As a 14 year old, back in the 50s, my mother scrimped and saved to buy me the best birthday present ever, a 222k. I still have it due to a derisory trade in offer. Recently brought it down from the attic. Though well used, both machine and box in top condition. That machine, along with my trunk of possessions, had moved around London to different flats I shared with other girls, via London Taxi cabs which had an open luggage bay next to the driver. Just had the foot control rewired to modern safety standards and the tubular bed is much easier to use than my new machine. Glad it tagged along with me now for various house moves. I didn’t expect it to become a valued treasure.

My white featherweight has the same soft sided blue Canadian case. I have about 14 Featherweights. They are so charming.

Oh I just love your feather weight Singer. I was born in 1951 lol. I never knew about the feather weight machines. It would be good to watch you use it. I learnt on a Singer treadle of my Granma's and when she passed they gave it to me. More recently I bought a Singer 201K however, it was too heavy for me to pick up and I had to wait for family to lift it for me. When I was 16 My dad bought me a Jones sewing machine. One of my nieces has that machine now. xx

I LOVE the vintage machines! Don’t really call myself a “collector”, it I definitely COLLECT multiple machines, lol. I have a Singer 201, 15-91, 1920’s 66 and 99, a Montgomery Ward 15 Clone made in Japan, and just purchased a 1951 Centennial 221 ….can’t wait until it arrives! Love your machines…nice video and beautiful featherweights!

I’ve been sewing on a Singer Featherweight since age 12. My machine went to college with me. I’ve never been tempted to upgrade to any other machine.

Wow your machines are gorgeous! The white one is so so pretty 😍 I feel super lucky to have a black Featherweight 221 manufactured in March 1953. Found it through an ad and it’s my favourite machine! I now sew all my wovens on it, it’s just the best for lightweight fabrics! When I first saw it, I was stunned at how small it is 😄 Would love to get my hands on the white one one day! Can’t decide which one I like more - the white one is gorgeous, but I love the silver plate and all the decals on the black one 😍❤️

Yours sounds like such a treasure! There isn't a modern machine that makes perfect stitches like the 221. I love the silver plate too...I think there are some that are more ornate, too. I like the art deco of the lines on mine. They're really special machines and it's so fun to chat about them 💜

Beautiful. You have two lovely featherweights! Please, can you tell me if it's difficult to get the white one in its case, with the cord permanently attached? And thanks for sharing!

It's a bit tricky to get the white Featherweight into its case with the cord permanently attached, but it's doable with some patience. You might need to carefully arrange the cord to fit everything snugly. Thanks for watching and for your kind words!

I have searched for one. I'm willing to buy one even if it's not working to fix it up. But haven't been able. Some are very expensive. Will continue to search for one and good price.
