Appreciate the video. I have some new tips post all three DLC additions.
1- In either campaign or career modes, stay on the Pirates' good side. Buy access to the black market ASAP and prioritize C-bills over salvage. By doing so, you can buy significantly better weapons, equipment, and even complete mechs than you would just by salvaging, and probably much sooner as well.
2- Skills like bulwark, coolant flush, and tactics-6/tactics-9 (called shot bonus and mastery, respectively) are especially important to have. The new bulwark simply adds another 20% protection to either guarded or cover states. The big takeaway is that simply by being in cover a bulwark mech can by moving and shooting and simultaneously have 40% protection without guarding. Coolant flush is self-explanatory, its extremely useful to be able to dump 50 heat at a moment's notice. And called shot bonus/mastery are the best of all. Being able to deliberately focus fire on for instance an enemy's leg lets you then follow up with the rest of the lance and guarantee a kill.
3- Legging is winning. Continuing from the previous, the many reasons to deliberately precision-strike the enemy's leg: A- the knockdown allows the rest of your lance to follow up with called shots. B- the knockdown causes an injury to the enemy pilot. C- The knockdown reduces the enemy mech's initiative for one turn. D- when the enemy stands back up, he'll have a significant accuracy penalty for one turn. E- The enemy mech will have a severe mobility penalty with a destroyed leg. F- needless to say, whatever was in the leg (jump jets, heat sinks, ammo, etc) will also be destroyed in the process. G- overkill damage to that leg will transfer to the nearest side torso. If you have enough firepower, you can destroy that as well in the same attack, and get the arm as a free bonus. H- in the event the previous happens, an enemy mech with all three side components missing will then have any hit to them transfer to the center torso. Side attacks will then be guaranteed to hit CT. I- Destroying both legs of a mech gives more salvage than destroying its CT, but is also much easier than destroying the head.
4- Jump jets and hit defense gyros are a winning combo for any mech class or role. These massively reduce the amount of hits you take, and therefore prolong your mechs' lifespans. Not only this, but jumping is great for placing your mechs in positions that are safer for them and much more dangerous to the enemy. Keep those mechs airborne, keep them in good positions, keep them alive. The added heat and weight are well worth it.
5- The best overall mech hands-down is now the Marauder. Its special module not only gives 10% damage resistance to the whole lance at all times, it also makes the Marauder's called shots much more accurate. Any other mech with called shot mastery would have 18% odds of hitting the enemy's head with a frontal called shot. A Marauder in the same situation has 35% chance to hit the head. And of course odds of hitting any other component are likewise much better than normal. A good pilot should be expected to destroy any component of your choice on command. The MAD-3R and 3D variants are in common circulation. There's also a 2R version with LosTech that occasionally shows up in the black market. Buy whenever possible, cost be damned. The default loadouts can be massively improved with customization. (Incidentally, the rival competitor for best mech is now the SLDF Phoenix Hawk PXH-1B. I'll explain that one later if you're interested).

Here are some advanced tips I got from experiments and combat with 800+ hours of play.
    >> 100-ton Annihilators with 4 AC-10++ are the best head-shotters aside from the 75-ton Marauder. I get most of my headshot kills from my Annihilators. Be sure to remove the 4 MLasers and replace them with Heat Sinks, Ammo, or Armor. Put Comms (Resolve) or Rangefinders++ on them.
    >> Replace the AC20s on King Crabs with Gauss Rifles if you want to give them long-range firepower. Or you can put 4 Flamers on a King Crab and use it to Shutdown an overheated heavy or assault mech. I use this version as my bodyguard mech for a Cataphract CTF-0X ECM mech.
    >> Put 4 Machine Guns and 2 SRM6 on a Hatchetman with extra Arm Mods, then add some more armor to it. Use it to kill light mechs in 1 turn or to kill damaged heavy mechs with lots of critical hits.
    >> Put 5 or more SLasers on a Banshee that has multiple Arm Mods on them, and 1 or 2 PPCs. After the mech gets high heat, use melee attack to get rid of the heat while the SLasers fire automatically.
    >> The best Leg Mods to use are those that remove DFA leg damage.
    >> If you take the Flashpoint Missions early, you can get LosTech weapons earlier in the game. But be sure your pilots have 6 or more Gunnery already.
    >> Add more ammo bins to mechs with Ballistic or Missile weapons because those become useless weight after the ammo is depleted in a long match.
    >> Use 1 or 2 Raven or Cataphract ECM mechs on Escort missions to protect the vehicles from being targeted. ECM forces enemy mechs to waste their turn using sensor lock or to charge close and get inside the ECM shield thus making them vulnerable to your brawlers and deadly bodyguard mechs.
    >> Always increase a mech warrior's Gunnery to become as high as possible before other stats as long as the Guts skill is already 4 or 5. A pilot that can't hit its target has wasted that mech's turn unless it is a specialized spotter scout.
    >> Avoid the COIL-L or COIL-M weapons. But if you want to use them, mount them on a Vindicator or Cicada or any medium or light mech without Jump Jets. Put as many Heat Sinks on it as you can.
    >> Use Called Shot on a side torso to destroy both the arm and torso on that side, hitting two birds with one shot. This is very useful at removing dangerous weapons located on the same side of the mech.

