage: www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Yoga-710-14ISK-Convertible-Review.170403.0.html Then scroll down to the section "Display" and you'll see a link there to download an accurate ICC color profile for the Yoga 710 screen.
Hi I am planning to buy same one on best buy on student deals after tax i am getting it for $779. But i heard some cons like some screen bleeding, Noise from fan, keyboard issues and speaker issues.. Is it true ? or can i buy this one.. I am student i am looking hard core coding and web designing part, is it suitable for it or not ? is it worth buying or not ? Please help me with your reply as i am spending huge amount on it as a student..
All IPS screens have some light bleed, that said this laptop has very little-- certainly not enough where you would notice it in 99.9% of normal use. The fan does get a little audible when you push the computer, like playing games for example-- but again, that is to be expected as the video processor and cpu need the extra cooling. It's not that loud. The speakers are good quality, but the sound is a little muffled because they are mounted beneath the laptop. It's not horrible, but not the best place for them to be installed. I use a headset so not an issue. I code using VB and also do some video editing/Photoshop and the laptop handles the tasks very well. In all honesty I like using it more than my 15 inch Macbook Pro and custom Sager laptop. Can't beat the specs, size and weight.
+footfiles hey dude, how's they keyboard? I am also a college student and was planning to buy the surface book but then I came across this. my main demand is a good keyboard because I have to code a lot and people say surface book has the best keyboard alongside macbooks. is 710s keyboard as good as your macbook? and what's about the trackpad?
Hey Lon (please oh please answer). The link you gave us for laptop is Lenovo official site. A few days ago it had the "Buy at Best Buy" button and the other button. Now it has "Temporarily Unavailable" in place of the Buy buttons. I work at Best Buy and know for a fact we don't have them online anymore (not even a sold out page). We still have the 710 14" with just Intel 620 but we only have the 940mx in the 15.6" models (in stores). Do you know why 14" 710 with 940mx went unavailable? You reviewed it just in August! I really want one no matter the cost. Thanks for your time.
Where you able to find why they took it out from their web site? I'm as well looking for this laptop but the only one they have at best buy is the one with the intel graphic card :(
Lon. Seeing as how Chrome has problems playing back at a certain video resolution, try firefox or the edge browser and recommend one of those for viewers.
Is there any Stylus Pen you can use with the Lenovo Yoga 710? Like the stylus from the Lenovo Thinkpad, Surface Book or other. With which Pen it will work?
+Lon Seidman Could you give another link to this laptop which includes the 940mx with 2GB graphics card because I cant buy it from Lenovo. I could only see this laptop with a 520HD intel graphics cards on best buy.
Which laptop is best Lenovo ThinkPad T460 or Lenovo Yoga 710? Also Lenovo Yoga 710 have high configuration and cheaper than Lenovo ThinkPad T460. Please suggest.
I am looking for a compact yet powerful ultrabook under 1000$, this would have been perfect. I went to a nearby tech store and took a look at it. I would have bought it but the right shift key makes it unuseably for me. Very unfeatunate but I cannot get used to that. You played yourself, Lenovo. Why didn't they chose the same arrow key layout as with the Thinkpads?
will it work with a stylus like a wacom (thinkpad yoga 14)? and any way to get over the no-palm rejection. I would like to take notes on this, and the thinkpad yoga 14 from best buy comes with the pen and has palm rejection technology, the screen on this however, is much, much better. Thanks in advance :)
+Jose Galvan ultra books lack ethernet and other important ports. Type c allows you to add an external gpu or expansion Ports for more USB, a power adapter etc. Most newer ultra books have them in the same price range.
