That’s ridiculous they just declared open season on bears…I live in PA and have had many encounters with bears and never once ever felt threatened or in danger…all you need is some firecrackers not guns…terrible world this is becoming

That being said you were always allowed to defend yourself from an animal attack, any animal attack with a gun. This law was redundant. However the wording that bothered me was unwanted encounter. That is wide open for interpretation. And could mean anytime you see a bear, and will most certainly be used by some to justify shooting a bear.

It isn't open season. Most people don't mind the bears unless they get aggressive, and that's when the law comes into play.
