  • I over shined these new boots. Hey, it happens. The shine was carried too far up the toe and cracked some on my first wear. I tested out both Pure polish conditioner/cleaner and Magnanni leather cleaner to remove the cracked wax. There was a clear winner here...I also mention my experience with Saphir renomat as well.
    I hope this will be useful to some of you if you run into a similar issue.
    Keep on shining my friends!
    Shout out to my man Andy over at Pure Polish

    Another shout out to Vahtia who made these beautiful austerity boots. I've never seen another pair in this design. Check out my unboxing of these as well:

    You ever just bust out the blow dryer and then buff? Works wonders! Gets rid of excess as well. Give credit to Preston Soto of the Elegant Oxford

      Yes I use it sometimes and will likely make a video showing that method as well. This was a good chance to try out a few of these products. I think the blow dryer works even faster.

    Big fan of PurePolish and your videos‼️ I recommend to just condition new boots and shoes, wear them, and then high/mirror shine them... I don't wear gloves with PP products, but do with Saphir. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

      Yes it's definitely a risk to do a high shine before wearing them for the first time. In this case I did it to get a photo shoot with the shoes. Not practical for sure.

      I agree, from my recent experience this is probably the right way to go. When you jump down the rabbit hole of ‘haute shoeology’ you reach a stage where you want your shoes perfect right out the box. It’s best to have a little patience, wear your shoes and see where those creases form before you start mirror polishing them.

    I recommend that you do something about the light on your small work area. Maybe a clamp lamp? It's impossible to see on the video where the cracked wax was or what effect the pure Polish product you used had on the wax or leather.

      I see what you mean. It is actually the camera setting more so than the actual lighting. Working on the next video now and will be considerably brighter.

      @@mbshoedoc, sometimes the camera darkens the video when you really doesn't want it to do that. I hate when that happens. Peace.

      It really works incredibly well at removing wax. Just finishing up a custom patina and the cleaner worked amazing on it too. Will have to use it on a shell cordovan restoration too 👌

    i'm big fan of you. High shine wax pure polish vs mirror gloss, which is better?

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  3 года назад +1

      They both work fairly equally. I think the mirrorgloss has a slight edge for beginners. It is perhaps a bit easier to use. People with more shine experience can do amazing with the pure polish and many start to prefer it.

    MB.. I believe that if a man is wearing a not so fancy or priced suit.. a good pair of shoes could fix that... what do you think.. greetings from Ecuador..

      there are plenty of quality suits available on the market that arent so expensive

      I don't actually wear suits myself but yes I think the shoes can elevate an outfit more than the suit itself.

    Hi there from the UK. I’ve recently subscribed to your channel, really liking your content and style.
    Have you tried using a hairdryer to do the same thing? You can soften the surplus wax north of the cracks and remove/blend/redistribute it as you wish without using any products, whilst leaving the finish of the leather intact. I had the same problem with a new pair of J.FitzPatrick Seaview II boots recently and this method worked a treat. Best, Chris.

      Definitely could use heat and it works well. I prefer that method for removing wax on the entire toe to start over but I thought I could control the are better with the pure polish. I thought heat may remove more than what I intended. I'll plan on making a video using heat as well 👍.

    Your videos are too dark. You need to add light to make this much more interesting.

    How do you remove water spots if you dont mind me asking?

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  3 года назад

      Good question and honestly it depends. Sometimes conditioning lotion works, sometimes saddle soap and I have had pairs where even acetone didn't remove it and I had to cover it with a re-dye.
