Great video. I've totally disassembled my YJ for a complete restoration. My transmission mount parts are strewn all through a Tupperware box. Your video will help me reassemble. Lol
Will a worn transmission mount let the transfer case drop enough to rub the skid plate on the back edge. That’s what I have now. So far it’s looking like the plate has rubbed a hole by the drain plug. Seeping fluid from this point. Any comments or advice. New transfer mount bushing and maybe JB weld the hole?
Also.... I'm replacing the mount and found just a flat piece of steel that would be sandwiched between the tranny and the mount. It also extended out to catch the torque isolator. This piece is not similar to the broken piece you had welded and O Reilly can't find the part either. My question is does that piece you repaired change the elevation of the tranny if used. Wondering f this is why I have an issue with the TC rubbing the skid plate. My skid plate has 2" spacers. I will try adjusting the space smaller and see if that brings the TC up away from the SP without giving me driveshaft vibration.
I watched your video, the way I seen it the skid plate is really what is holding up the transmission and transfer. There is no other brackets or cross member hold the transmission up is this correct? PS this is a very good video, very helpful thank you.
Yep. That is correct. There is no other cross member holding the transmission and transfer case up. The skid plate is pretty heavy and designed to hole it up. Thanks for watching!
Do you think this bracket could be removed without dropping the skidplate? I always try to avoid playing roulette with 30 year old hardware whenever possible.
Why you have to put back spacers .. your yj is stock.. not lifted .. also my yj they put 2 inch spacers at time my yj is not lifted .. can i remove them???
I know this video is old, but I was wondering if those skid plate spacers are stock? Or does the skid plate bolt directly to the frame with no spacers at all.. thanks to anybody who takes the time to answer this ...
I was wondering the same thing. My 1995 yj has no spacers. At least I do not think so. I had to have the CAT replaced and after I got it back there were no spacers so not sure. I would also like to have someone in a video show how to tighten that third spacer and nut that is part of the rear mount assembly
Wish i watched all those videos you posted but i did not and my transmission fell "slightly". I was able to get it back up and put the skid back in place however the mount is not lining up, needs to be pulled to the driver side by about 2 inches...what would you recommend? I was going to try a strap...
@@JeepSolid I was wondering the same thing. I made sure the rubber pieces fit together and then added two washers between the rubber and the skid plate so the skid bolt hanging down was not loose on the skid plate. Hope that is the correct way to mount that. This is a 1995 with 2.5l
Hello JeepSolid. I got a question. I replaced the manual transmission fluid a number of months ago. I was beginning to hear this winning as I drove home after Thanksgiving Dinner. It sounds like a turbo diesel engine. I was concerned it could be some leak from the transmission gear box. It's a manual transmission, but when I dumped it out, there was virtually little to nothing left of the manual transmission fluid. Can you help?
I have a similar crack in my '93 YJ transmission mount. What do we think caused the crack? Was the torque improperly adjusted or worn? Do you have any advice about installing the torque arm?
+GeorgeHamberhill No. could be after market manifold, but not one I put on. I do have a video on my project 92 YJ, where I replace the exhaust manifold.
What year is your YJ there Dale ? And thanks for the vid... I need to replace my tranny cross member as the PO " welded " it to the frame because the bolt holes were rusted out... anyways great vid again man
Huh, must be quite the Mod to be welded to the frame. I'd love to see a picture of how he did that. If you'd like to send a picture on to JeepSolid Facebook page, I can share it there. Anyway, this video is on my 94 YJ 4L. Thanks for watching!
You sure are a risk-taker starting those skid plate bolts with an impact. Cross thread one of those silly nuts that are rolled into the frame is one big screw up for a garage mechanic. What is that silly side torque mount for? My aftermarket one appeared to be ill-designed and the two rubber bumper had at least 1/2" of free play. The bolt that went into the skid plate bottomed with and 1/2" play also. I added a few washers to take some out in skid plate but still leave it sliding but and now I hear a groan somewhere when I clutch to shift.. Guess I better try removing those washers.
Yeah, it's I'll advised to use impact setting bolts, although I am very careful with it. I believe the side bolt on the mount is to help prevent the transmission from twisting.
Hi! Currently working on my '88 YJ and found a loosen hose from the engine to the transmission on the driver's side. Any idea what's that hose for? Close to it there's a multi connector and no clue what's going on.
Your vids have helped me out so much.. I am currently working on my 95 yj transmission..
Wish i could find a video on the transfer case stabilizer stud install on skid plate.. Good videos as usual

+Oatz Haha. That's great. Glad it'll help ya out. Honestly, I've been known to take a few pictures of things so I can see how it goes back together.

what is that third bolt and washers that is part of the rear mount bracket? Is is suppose to be tight to the skid plate or what?

Bump. Same here. I four washers between the poly mount and tranny to get needed Ht to get off the skid plate.

Howdy I need the dimensions of the transmission mount or where to buy one mine is broken but I only have the half of it.
I have a question about the stud and 2 insulators an proper technique to install it on skid plate. 1988 YJ

What that bushing on that mount? Mines broke in half.
I need a new one also where do I find that part???

Hey what's that other loose bolt and bushing for? My YJ has it too and I don't no what it does?
Me too

The transmission is not lining up to the mount? Yeah, it has some wiggle room. A strap or pry bar should move it over.
What does the stabilizer stud actually do? Seems to just flop around?
I believe it helps prevent twisting of the tranny under torque

Ah, bummer man. Makes it sound like you had a leak....? Any signs of leaks? Or fluid where you park it?
Good thing you reused that $8 mount. Factory.
Fun to Watch my only comment would have been generous amounts of anti-seize on the threads of the six bolts that hold the skid plate on
Yeah, good idea!
my 95 yj has same problem (broken mounting bracket) I can't find a new one anywhere, any jeep parts site you can recommend? that might have a new one
It took me a while, but I finally was able to find it myself
Rear Bracket - Mopar (52003925)
That's what it's listed as
Add socket sizes needed for the job. Really saves time
What are the torque specs on the skid plate bolts and those last two transmission mount bolts? Thanks!!
Sorry, I don't have specs on specific torque for those bolts. Most guys just get them good and snug.
JeepSolid Thanks anyways! I did find some information about 55ft/lbs. Not sure if it’s right through. Keep the vids coming!!
Is this the same on a Cj5?
I have a similar crack in my '93 YJ transmission mount. What do we think caused the crack? Was the torque improperly adjusted or worn? Do you have any advice about installing the torque arm?
I assume it was from harsh driving. Bouncing.
It just looks like a poor design.
I have an 87 and the transmission mount on it doesn't have that big overhang to pivot all the force through.
Thanks for the help I appreciate it
Hi there! Does this Jeep have an after market header?
+GeorgeHamberhill No. could be after market manifold, but not one I put on. I do have a video on my project 92 YJ, where I replace the exhaust manifold.

Nice work! 👍🏼
Nice! Good job!
Thanks! Great to hear from my friends back east.

Thanks man. Great videos.
Video was very helpful, thanks
Great. Glad it helped.
So the moral of the story is...DON'T loan your tools to Jason!!! Hahaha!
+Douglas Peterson Haha! Yep
Great video
Thanks!
You should have learned the lesson about using anti seize compound on those six skid plate bolts, you will regret it later
I was going to say something myself but I'm glad you did
Sorry, the weld looked bad. But probably good enough to hold.
Cool vid...thanks.
Hey! Thanks!!
Good video
