I still remember the DVD (I think) release of Final Destination 3 where they included slightly different scenes that changed how the movie played out depending on choices you made using the remote. I haven't seen any other movie do anything like that since then, except I guess Bandersnatch.
OH MY GOD, *_THIS_* THING!! I remember someone uploaded a video of that tape with English subtitles a few years ago. They even made a fan dub. Never thought I'd see Peebs talk about it.
If this thing was ever brought to the US, I feel like the kids who were big Mario fans would have absolutely LOVED this, especially during the hype for Mario World at that time.
Honestly, this is a pretty cool product. Children can use the toy phone to intereact with the anime video as if they are actually engaging in real interactions between themselves and the Mario characters. Shame this never released outside of Japan and only one educational anime was made that was Mario themed. I am surprised there was never an entire anime series of Super Mario though, North America just had the late 80's Mario T.V shows that were fever dreams.
Technically, the Terebiko actually did get released outside Japan, as the Mattel See n' Say Telephone. It just had completely different videos that it interacted with.
View-Master Interactive Vision is a very similar console which is pretty much the same thing but more advanced, and it was made in (and released exclusively in) the United States.
I had a toy similar to this as a kid in America called "VideoSmarts." It wasn't a phone and it certainly didn't have a Mario tape, but it was a very similar tech and yeah, the tape doesn't change depending on your choice, but the machine tells you if you're right or wrong
How do you do sponsorships better than literally any other youtuber on the platform??? I know that seems like a sorta goofy compliment for all the work put into the actual video and the obligation to do sponsorships regardless of sheer quality, but it’s just true. I actually want those glasses now.
It's surround sound audio, and you're selecting the channel its playing the effects for through the phone. (1- front left, 2-front right, etc.) so they can respond (on the phone) if you were right or wrong. if you were just using normal headphones he'd tell you you were correct in one ear and wrong in the other.
You're not going to change the video. Clicking a button makes a selection. It will mute the "you're wrong" or "you're right" part depending on if you click the wrong or right button.
This honestly brought back a long-held memory I forgot about until now... This kind of tech I remember using as a toddler back in the late 80's... There was a similar gimmick having various VHS tapes and a device to plug to your VCR that had four buttons to choose from whenever the video presented you with a multiple-choice question. I had to look it up to find out the name... Videosmarts. Though unlike this phone toy, the device let you know immediately with a green or red light and a buzzing sound if the answer you submitted was right or wrong. Surprisingly advanced stuff considering the primitive technology at the time, not like the pre-recorded VHS tape was going to personally tell you if you answered correctly.
This was genuinely one of the best videos ever 😂 I loved the old tech and the fact that it was Japanese made it look like how Mario and Luigi are supposed to look❤
Austin I don't know when I subscribed. Definitely been quite a few years. But you getting this Vinture sponsor is insane. Your moving up in the world, your content remains amazing, and you have the same loyal viewers because we love ya. We need a new top ten zelda games with botw and tears out. We need zelda month one more time. Just saying for a friend
The animation for this video is just adorable! The toy's video, not the video showing the toy. But I still had fun watching it, and you're still cool, Peebs✌
Does Peebs not know that the Yoshis in Super Mario World were trapped inside eggs by Bowser? They're not newborns, they're adults who got magically stuffed into hollow egg shells by the bad guy.
Hey guys, did you know that Mario's VA in the tape cheated on his wife with a female fan in her 30s (he was around 70 at the time), was abusive during the relationship, reportedly SAed her, impregnated her (after telling her he was infertile) and forced her to get an abortion?
View-Master Interactive Vision is a console which is pretty much the same thing but more advanced. Other than questions, the movies which also were on the vhs tape featured fully interactive video game sections with the console's graphics superimposed over the tape. If you complete a minigame, the end result is different based on your score, and only sound is different, this problem was solved by playing both video results at the same time on splitscreen, with the other one being hidden using the system's built-in graphics hardware that's also used for the minigames. The console itself was very obscure, and was lots of work to set up.
Peebs!!!!! Wow!!! Just had such a long day, and I thought to check if you had posted a video today,,, because it always seems to happen when I really need it!! No luck, but I check again a little while later and indeed!!! You posted!! Thank you for bringing laughter and smiles to me, and many others :))
Did you know? They made a localized version for the US called the See 'n Say Video Phone released by Mattel! Sadly Mario wasn't the part of the videos released in the states
Toddlers in Japan got to speak on their Terebikos with Mario, Goku, Sailor Moon, and Moomin... while toddlers in Japan spoke with a clown Muppet on their See N' Say telephones...
OH MAN! You really went the ebay route! But lemme you, I found the same thing. Although, the one I have on hand is the Terebikko Cordless version, but still works the same way. I'll tell a little story of how I got it: So, I found the Terebikko in Buyee, by a seller on Mercari. I got it used without the original packaging, but also came with two VHS tapes. Got it for around C$33 (rounding it out for simplicity), with shipping being around C$15. In total, it costed just around C$45 just to get it shipped to the warehouse. Then it was an extra C$20 to ship it to my place. Came in a few days time, and it worked beautifully. Suffice to say, I've been pretty satisfied ever since I have a piece of rare history, just as much as you are. If you're ever curious about how it works, just ask!

