Your audio and video are perfect, although I never did have a problem before as you state. RUclipsrs, Matt and Amy on S/V Florence, a 37 foot Oyster, have been sailing around the world for 5 years now with no issues per se and one can tell that this couple are experienced, seasoned sailors.

Thanks for that. Didn’t know Oyster all that well, except that they are nice and are expensive. There is a some what similar American boat. The Cal 2-46. It was waaaay ahead of its time. I owned and extensively cruised mine. They are very well built and capable. MANY have circumnavigated. they had everything a cruising couple/family could want. And despite there appearance, they are not a motor sailor. I made 200 mile day passages! And when you needed power. The 85 hp Perkins coupled with a nearly 3:1 reduction swinging a 26 inch prop, you had the motoring ability of a trawler. AND 270 gal of diesel and 220 water. All that tankage low and below the salon. No equipment or tankage in ANY locker! that with a walk IN engine room with a world bench, a vice and drill press. The salon with a galley with 17 feet of counter space! And everyone was happy. Fifty years later, they are still sailing the world. And for boats over 40+ feet I love center cockpits. The two main hanging lockers were so big that I could go inside and shut the door behind me. Oh well, just me ranting about my most favorite boat of the 5 cruisers that I lived aboard and cruised.

Like your talk about Deck Salon (Saloon) designs. I would propose that once you experience the airiness, light and headroom of a deck salon, most of us would be reluctant to go back to a traditional design. If the designer does it right, the exterior does not have to be a compromise. We think our Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 54DS is a great example of that. She has show-stopping lines from the dock and people's minds are blown when they step down below. We regularly have strangers walk up and ask for a tour. And if you put the deck salon design concept to work in a boat with the build quality of an Oyster, you've got close to the perfect boat, with the only compromise (all boats have compromises) being the price.

Hello Lady K , would your do a review on the Sirius 40DS?

  • @dutchglobetrotter4513

The answer to your question an Oyster all the way.
    I part-time crew on an Oyster 56.
The build quality is superb and everything is well laid out. Access hatches and panels where you need them.
The boat can handel rougher seas than the crew, at one time we got caught in a squall with 55+knots wind, yes we ploughed the nose through the waves a couple of times but this 35 ton sailing beauty kept going 9-10 knots in the right direction.
All in relative comfort, considering the 4m waves and 20ºheel.

Small correction - their first production yacht was a 26 foot sloop. I raced and cruised one for 22 years, covering 40k miles. She was bullet proof, sailed like a witch, and kept going to windward even in 50 knots of breeze. We loved her.

Oyster money? I've got some of that but I've ordered a cat. however.... until my cat is built - a $50k Oyster, even if I have to pick it up in Europe and sail it back? Sounds like a great idea to me! Thank you. An Atlantic crossing? Isn't that just more sailing and isn't that what we all want? And you, who has a lot more experience sailing than I do wanting to go along? Just saved me hiring a captain. All I need to do now is find me an Oyster across the pond.....

Now that we got that out of the way, might I suggest a deep-dive into Shannon? They're much more readily available at a reasonable price, and fit better with the mantra you adopted from the Pardis: go small, go simple, go now.

I`'ve been following you for years, and enjoy each and every episode. I also appreciate all the work and research that you do each week. I live in Euclid Ohio a stone's throw from Lake Erie. I was given a Catalina 22 back in October of 2020 and hope to get out on the Lake next spring.
I go up to Maine the last week of June every year for 2 weeks for the Windjammers festival. I saw a older Rhodes 38 last year and was wondering what you think of Rhodes. The one I saw was all wood.

I have been using the line “the world is your oyster” for over 20 years.
An older Oyster is still pure luxury. I’m having a really hard time figuring out what my next boat could possibly be. 35 to 46 feet for sure. Maybe a Cat, and maybe not. I guess what the time comes and I have a plan for the next 5-10 years of cruising, that’s when I figure out what I’m looking for.

Oyster, Rustler & other Western European boats get somewhat 'short shrift' here in North America. You would get the sense that the pond (Atlantic Ocean) is almost insurmountable to achieve sales goals? There are a bevy of gorgeous, functional, robustly built semi luxury boats (yachts?) in the 40' to 55' range. I'm actually afraid to start ticking off a list, as I'll forget someone, and they'll badger you & I for NOT listing them! But, if a Med pick up works for a potential buyer- the options triple! (Can't afford to give money, but- 'like', comment & subscribe I CAN do. I have & will...

I loved you cat vs mono… and i have spent sleepless hours on that subject.
But the answer for me is the Oyster 49 Deck Saloon. This boat is perfect for me. The lovely raised saloon and then two really big cabins… a great galley and a third cabin. My only issue is the cost and availability.
And your pronunciation is how we say it in English-English.
And they are pretty rare here too…

Never have noticed any audio issues, and I use a tablet with headphones. As for the video, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. 4K may not be with your trouble since I'm sure the majority of viewers probably use an IPad, or tablet. Anyone watching RUclips on a 65 in. tv, should get a smaller device. Sometimes it doesn't pay to be like the Joneses and stick to what works.
As for crossing an ocean between a 54 Beneteau and an Oyster, I'll take the later since I haven't been in one, and dislike Beneteau's rudder installation. And when you go back to the Bahamas in Lady K, call me. Fair winds

Very well done. Listened twice. The Oyster 45 is on my shortlist. Very, very short list. If I can swing one, I will let you know. Oyster offers Rallies, and a tremendous support network. You can telephone them from anywhere in the world for a part, and you will get it! In my book: Oyster, Contest CS and Najad (Hallberg too, but it is not a CS boat) are simply in a league of their own.
