At 53, Emmylou wrote Red Dirt Girl. It ain't over, not by a long shot with this gal ~ So very impressive, her longevity in the business of country music!
The more I know about her , the more I truly believe that she’s as great an artist as anyone we have produced. Brilliant, unspoiled, always touched by inevitable sadness. A great interpreter of music, a great songwriter, a great lady!
Fell hard for her music way back & what a ride Gillian Welch & Cowboy Junkies love them & then there’s Emmy Lou ❤from an Australian she can break my heart ( in the nicest way)❤I mentioned the junkies etc because they also have a purity & directness that just is so beautiful! Buddy & Julie Millers written in chalk I adore !!
Songbird by the wonderful late Jess Winchester. Beautiful voice and great songwriter. Much like John Prine. Often simple songs, simple words that could make you cry and in Jessie’s case, for me, a beautiful emotional voice.
As the facts and figures continue to be compiled on the life of EMMYLOU HARRIS it quite obvious at this point and place in time that we have witnessed one of greatest stories in music history , her life’s work is beyond stellar like the silver trail of a passing comet, here for us to see and enjoy. Gram parsons believed in what he called cosmic music by his own definition , and EMMYLOU has certainly surpassed that vision and idea that gram had. She has done it with all the passion and witt that only few dreamed of and been able to accomplish ,You have done one STELLAR job with it all, here’s to you in your 75th year, STEPHEN L, GARDNER
Something pleasant for me l'm Charlie 47, so same age as Emmylou! So good artist, she is not very known in France, my country... I discovered her in youtube... What nice pleasure!!
This is both one of the most beautiful and yet the most depressing song ever written. And if you've never seen the video of FIRST AID KIT singing it on youtube, you need to, they sing it just as great as Emmy Lou does. I saw Emmy Lou sing this live and it will give you the chills, it's so beautiful, but will also drain your heart with pain. Everything a good song should.
What numbskull gave this a thumbs down? We are talking about a legend here. If you don't like what this lady has accomplished with her God given voice and talent, you don't understand anything about real music and songwriting.
In the seventies Emmy performed with Bob Dillon, Arlo Guthrie and several other greats On the Rolling Thunder Revue at the Springfield Civic Center in Springfield MA. Does any one remember which song she sang?
She has a beautiful voice although she has lost some of it with age. She always loved Gram but rarely admits it and most of her music, even her covers, are really about him.
@EmmylouLouHarris I played you singing "Bang the drum" at my Dad's funeral. I still cry every time I hear it. I've met you a couple times and you have been a huge influence in my life and as song writer. God bless you thank you for always sharing your heart with all of us. And helping us find ours 💞

Simply The Best... Thanks for putting this out.
The freedom to truly express oneself is critical. Bravo, dear lady.
The sense of depression in the song...like a huge boulder pressing you down into the ground (the red dirt?)
Precious!!!
Seeing her watching First Aid Kit sing an otherworldly red dirt girl, i hope she realized in that moment that she is and will always be immortal...
That video made tears well in my eyes! Such love, such sincerety between the girls and EmmyLou! FAK are very good themselves, too, btw.

Beautiful and poignant, not depressing. One of her best.
I love you Emmylou Harris…….
She's an all-time best.

I think EmmyLou deserves a million likes!
Because she’s smoking cigarettes without proper warning before video?

Let her read the yellow pages out loud. Another great record!

I think she wants everyone to love and appreciate him as much as she does.
Wrecking Ball raised the stakes. Yes, yes it did.. great production with Daniel Lanois
Love Emmy. Didn’t know she smoked. Yuk

Hasn't hurt her looks any,
She smokes in this video? 🤔