I really love old Nintendo toys like this. Thanks for watching!
Hi peebs!
Ok
Does it work for people who already needs glasses to like me?
Seems to be well worth the money, unlike this Nintendo toy
@@josephragsdill7248 hello!
Imagine this toy paired up with a DVD or BluRay player. That would truly make it choose your own adventure.
Add the functionality of a DVD/Blu-ray and able to go to specific scenes on the disc and it would be pretty cool now a days
100 years ago in school we kind of had that with a laserdisc.
I remember so many movie games on dvds that were like this, and a toy using that function would have been fun.
I would’ve loved that, whether as a kid or as an adult
I still remember the DVD (I think) release of Final Destination 3 where they included slightly different scenes that changed how the movie played out depending on choices you made using the remote. I haven't seen any other movie do anything like that since then, except I guess Bandersnatch.
A VHS interacting with a plug-in telephone? The VR glasses are cool, but we need this technology back!
The glasses are the sponsor
Only Peebs can spend money on two of the most important things in life and no one would mind: Mario and Arthur merchandise.
$450 to talk to Chris Pratt?!?
That's a steal!
AND Charlie Day
Oh man! Andrew Sabastion can give me calls!
No, Mario
This has definitely made my day a whole lot better, HEY PEEBS! 💗
Glad you liked it! Hello! :)
Ah yes, my favorite Mario objective:

Mario Normandy
@@Peebs Basically Super Mario Sunshine in a Nutshell

Remember when Mario assaulted the beach in The Silent Cartographer?
Hilarious, those subtitles at the end cracked me up!
Those glasses are literally the coolest thing i've ever seen. Well. Besides the Virtual Communication System.
It’s funny because I just saw a video making fun of those 😂
Have you bought them since you seriously think they're so great?
I love all the voices in this, especially Luigi’s! I adore 80s-90s style animation

I was hoping it would make that horrible *Breep* sound when he got it wrong. XD

This has become my new favorite bit. The end where he just stares defeated as the victory music plays in the background is fucking priceless.

It's... "JaqBurak!"

sponsor part takes (maybe a bit) too long, so here's where it ends off.

Was NOT expecting that ending... Very child-appropriate toy, Nintendo.
Yoshi spits the green shell...the red ones spit fire, yellow makes u stump, and blue is flying.

There was a Terebikko VHS tape that was made with characters from Dragon Ball Z in it called “Atsumare! Goku World.”

450 is a bargain to talk to Mario, he's a huge celebrity!
I think there is another thing you can do in order to call with Mario.
This Super Mario 64 phone, and this Mario Kart 64 phone.
Bro gimme that phone, i gotta call Yoshi
Great video Peebs! One piece of gaming tech from the past and one for the Future. 😎
The Mario animation is really cute and charming! Did Japan ever even get a Mario anime way back then?
Believe Mario had an OVA japanese animation from back then at least!
Didnt it get a series in smb3 and smw? It was animated and if it came from Japan then it's technically anime
Did you know? They made a localized version for the US called the See 'n Say Video Phone released by Mattel! Sadly Mario wasn't the part of the videos released in the states
Awesome vid!
The toy is actually called the terebikko and the mario tape is called Mario and Yoshi's Adventure Land
Two icons had a conversation together!
Toddlers in Japan got to speak on their Terebikos with Mario, Goku, Sailor Moon, and Moomin... while toddlers in Japan spoke with a clown Muppet on their See N' Say telephones...
Iggy sounds like he’s from jojo’s bizarre adventure
The end was hilarious!
