I'm honeestly surprised they don't, a lot of people would like them for aftermarket conversions, but so far the only way to do it is to source the parts from a wrecked tesla
Not many people know this, but the 2nd gen Toyota Rav4 EVs, and Mercedes B-Class ED are Tesla powered! Just not very common... They both use full sized Tesla 470a drive units (same as model S), with a few modifications (parking pall, and reverse cut gears). They also use the same 40a onboard charger, dc-dc converter, and have battery packs built by Tesla. And the best part is you can buy them used for sub $20k! I work with them on an almost daily basis, since the company I work for sells DC fast charging kits for them (called JdeMO), as well as does service on them.
@@pogo1140 Tesla Manufactures their drive units in house, so it is the same drive unit (with a few changes specifically for those cars, mainly reverse cut gears since the motor spins in the opposite direction, as well as the addition of a parking pall). These cars were both built through a partnership with Tesla. Toyota paid Tesla $60m to build 2,600 Rav4 EVs from 2012-2014. Not sure how much Mercedes paid Tesla, but there are a lot more of the Mercedes b250e's on the road than Rav4 EVs.

Hey Jehu, have you ever heard of an American car company call Tesla? No, well they make 100% electric cars and soon 100% Semis, pickups, and maybe electric bikes. They also make solar panels and solar roof tiles, plus battery storage for homes, businesses and utilities. Jogged your memory now?
Walk into your local Ford store and you can order up a Focus electric if they don't have one in stock. So, as pointed out by others, gm is not the only North American electric car manufacturer.
What’s funny is the segment with camero ev motor and music background, we usually would be drooling over a v8 supercharged. Don’t know what to do instead of drooling though I love the ev market.
Awesome.. see the retrofits happen.. Now they just need someone to make kits to have underfloor batteries and retrofits are going to become a proper thing.
Some factory built EVs are essentially just gas cars "retrofitted" to get the required EV credits. Most of them have underfloor batteries, even though they were not originally designed with that in mind (although some are slightly modified). The Toyota Rav4 EV is a perfect example. It's identical to a 2008-2012 rav4 in every way, even down to still having the exhaust hangers. But instead of the gas power train, they have an electric power train and battery pack built by Tesla. The battery pack is even contoured to the floor so it fits in the transmission tunnel and all.
@@Alex_Bessinger any ideas where I might find something to fit the size of a Ford Festiva? Want to make a double level floor battery and kick over a 1000km/mile trip.. Not the height of the battery.. just a cell from the battery.. Thanks
Gary Stinten , I think you’d be pretty hard pressed to fit that many batteries in a festiva, even if you filled every available space in it, just not a big enough car to fit very much. Realistically you could MAYBE fit a battery big enough to do 150mi or so (roughly 250km). If you did that and put DC fast charging on it it would become a very usable EV. I personally have driven an EV with less range than that, equipped with DC fast charging, over 2000km in less than 45hrs. The cells in the earlier Tesla batteries (including the Rav4 EV) are just regular 18650s, so they are 65mm tall. The rav4s, 1st gen roadsters, and Mercedes b-class use 2600mah cells, and the Model S and X use 3400mah cells. The newer packs in the Model 3 are 2170s, so they are 70mm tall, but those are proprietary, so you won’t be able to find them anywhere.
