    If possible, a sample with sea as horizon would be nice test to see how good is stitching then. But I guess, I'll continue to process in CO, export and stitch in Affinity. Appreciate the video!

    thanks Andrea -at long last we have image stitching / merging :-)
    I really like C1 and processed a GFX100 file in it and LR just yesterday. I still find LR easier to use, but the images in C1 just have a better look in my opinion

    I've been playing with the HDR merge this morning and…it's really, really buggy I find.
    I imported 3 images shot at -1, 0 and +1 ev
    If I choose all 3, but say the +1 is the "primary" image in the set (I.e. the one with the more highlighted box around it), the resultant DNG file is even more over-exposed than the original +1 image. It's a little better but not much if I check the auto adjust option or use the middle or darker image as the primary one. But it still seems to produce a merged file that is way over-exposed.
    Am I doing something wrong here?

    • @AndreaLivieriPhoto
      @AndreaLivieriPhoto  2 года назад +1

      Yep, I got a similar result on my computer. The generated preview is a bit inconsistent throughout different sequences. The merged HDR file sometimes reacts to the tone adjustments in an odd way. Anyway, as I said in the video, this function needs to be slightly improved to get reliable and consistent results. Ciao :)

    Nice job. I have a question about HDR (since I'm new to it). I notice that a lot of people use a similar technique for bracketing. 3 images (-2, 0, +2). I dont keep the images after merging in LR and creating the DNG. Wouldn't it be better to bracket 9 images (I do this at 2/3 intervals)? I was wondering if there was any penalty to bracketing TOO many images.

    • @AndreaLivieriPhoto
      @AndreaLivieriPhoto  2 года назад +1

      Hi, thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the video. The number of bracketed shots is strictly related to the dynamic range of the scene. If shooting 3 exposure -2, 0, +2 stops covers the DR of the scene, there is no point to capture six more exposure you’ll throw away straight after the import stage. Moreover, merging too many “not needed” exposures, can compromise the “quality” of the resulting DNG image. Ciao :)

  • @nnix
    @nnix 2 года назад +1

    Great video, thanks. Although I don't suspect the film simulations will ever be applicable after the fact to a DNG. It'll have to be done beforehand.

    • @AndreaLivieriPhoto
      @AndreaLivieriPhoto  2 года назад

      Hi nnix, glad you enjoyed the video, thanks! About the film simulations on the merged DNG file, I think it's something that is going to be solved with one of the next updates. It's not a big deal as the first release, but I'm pretty sure CO will fix it. Ciao :)

    Thank you Andrea for a great comparison! I’m a long-time C1 user and I have noticed this type of discoloration when I import DNG files into C1 long before this new version came out. Also, the huge difference in file sizes for DNG is puzzling too, isn’t it? To be honest, when I generate DNG exports from both DXO PhotoLab and Topaz Sharpen Ai I get about the same huge file size too. So to me it seems that Adobe got some “secret” ways of handling the DNG format that no other developer got access to? What do you think?
    Thanks for a great video! ☃️❄️🎅🏻

    • @AndreaLivieriPhoto
      @AndreaLivieriPhoto  2 года назад

      Hi, thanks so much for the comment and I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! It's a good point, the proprietary DNG format might have a "secret ingredient" that could limit the file compression. Who knows :) Anyway, I'm pretty sure they're working hard on optimizing all these stuff. This is the first entry for C1 into the panorama & hdr world, so I think they are trying to figure out the right path to build something great as they've already done with many other features in the past. Ciao e buone feste anche te :) Ciao

      @@AndreaLivieriPhoto Yes, I remember the criticism they received for their first version of Dehaze tool. A few versions later and the Dehaze tool have become a very useful and reliable tool! So far I have had no issues with the new panorama function (except for the DNG issue) but my first tries with the HDR merge have produced a mixed bag of results, unfortunately. It regularly produces some jagged artifacts around highlights and splotches of high noise levels in portions of the image. I’m sure they will iron that out eventually too?

    • @AndreaLivieriPhoto
      @AndreaLivieriPhoto  2 года назад

      That's true. I wasn't impressed with the dehaze results on their first release, but I rapidly started appreciate it for it's unique features. You know, some stuff need time to perfect. I’m pretty confident everything is going to be fine soon.
