    Watching this over 7 years later and I'm actually still really impressed with the camera and video quality from the glass shown here. That wide angle is really impressive. I'd say it still could have real applications today. I never thought the glass nailed the look but would be interested to see new iterations of this. I remember being so hyped at the time this came out and I believe I watched this video years ago. For some reason Google keeps recommending old MKBHD videos to me.

    Fun fact, they still make Glass. Its aimed at enterprise users where having both hands free is important for, say, a doctor or an engineer, but you can still obtain them as a normal "consumer". Also, "ok Glass" became "ok Google", which is now the Google Assistant we all probably know about on our phones, watches, cars, and vase things.

      The people rejected cyborg people 10 years ago and this was before Snowden I think.. This idea of cameras all over used to record others disturbed most people. The people rose against it and won. This stuff serves little purpose when it has little use. Now China is already using a mass surveillance system constantly if tracking people's faces in public. I believe once the American people understand that and when the government tries to do it that could be the start of the collapse. Right now what is tracked by the government is done in a hidden way so as to not upset the people. Snowden made that clear... But people will forget and be born into it not knowing.

    Just had an idea. Imagine if an app for the Google Glass could create live subtitles for the individual you are speaking with. This could (and please, i stress COULD) help people who are deff to read what others are saying about them, help people with adhd or autistim focus, and could help thousands of people who wish to document a live conversation as a journalist, film-maker, etc. If someone could accomplish an app like this for the Google Glass then I will ABSOLUTELY purchase this device.

    I still like the idea of this product. I feel like they could make it lighter by taking out the camera (because it creeps some people out) and remove the speaker and mic (just use your earbud in conjunction with the glasses). Even just as a screen, it would be very useful. Also, extend the battery life by adding an additional battery to the left ear side so that the glasses don't sit unevenly.

    1. become symmetrical
    2. Be more discreet and look like normal shades
    3. be compatible with lenses for visually impaled.
    4 computing hardware and batty needs to become smaller so you can fit it in a motorbike helmet for example.

    All this technology is making me feel so fucking old. I'm like a 20th century relic who belongs in an Antique store or something. When I was a kid if you had a color TV it meant you were rich- now kids watch TV on their cell phones in HD... in my day HD was two pieces of tin foil on the end of your rabbit ears. The first computer I saw was the size of a damn Buick- today kids have cheap pocket calculators that can do more than that computer did. When I was a kid the only way to "text" your buddy would be to get out a fucking typewriter, type some shit, put it in an envelope and mail it out, and wait a week for your response. The only way to call your buddy from outside the house was to jump into a phone booth where some bum just pissed on the floor... only to have the operator keep yelling at you to put more money into the phone. If you wanted to watch a movie, you went to the theater, or you prayed to hell that it would eventually come on one of the 4 channels you had. Now we have a pair of fucking sunglasses that has a hundred times more processing power than the first home computer system I purchased as an adult. It's just overwhelming to see the changes in my lifetime, and God knows what I will see before its all over. From LP's and 8 tracks to digital downloads. Holy shit. I still have my record collection- it takes a huge shelving unit to store all my music, and today I could store all of the songs on every one of my hundreds of records and THOUSANDS more on a chip the size of my fucking pinky finger. If you had told me that even 20 years ago in the 90's I would have laughed at you. At the time we thought the 90's was futuristic as all hell- we had no idea. Could you imagine what Thomas Edison would say about all of this?? lol

      ChronicSynchronizer It is overwhelming, and hopefully I have a ways to go yet so who knows what I'll see before its over. I can't even begin to imagine what my kids and their kids will see. But if you think it's been insane to see the advances during my lifetime... it makes me wonder what it must have been like in my grandmothers lifetime...now SHE saw it all!! My grandma was born in 1897 and passed away in 1995. She was raised in a house with no electricity, no indoor bathroom, and no running water. She went from horse and buggy to men walking on the moon!! At christmas time when kids in the family would be getting all the latest gadgets, video games and so forth I remember her always shaking her head and was unable to relate to why they would even want such things! Everytime I see something new like this google glass, I wonder what grandma would think. I have her childhood diary and have read it several times- do you know what the biggest excitement was in her youth? Getting a coca-cola from a place called Griffins drug store! That was a HUGE deal to her!

      +nicktheg00 but hololen are window's...and windows is known to have to many bugs when releasd.. i can't even use cortana/search on my windows 10 (i7 ssd, new laptop) and window's 10 won't install on my 1yr old desktop..
      so with gooogle since it's been 3 year's they are literaly trying to stomp all bug's, when hololen's comes out itll be shit for the first 2yr. google. glass is smaller, and i think cheaper. and probably a tad better

      I believe Google killed the experimental project.
      You can only use Cortana in certain regions. This can be due to Cortana's personality or patent licensing.
      You have not even tried HoloLens and the assumption that it will be buggy is just a no-go.
      Why wouldn't Windows 10 install? I don't think that is really understandable.

    Excellent overview of Glass. I doubt most people would pay more than $300 for what pretty much amounts to a fancy cell phone accessory. I also wonder what the battery life would be since it is interfacing with your phone via Bluetooth. I doubt it will catch on very much in the consumer market. However, in professional environments (medical, law enforcement, Etc.), there is HUGE potential.

      The only useful application i can see (that differs from what smartphones already enable) is the video. Its really cool to be able to make first person video without having to strap a camera to the top of your head. My friend make fps videos by mounting his phone on a clip and holding it with his mouth, so this would definitely be a step up lol

    • @DeathGhost809
      @DeathGhost809 8 лет назад

      ImCommodities videos, and quick photos, smartphones need to be picked up from your pocket, open the lock and wait for the camera to load, its not good if you want to catch a fast photo, like a view you saw while you are in the bus

    • @ImCommodities
      @ImCommodities 8 лет назад

      +medo sam Most smart phones don't need to be unlocked to get to the camera and the camera load times on most flagships is basically none existent so that problem is quickly becoming a thing of the past. I understand what you mean though, I just personally don't have that problem often.