I hope this isn't too late, but I'm in Australia and wondering if I can buy this laptop with your US link? I tried and it works with certain payment methods but it didn't specify whether I'd be receiving a US or AU power adapter with it.
I need a laptop for lectures at my university. I was going to buy Lenovo Ideapad 710s but now Im not sure. I'm a gamer and Yoga 710 with nvidia seems better. Can you help me? Which laptop should I chose? I don't usually play new games but The Witcher 3 or Overwatch at 30fps would be awesome.
hi, i own this laptop and have for about 3 years. ... i'm a bit late on this. but i can. do not ever call anybody with your laptop's mic, if you have any inch of respect for their eardrums
I would like to see touch enabled games tested using tablet mode. I have found that some of the touch screens do not work well, and it would be helpful to test a couple of games that utilize Win10 touch controls.
One year later and there still isn't a better option than this. Why are there no 13" 2-1's with a dedicate GPU being made in 2017? Driving me bonkers. This thing is impossible to find because no one is selling it.
Lon as usual great review/content! This product really interests me or something like the Xiaomir Air 12 - great review there too. The shift key placement would probably also drive me crazy and I too am not a fan of the one-piece, mal-engineered power brick. While I can not offer a solution about the keyboard I have come across power extension cables on Amazon which help. These are one foot, male to female pack of five, UL listed for under $10. Originally purchased to save space on power strips it also converts one-step power bricks/wall warts into two-step. Hi! I don't know if you will see this message here, but do you think this computer would also be suitable to do video editing? I'm trying to find a not-too-expensive and handy computer which can run Adobe Premier Pro. And yeah, I'm a college student ;-) Regards from Norway
Any word on whether you can upgrade the ram and SSD? I need to run a few VMs for the day job, and 8 gigs just doesn't leave much room to work with. As a lefty, with a bad habit of only using the left shift, I'm willing to call the reduction of the right shift key a feature, even!
Best buy has a 16 GB version with Intel i7. It is currently $850 but if you or someone you know has a college email, you can get another $150 off. So intel i7, GPU, 16gb ram, and 256gb ssd for $700.
For somebody looking for the lightest laptop possible with a graphics card for light gaming, is this a good option? I need the laptop for taking notes in college too, but I have a very bad back, so my 15 inch hp pavilion really isn't a great choice for me anymore....
This is a fantastic laptop I'll be returning... The specs are great, and the built is top of the line. So why am I returning it? Just like he said, that stupid keyboard layout is so upsetting that I just can't enjoy using this computer to type and program. Considering I'm a developer, that's kinda important so I will be returning this laptop :( If only the keyboard was laid out normally, this laptop would have been a 10/10!
I love that shift key placement. I never use right shift key and that arrow key is perfect.
I knew I wasn't the only one
THANK YOU YES I always found it kind of sad that everyone is bitching about that shift key.
+youshinosakura +Simpy Trash +JeremyLinisTOOGOOD I'm guessing you three aren't super fast touch typists then. If you type properly, then using both left and right shift keys are important. Instead of smacking caps lock on and off, When you want to make a letter uppercase, with a letter typed with your right hand, you use the left shift. Likewise, when you want to make a letter typed with your left hand uppercase, you use the right shift. Just because you three are uncivilized typists doesn't make A KEY INVENTED FOR THAT VERY REASON obsolete, civilized typists bitch for a reason unlike you three. lol.
Good luck!

