Been balking on buying In Waves because Shogun was so great. Maybe I will just bite the bullet and get it because this section is so cool. Thanks for posting. I love videos like this.
in waves is a great album. its way different than shogun, but its a good album nonetheless. ascendancy is way different then shogun. thats just how they roll i guess lol.
I'm not sure if this goes for every song, but from what I've heard and played, Corey has better technique/skill compared to Matt's guitars. In my opinion, I believe Corey's solos and way of harmonizing them sound a lot better than Matt's.
Technically speaking, I would agree. He has precision, speed and feel that is phenomenal. That being said, Matt Heafy CAN shred like a son of a bitch, and has a far more dynamic sound in my opinion. I look at it as intensity vs passion. Without either of them, the sound would fall apart.
I do agree, but thats why i love Trivium. There are two distinct guitarrists playing solos. Like the other commenter replied. Over simplification would be: Technical skill vs. Musicality. Its not that plain obviously. Both of them are extremely good guitarrists!
please note that I mean the 2nd guitar solo after the bass solo, with the 6 string sweeps at the end, not the first one (wich is bad ass and over the top as well). by the way, imo the down from the sky solo is fucking amazing as well^^
ya in my opinion Unto The Locust was very awesome and that album only had 7 songs, in waves and relentless reckless forever were also one of the best but can't beat unto the locust, those songs are just too epic

Amazing melody and just imagen trying to play rhythm like matt while doing screams/vocals, and cory live does screams while doing this amazing guitar work also
Keep working at it! I can play Matt's part (and Corey's minus the solos) and I've only been playing for a 14 months. Learning how to downpick really fast and accurately is one of the hardest parts so try learning the opening to Master of Puppets by Metallica first, it'll really help with the speed. Good luck! :)
@Colton527Down tuning doesn't necessarily mean something will sounds heavier though, Shattering the skies above is one of Trivium's heaviest songs, and that's in Drop D.

did anyone catch the harmony on the bridge riff? normal speed matt played it, but slow corey played it. i think corey fucked it up so matt jumped in on normal speed. not knockin them in anyway. they are great guitarists, i was just curious if anyone noticed that as well.
One of the most underrated songs on one of the most underrated/overhated trivium album

something about that bend that corey does at 2:33 is so satisfying
The riffs in this song are more catchy than the actual lyrics. Trivium has a great way of doing that. The guitar part is usually more interesting than the full song itself.
When you forget the lyrics but the melody is stuck in your head ...
I tend to sing the riffs instead of the lyrics sometimes
Especially the power chords in the beginning and on the chorus. They're so damn catchy.
