I played the sims 2 after being a devoted sims 3 and sims 4 player since around 2016, when i was first able to purchase a sims game for myself, and the sims 2 almost instantly reshaped my perspective of the series. I've always thought of the sims 2 as the blueprint and heavily nostalgic, but i was amazed by the fact that the game effortlessly hooked me into gameplay even though I've been getting bored of life simulator games for a year now. Despite its age, i consider the sims 2 to be a great game. The aged look is charming too, i honestly prefer it much more to the overly polished sims 4 ui and gameplay! In fact, now that i've spent even just a day playing the game, it's honestly the first and almost only thing that comes to mind when i think of "the sims." I wish i was able to play this when it was even more active as i love modding communities as well and the fact so many sites are now unavailable for custom content is saddening, but i also feel like this game is totally enjoyable without cc, something i wouldn't be able to say about the sims 4, lol, even with a lot of the expansions.
The sims 2 modding community is still incredibly active! Just have to know where to look :) but even with all the dead sites you can always find the downloads somewhere which is nice bc people will reupload
I enjoyed this video essay! The improvements from Sims 1 to Sims 2 is MASSIVE and still unmatched until this day. Genuinely this game has stood the test of time and 20 years later there is still an active community around this version of the Sims.
The way its still the best of the franchise. TS4 is ofc a scrapped mobile game. And TS3 did use TS2 as a "base" and compensated what they didnt bring over by providing open world. But still TS2 is the blueprint.
I love how EA could easily rerelease the complete edition of The Sims 2 at full price and profit on the nostalgic players but won't do that because they don't give a fuck and can gain more by selling shitty dlcs for a broken game.
they definitely wouldn't profit off nostalgic players, especially if they sold it at full price. everyone who wants to play it now either bought it back in the day, got it for free when they gave it out in 2018, or just downloads the complete collection off an EA-unaffiliated website.
@@lucasknutr I know. But wouldn’t it be very scummy if they rereleased it with various extra contents for 60$ and made it playable on consoles? And if you had the original version the only way to get the bonus content was to buy it again?
You would be right lol ts2 is definitely my fave but I still love 3 and 4 too. Ts2 just holds a special place in the hearts of many, and for good reason.
It's superior to any other sims game, really. In fact, imho, it's easily the best life-sim of all time. You can feel all the love and care for details on it.

I’ve been playing sims2 since 2008 and I’m STILL playing it to this day! I even got the game open right now. I’m sad that I missed the anniversary date since I had planned to build a lot and upload it with minimal cc for my followers 😭😭
I started off playing the Sims 4 a few years ago. I remember seeing gameplay of the other games and ending up getting the Sims 2 for free. It was an adjustment with some of the differences such as build mode controls but I loved the game and always wondered why 4 never was this good. I would later on play the Sims 3 which I also love especially for how customizable everything is, but gameplay wise, it wasn’t as good as the Sims 2. There was just so much big things and smaller details packed into this game that show the amount of care it was given.
Até hoje é o The sims com a melhor simulação da série, fora a quantidade de detalhes absurda que tem no jogo. Infelizmente a maxis não consegue mais repetir o feito.
It is waaaaaay too soon for a Sims 5 isn't it? The Sims 4 is only 10 years old, so hopefully we can get another 10+ years before getting another game. ha Maybe after 30+ years there will be a 5th game.
Sims makin magic was the best game for me that I remember playing for hours on end on my parents PC. Eventually I bought Sims 2 on the GameCube, but I would go back for makin magic. Maybe if I would of had a good computer at the time I would of seen how it was on PC.
Apparently there was a glitch in the Sims 2 base game that it was impossible to build houses as the build mode tool was broken however that glitch was fixed in the Sims 2 university expansion pack which was the first expansion pack for the game.
@@DeckardGames Build mode just didn’t work. Some versions of the base game may’ve patched it but my version of it never worked and that was back in 2005. LGR also fell into the same issue too in one of his videos.
The only thing stopping me from going back to Sims 2 is the lack of story progression and holidays. It's very annoying. If I play too much with a family they'll end up older than their relatives who were born first 😅 And I loved getting the family together for Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. Are there any mods for this?
Yes. There are mods for both and a whole pile more. To search on Google just start with "Sims 2" and end with "mod" . So "Sims 2 Holiday Mod" or "Sims 2 Story Progression mod". I would recommend, but I don't think RUclips likes that.
I still play this game (the only one in the franchise). I love the more cartoonish aesthetic, the game is funny. I saw some videos of a new game like The Sims that is about to be released, with remarkable realism, but it didn't interest me.
This was a fun retrospective; we've both been longtime fans of the Sims series, especially Lady Laci who considers it probably her favorite franchise of all time. This was a great look back--thank you for the nostalgic trip!

Yeah. Little sad to see that.
This one and the 10th anniversary of The Sims 4 (which was on September 2nd). Yeah EA/Maxis have unfortunately ignored these important milestones!
I'm honestly kind of glad. They would have very easily exploited it for some kind of cash grab