at the beginning of ALL engagements, even story, before you move, take a moment to zoom out and study the battle field. consider the terrain and the approach to your objectives. If you can, always take a more "round"about" way to your target. it has been my experience that the game tends to set up enemies arrayed toward a frontal assault.
in short, equip those jump jets, take you lance on a beautiful mountain climbing expedition,
avoid nasty ambushes, and gang rush that lonesome and vulnerable LRM BOAT!!!

Some of your tips and tricks change when you get to the late campaign and afterwards.
Once you start fielding Assaults and some of the larger Heavies (and start facing them) evasion pips generally don't matter. Assaults don't generally move far enough to generate enough pips for it to matter (many times you can't generate any without sprinting or jumping.) Also, your mechwarriors will generally have a high enough gunnery skill to overcome any pips your enemy will generate. Range and cover matter far more in the late game.
Also, in my experience, it's generally best to put ammo in the legs. Legs generally have the most armor of any location (outside of maybe the CT) and are not hit nearly as frequently. Also, any location that gets an ammo explosion will most certainly get destroyed. Your torso and arm locations generally will have more valuable components than your legs will. Also, the destruction of an arm or side torso will mean that your center will be more vulnerable (be hit more often, for instance.) A destroyed CT means death for your mech, but a mech can still fight with only one leg.

One other tip that is great to know is that you can save your pilots by punching the eject button (red button in the bottom left near the name). It may also be handy for a new player to know that their character is immortal and can survive a mech destruction (they are just in med bay for a long time)

LRM + PPC will usually result in a knockdown. Add in a critical shot to the legs for maximum impact to eliminate those difficult enemies.

There is an easier way to tell what location a component is in. Click on the 'Mech and hover your mouse over each section of the "paper doll" at the top of the screen. A pop-up tooltip will show you what is in that location.
Generally speaking, the best location to target a shot is the torso location adjacent to the arm you want to take out (usually this is the right torso), especially with something like a Victor or Hunchback.

Handy info @ 10:47 I didn't know the letters applied universally to all mechs. Where the ammo bins draw ammo from 1st, 2nd, 3rd ect... and not exploding after 50% empty is also really great to know.

In general, they tend to refer to the House origin of the variant: S for Steiner, D for Davion, K for Kurita, M for Marik, etc. Since each noble House has a certain doctrine, that tends to be reflected in their 'Mech designs and loadouts.

Focused fire... there’s always a fine line when dealing with a fresh enemy lance. The light mechs usually have so much evasion that you can’t get a decent shot, the Atlas usually has minimal evasion but huge armor.
I try to let my scout hit them with sensor lock and light them up. Focus fire on the big boys with max damage output. It’s always a crapshoot on higher difficulty.

Actually there aren't any hard or fast rules for the letter at the end of the Model Designation as they can mean everything from the House that uses it, the Corporation that designed it, or the Loadout is currently has. For instance K can stand for Kurita, or it can stand for Kali-yama, while S can stand for Steiner or SRM.