The disclaimer alone wins you a thumbs-up!

+Tyler Lim is gaming playable??????????????
im also watching this on my new Yoga. best laptop Ive ever bought. ready to download some music software
VAMSI DONT BUY IT. BUY MSI OR SOMETHING. it has a really bad gpu. i cant even get stable 60 fps ON MINECRAFT .

Hello fellow r
Best buy has this laptop with Intel core i7 and 16 GB of ram for $850. If you or someone you know has a college email, you can get another $150 off. So Intel i7, dedicated graphics, 16gb ram, and 256gb ssd for $700 is pretty good.

Vitalie Bucsa Are you liking it? Its either this or the dell inspiron 13 7000 series, with i7, 12gb ram, 512 GB ssd. No dedicated graphics however.
+Vitalie Bucsa Thanks!
was that for the 14inch model or the 15 inch model? I would really like the 14 inch model with i7 and integrated graphics processor but I can't find it anywhere

Same. My mousepad was coming apart within months. Scratched easily. Slow. Many problems. Currently having issues with it not charging now.
Yogas are great!
i read that the 710 has a annoingly loud fan noise. is that true?
yes
You are awesome. I, for one, really appreciate the transparency regarding affiliate links, paid reviews, etc.. Subscribed!
The shift button is driving me absolutely crazy !!!!!! Just got this laptop yesterday and it is THE first thing I noticed. Might do what you suggested and get a wireless keyboard! Great review.
I asked for a review of this laptop from so many youtubers. Glad to see one finally. Great work.
Another stupid problem is that the microphones are right above the fan exhausts, which makes skyping impossible if you don't want to torture the person on the other end of the line with a sound simmilar to a vacuum cleaner

Yay just bought this one and it should get here today, good to see that I chose a good laptop for college.
Great Review, your channel deserves more than 100,000 subscribers tbh.

how does it perform with 3d modelling and cad

Good job Lon! Great as always.
Any opinion on the durability of the hinges in particular? Seriously considering the Thinkpad Yoga 14 (Best Buy's exclusive Thinkpad Yoga 460 here in the US), but a little wary of hinges wearing out sooner than I'd like.
Awesome. Thanks! Congrats on 100k
Awesome review! How does this compare with the 710s with respect to screen, keyboard and speaker quality?
Great video as always. Just one question. How much mm key travel it has?
Hi Lon,you missed a lot of things..any info on the webcam+microphone quality?ssd speed test?thermals?screen brightness,color accuracy,viewing angles?the touchpad?

Very comprehensive review. Also thank you for the weight in kg as, being British, I am most definitely a follower of the metric system
great review man
damns the review was soo good and detailed :) i might buy one for my college soon :)
in 2017 I'll be picking up the 4k i7 model new for under $900, looks like a great value!

