    It’s insane how he remembers every tree and the history of the tree like if they were all his children. He knows when they were started or last repotted and where he was in his own life. Insane.

    Tell your new apprentice that she's never going to be a bonsai gardener by randomly snipping away at the branches with one hand while the other one is in her pocket doing nothing. ADVICE: One hand cutting the other hand steadying the branch.

    • @Blaydrnnnr
      @Blaydrnnnr 3 года назад +2

      Not sure of his schedule, but I use granule fertilizer, ( high nitrogen ) that is placed in the soil, and it feeds every time I water. I change the granules ( add new granules ) about every 3 months, through the early spring to the late fall. I still water the winter, but very rarely, depending on how the weather is here. When I do water in the winter, I still use a fertilizer, but its less nitrogen. ( 7-9-5 ) Some say its pointless to fertilize in the winter, but I have had great results in my schedule the past few years.

    Mr. Chan and community, sorry this comment isn't about the video but I could use some help I.D.ing a tree. I went to an exhibition a few weeks back. A lady was doing a demonstration on a tree and let the audience take the trimmings home for cuttings. The cuttings are now taking root and I can't remember what it is! It's a tropical tree with purple/lavender flowers, has thorns, has small foliage, she said it was popular in Indonesia for bonsai material, and I believe it started with a D. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hello Peter, Let me congratulate you on your lovely bonsais. Lovely little adorable 'darlings'.. You keep mentioning 1997. That was the year I visited your nursery, in Linfield, Surrey. You were so kind to me, even more so when I told you that I came, all the way from little Malta. However don't recognise any of the ones you show, here. Like you said ''Trees are like people''. They do change...for the better in your expert , masterly bonsai knowledge. In 2005, you visited us as guest of our club....I liked each and every tree shown, but the video, did make me sad, on remembering,''The memory of what has been...and never more will be'' . .

    Hi Peter, big fan here. I was wondering if at some point in the future you could do a video on how to improve small bonsai. Primarily, your bog standard garden centre small bonsai, like a small chinese elm or a dawn redwood. I was gifted them last summer and they're growing like crazy in this nice weather and want to "improve" them rather than just trimming the long shoots into a messy ball shape.

    • @r1n8k
      @r1n8k 3 года назад

      Just get started with it. Do some research into good starter trees for the sort of environment you will be keeping them in. Then buy some young plants for cheeper prices and just get going. If you're able to buy of Peters websites you can buy a starter kit from him for a reasonable price. I've got 3 trees on the go. My 1st tree perchanced went through some trials after it got here but I did my research and found something suitable to me, bought some good books for guidance and found articles online and it's been doing well for over 2 years now.
      One really good thing about Peters channel is how if you have a particular type of tree you want to learn about, you can just search his channel and there will likely be a video where he goes over the basic care and styles of the tree.
      Good luck!

      Picasso’s first painting wasn’t his best. Just have a go and enjoy the process. Sometimes a great tree develops from something unexpected. Or could always start with a base by buying bonsai material.

    • @andreasweber1533

      You won't get good from reading and watching without touching a tree. If you're not happy with you first attempts, learn from them (what did go wrong, what should I have done differently). Don't buy anything labeled bonsai and don't practice on expensive/unique material, of course. You can start very cheap, and grow with your trees.