Reduce your pilot's chance of receiving head hits by turning your facing so that incoming fire hits your left or right side instead of your front. Also do this to spread damage and/or protect valuable weapon systems. This practice also allows you to reduce armor in the Center Torso and save tonnage.

  • @kazekamiha

If I have an AC 20 and a called shot has a rough 20% chance to hit the head, I aim for the head. It's not always perfect, but you can take the head out with one hit.

Selecting the mech to attack should not be a problem. Two damaged mechs hurt more than one undamaged mech. So go for the weakest mech. Which one is the weakest? Normally the lighter mech, but there are exceptions. For example, if you have a King Crab and an Atlas attacking you, go for the King Crab. It has same size but weaker armor.
Now there is also the problem of position. The previous advice was mostly a principle, but position matters. pick the easier one, the most vulnerable and plan your approach from a direction where there is the least firepower for the enemy.
If there are narrow passages, you most likely have an ambush there waiting for you. Lure them to your side. If luring not possible, and you need to enter the ambush and be exposed, make the mechs go together forming in a line and go as fast as the fastest speed of the slower mech. Keep them together..
Having a light mech as spotter and LRM mech hiding behind terrain is a great way to use your LRMs. LRMs soften targets, but heavies are hard to soften. For example, an Atlas has 47 armor points in the center torso, plus the internal structure. So if you fire your LRM5, hoping to hurt it, you will destroy 5 points at most. Softening targets is good anyway.
If you are not familiar with mechs specs, the official site bg dot battletech dot com slash downloads slash, has record sheets for wave one and two. These PDFs have stats of mechs. How do you convert sheet stats to the game? 12 movement points are about 120kph. And weapons have ranges in hexes, and one hex is 30 meters. You will see armor points for mechs. 16 armor points make one ton of armor. Weapons have heat and also you can see how many heat sinks a mech has. So you may know how hard or easy is to overheat.

  • @josepablolunasanchez1283
    @josepablolunasanchez1283 2 года назад

Use terrain to your advantage. If you can find a place that covers half of your mech (your legs) while the enemy is exposed, go for it. Forests make firing harder. So forests between you and your enemy will make firing difficult. However, if you are in a forest and the enemy is not, you have an advantage. Water slows the mech but dissipates heat too.
If you can see the enemy, the enemy can see you too.
But if you hide your LRM missile boat behind a hill, and use a fast light mech as spotter, you can launch an LRM attack from behind a hill, and the enemy will not be able to fire back at the missile boat. Speed makes targets harder to hit, so make your light mech to move as much as you can.

When he said "SRM carriers are cancer" I screamed and knew this person had played a lot of this game. I have played a lot, but was hoping to learn some things(I did) and I can definitely say that SRM/LRM carriers both are colossally annoying. They also seem to be skewed in their "AI force strength" or whatever and can very greatly unbalance what should be an otherwise easy mission.

    • @DarthPoyner
      @DarthPoyner 6 лет назад +1

The yellow bar under the heat. The pip denotes the Unsteady level. You normally have to reach unsteady with a hit and then a separate hit to reach max and knockdown. Even if you reach knockdown in a single attack, you still need another hit to knock them down. There is a mod to adjust this to allow a massive stability attack to knockdown in a single hit, but that is modding.
This is why I always have a LRM boat sitting back out of range and have an SRM "shotgun" mech so that I can knockdown as many mechs as possible. Then I get free called shots with my Gause/PPC/Laser boats.

As someone of northern European descent I find it disgusting that you cannot play as a blonde white person in this game. All characters have asian eyes, African noses, and the closest to a white blonde you can get is a light brown lightish skinned asian man with a very wide nose. You also cannot hire white mechwarriors (except the kickstarter backers who had models made after them - they are the ONLY whites) - I thought surely this is a bug, and on asking if my version is bugged or if 3 of 7 continents had been wiped out in Battletech lore (I wasn't sure) I was told and I quote "Fuck off racist." Apparently wanting my character to look like me is racism. Worse still most of the reddit community agreed. Looks like another great franchise has fallen to political zealots who will attack anyone who doesn't think racism against Germanic people is A-OK. Their idea of 'diversity and inclusion' is all brown hair, brown eyes, and brown skin. Something tells me they haven't a clue what the word diversity actually means.