We still have the 710 14" with just Intel 620 but we only have the 940mx in the 15.6" models (in stores). Do you know why 14" 710 with 940mx went unavailable? You reviewed it just in August! I really want one no matter the cost. Thanks for your time.
+NRG I will have to check with them on that, not sure why they'd stop the best version of it!
Thanks for looking into it Lon!
Where you able to find why they took it out from their web site? I'm as well looking for this laptop but the only one they have at best buy is the one with the intel graphic card :(
My ThinkPad T420 gen 2 i5 does 4k(RUclips) no drama! Lol. Cool vid as usual Lon! X
wow this was very helpful thank you I know I should get this now
Lon, what do you know about the Lenovo Ideapad 710s? You should do a review on it!!
Yup. I fell I love with this laptop
Thank you, Lon.TV: will you recommend for Adobe After Effects & Premiere? looking to find an affordable video editing laptop.
Sure they'll run decently on here. Not as fast as an i7 desktop (or an i7 laptop for that matter) but adequate.
Hello, great review...
My only question is if the keys "lock" when you are using it in tablet mode?
Thanks :D
Lon. Seeing as how Chrome has problems playing back at a certain video resolution, try firefox or the edge browser and recommend one of those for viewers.
That keyboard and AC adapter are deal breakers on an otherwise really nice machine.
What would you rather buy, this one, the Lenovo Yoga 710 or the Asus Zenbook UX330UA
Great video man !
Is there any Stylus Pen you can use with the Lenovo Yoga 710?
Like the stylus from the Lenovo Thinkpad, Surface Book or other. With which Pen it will work?
f
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you can use the pen. There is no digitizer screen that supports it.
SimenKE how is it working?
+Lon Seidman Could you give another link to this laptop which includes the 940mx with 2GB graphics card because I cant buy it from Lenovo. I could only see this laptop with a 520HD intel graphics cards on best buy.
Which laptop is best Lenovo ThinkPad T460 or Lenovo Yoga 710?
Also Lenovo Yoga 710 have high configuration and cheaper than Lenovo ThinkPad T460. Please suggest.
You us got 100K and growing fast.
Very nice stage design ... 😍
Great review!
will it work with a stylus like a wacom (thinkpad yoga 14)?
and any way to get over the no-palm rejection. I would like to take notes on this, and the thinkpad yoga 14 from best buy comes with the pen and has palm rejection technology, the screen on this however, is much, much better.
Thanks in advance :)
Great review! Thanks
Totally agree with the shift key
do you suggest this one or the yoga 510(of the same serie)? I will use this for study, use matlab a lot..not gaming, i am worried for the 510 battery
I bought the version of this laptop that didn't come with a graphics card, but does it still have space for a graphics card? Yoga 710-15ISK
Lenovo yoga 710 vs Lenovo yoga 900. Which one is better, any suggestions?
Nice review...im thinking of buying it..😁
Okay, I'm starting saving my money right now (college is only a few years ahead for me).
by then something better would have come out
Why isnt Thunderbolt 3 being utilized more? Is it too expensive?
Shame there is no USB type c. This was the only feature which stopped me. It has everything I needed. Perhaps they'll release a 715 with USB type c?
get an adapter
Adapter? lol. Looks like you don't understand type c with thunderbolt.
+Ricky T what is It for?
+Jose Galvan ultra books lack ethernet and other important ports. Type c allows you to add an external gpu or expansion Ports for more USB, a power adapter etc. Most newer ultra books have them in the same price range.
Oh what type of computers exactly are you talking about?
I hope this isn't too late, but I'm in Australia and wondering if I can buy this laptop with your US link? I tried and it works with certain payment methods but it didn't specify whether I'd be receiving a US or AU power adapter with it.
I need a laptop for lectures at my university. I was going to buy Lenovo Ideapad 710s but now Im not sure. I'm a gamer and Yoga 710 with nvidia seems better. Can you help me? Which laptop should I chose?
I don't usually play new games but The Witcher 3 or Overwatch at 30fps would be awesome.
Hi, thanks for the nice video!
Problems with the fan have often been reported quite often. Can you confirm this?
hi, i own this laptop and have for about 3 years.
... i'm a bit late on this. but i can. do not ever call anybody with your laptop's mic, if you have any inch of respect for their eardrums
Like you I type without looking.. it would really bother me if they just moved keys around.
what laptop can be its rival? what 2-in-1 laptops can you recommend?
I would like to see touch enabled games tested using tablet mode. I have found that some of the touch screens do not work well, and it would be helpful to test a couple of games that utilize Win10 touch controls.
Can you confirm that you're actually able to upgrade the SSD? Is there place for an additional HDD/SSD or will you have to replace the current one?
I can find this used excellent condition $500 buy it now!!! Very good deal budget beast.
hi lon, I am not a resolution hog, if I decided to go with 720p on the smaller screen, would it run smoother, thanks lon.
One year later and there still isn't a better option than this. Why are there no 13" 2-1's with a dedicate GPU being made in 2017? Driving me bonkers. This thing is impossible to find because no one is selling it.
Hey Lon , I'm confused between a Microsoft surface pro 4 (i5 4gb model) and the lenovo yoga 710. Please help to decide.
Thanks for the vid, does this do Miracast?
Hi! I don't know if you will see this message here, but do you think this computer would also be suitable to do video editing? I'm trying to find a not-too-expensive and handy computer which can run Adobe Premier Pro. And yeah, I'm a college student ;-)
Regards from Norway
It's now unavailable on the Lenovo website.
Is it good for gaming ?? answer fast plz
Hey +Lon Seidman, is this good for video editing and Adobe Premiere
what gaming graphic card would you recommend to upgrade the lenovo yoga 710?
For somebody looking for the lightest laptop possible with a graphics card for light gaming, is this a good option?
I need the laptop for taking notes in college too, but I have a very bad back, so my 15 inch hp pavilion really isn't a great choice for me anymore....
what is the size difference between the lenovo yoga 710 and macbook
Is there any digital pens that'll work on the 710? I need one for Photoshop, but nothing I've found mentions the 710 in its compatibility lists.
it wouldn't break even if I fold it all the time... Right?
Says the product is unavailable, and I can't find this product anywhere on other resellers. Any suggestion where to find it?
This is a fantastic laptop I'll be returning... The specs are great, and the built is top of the line. So why am I returning it? Just like he said, that stupid keyboard layout is so upsetting that I just can't enjoy using this computer to type and program. Considering I'm a developer, that's kinda important so I will be returning this laptop :( If only the keyboard was laid out normally, this laptop would have been a 10/10!
