I saw him live in 1959 in house, when I attended his singing of Otello, he was sensational and was far greater then in the studio recordings, his big voice needed to be heard live in house, for the real effect, and the dramatic power he had. RIP.
Yes he was. What I would give to be able to see him in Pagliacci, Otello, Fanciulla, Chenier, Forza, Aida, Samson, Norma, Carmen, Gioconda, Cavalleria, Ernani, or Turandot? Or just singing the telephone directory.
